‘WOLVERINES!’: See the Trailer for the New ‘Red Dawn’ Remake

1984′s “Red Dawn” might be the single most anti-communist movie ever made, and not just relative to Hollywood’s usual material. The original version of the film practically oozes raw individualism and American resourcefulness, so much so that even the trailer opens with a paean to American exceptionalism: “No Foreign Army Has Ever Occupied American Soil.”

And now, perhaps hoping to capitalize on the dual waves of 80′s nostalgia and latent libertarianism sweeping the culture, Hollywood has apparently decided to remake the film, this time not about a Soviet invasion of America, but about…a North Korean invasion of America. Interesting choice of country, and it might explain why a group of teenagers is capable of winning. Watch the trailer for this new imagining of the film below:

When they were originally started making the movie several years ago, it was the Chinese, not the North Koreans that were attacking America. However, in a sad bowing to political pressure, they remade the movie so that it would be the North Koreans, not the Chinese attacking America. With that in mind, watch the movie with that premise and then it won’t be so laughable. That is how the director originally had it planned.

In the original Red Dawn, only China and Great Britain came on the side of the United States, the rest of Europe didn’t want anything to do with the War.

The invaders of the United States were Soviet Union, Cuba, Nicaragua and Communist Mexico…….

I hope all of you who are parents of military, police, and other government agency employees, are proud that your sons, and daughters will be the ones to crush the greatest nation that ever existed. Oh, and all you bad a$$es that say that they will have to pry your guns from your cold dead hands. They won‘t even wait until they’re cold. Exactly. Starving people who can’t even successfully launch a rocket. It’s about as stupid as the idea of Germany defending itself from the Polish horseback brigade in 1939. Or the US defending itself from Spain after they “blew up” a US battleship in 1898. Actually, it totally seems plausible from that perspective.

According to global firepower (.com), North Korea has a little under 10.5 million people “fit for service.” How many states could that size force occupy (and secure well enough to defend) in reality? Especially considering that we have a force of a little over 120 million “fit for service.”

“You cannot invade the mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind each blade of grass.” – Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto

A more plausible plot would be North Korea sending in terror cells like in Invasion USA (Chuck Norris). And frankly, I‘m surprised Hollywood hasn’t remade that movie yet. I should check IMDB. It could be in the works.

Sharia Law will be the sole Law in the land. With the Islamic government all people must convert to Islam or die. First the Jew who for some unknown reason helped in our down fall by supporting NoBama. then the Christians. I for one pray that I will remain true to my Yaweh and walk into the camp with head held high. I expect when they stand me against the wall I will see you. The original was a terrific film, though you had to ignore the highly unlikely scenario of the Russians getting the best of us back then. Most folks here say it’s laughable that the NKs could attack us here. Perhaps they weren’t listening during the trailer when it was said that “new technology” was used to cripple the US defense network. Actually, an EMP attack could do just that if you believe the news reports. I personally think that it would take MANY EMP explosions to cripple us, and those are quite difficult to pull off, as they require exact energy, altitude, and other conditions to be effective. But if it COULD be done, hell, almost anyone could walk in and take us … except for one thing: that gun hiding behind every blade of grass.

RedDawn2012, I wouldn’t say the original scenario was so implausible for 1984. Our military was still recovering from the aftermath of the Vietnam War and the Carter years. My guess on the “new weapon” is that it’s some sort of cyberweapon. That would be even more effective than an EMP generator, since a lot of our equipment is hardened against EMP. NK’s biggest challenge…and China’s for that matter…would be force projection and logistical support for an invasion of the US. A more probable COA for them would be an attack on regional interests: South Korea, Taiwan, possibly Japan.

That being said, I will definitely be seeing this, as it looks like it will be a good movie, hopefully reinforcing traditional American values of freedom and self-reliance like the original movie did. Besides, how can we lose in this one…we‘ve got freakin’ Thor on our side!

Nothing like PC Bolshevism running Hollywood. North Korea invading? Please. Make it real and show China who has the manpower and technological power to pull it off. One thing that’s accurate, you could have a blackout and everybody would be clueless about what’s going on, even as bombers are flying over.

Regarding the original Red Dawn trailer. I see a modern version being just like the original, but instead of the good guys being the “wolverines” they are now “right wing extremist….and most likely racists.” They are the bad guys and the Soviets of the original movie are now Homeland Security and they are the ones invading their own country, rounding up people, especially those darn Tea Party terrorists. In the modern version Homeland Security is attacking Americans (just like what we accuse Syria of doing) executing people who aren’t down with living in a communistic police state.

My how things have changed in the last 25 years……

So they inadvertently did something right. They cast a Korean actor as the Commie antagonist.
I was going to criticize him for having an “American” walk. But seeing as how he IS American-born and a martial arts expert, it probably can’t be helped.

Just a side-note, wondering out-loud, he is first-generation of Korean immigrants. These Koreans are among the most industrious, patriotic folks around. But according to imdb.com, Will Yun Lee won a martial arts scholarship and majored in Political Science and minored in Ethnic Studies at UC Berkeley.

I wouldn’t discount the North Koreans…I’ve made an observation that made me think about the possibility of an foreign invasion. First, we have thousands of Koreans, Chinese, Latinos, Arabs living in our soil; and not just that, I’ve noticed that there are large populations near our military bases and military towns. Now I am not Xenophobic, but I have studied the history of war, and many nations where lured into a false sense of security and complacency, that when the call to strike occurred those nations where unprepared and sleeping during the attack from those that moved to that country. this movie has it somewhat right, the Chinese already have our EMP technology and many other previously secret tech due to our open trade agreements, we’re giving them the keys; but they also have acquired large land developments and properties. they have influenced our local and federal government to move our business to their lands and to allow migrants (legal or not) into our cities. no one has bothered to do their due diligence and check to see if these migrants are not Spies or sleeper agents. Now our government is looking for any excuse to take our guns away that would enable us to fight back. the North Koreans are crazy enough to start the invasion of Canada/United States.

While they’re at it, they should change the name from “Red Dawn” to “The Mouse that Roared, Part Deux” If you haven’t seen the original “The Mouse That Roared” you should. It’s VERY funny and about as plausible as the North Koreans invading the US. They wouldn’t get past the California border. They would feel so at home in Kalifornia and the residents of Arizona and Nevada would be so hostile, that they would simply say screw leaving Kalifornia.

Today’s average Libertarian are dogmatic isolationists The Libertarian (especially the Rothbardian Libertarian) has a very limited world-view and a scenerio such as this (a foreign invader) would probably be a reality at some point in time.

If I’m not mistaken… I believe it was Rothbard who stated during the Cold War that “if we lost the rest of the world and were invaded by the Soviets… we could take to the hills and launch a guerilla war. How Red Dawn of Rothbard eh? It’s the thinking of men like Rothbard (who thought entering WWII was a tragedy) that a scenerio of foreign enemy (be it another country or an ideology) invading our soil could become a reality.

Here’s news flash communists otherwise known as cultural Marxists/Progressives have not only invaded America they are about to topple it-unless the American man finds his Bible, His Spine and Testicles and Women return to their God given feminine purpose rather than wanting to be men with friendly benefits available to either sex . If this nation does not return to God and its authentic Constitutional framework- we are finished and that is a irrefutable fact based all known statistics. American cannot sustain the level of moral decay, sexual perversion, and political corruption and expect to last- history confirms this truth.WAKE UP

Well said. At least on this site you won‘t have too many Libertinians jumping on you for all that ’god nonsense’. I am chagrined over the godless Right segment of our compatriots that just will not acknowledge where the values they claim to hold dear originate. Their supposed values are no more than whisps of smoke to be scattered by the winds of time and change.

I remember seeing the original Red Dawn when it opened in 1984 with a bunch of friends. And we all loved watching American Kids about are age, kicking the crap out of the Soviet’s. The Movie at the time, was not PC.

And PC of today concerns me about this remake of Red Dawn. And that is….How is Hollywood of today going to re-wright the script of Red Dawn, and make it America’s fault……

Bryan, Yeah I remember just getting to Ft Drum after my first tour in Germany and catching the movie at the post theater. I was probably 31 or about to turn 31 then and it made quite an impact on me too. Growing up in the south for the most part, I figured they were better off hitting that far north. I grew up with a sporterized ‘03 along with a variety of other rifles, shotguns and pistols. I was on my second AR15 when the movie came out. Just glad that I am no longer in NY State with my weapons collection. Didn’t bother to even try to move any of my pistols there though.

No, that is not how they plan to attack us. They simply have to drop 3-5 EMP nukes a few miles over the US evenly spaced apart which would destroy anything that uses curcuits/ wiring which they could then take us at their leisure. Of course that is not leaving out all the damage we will do to ourselves from people/groups inside the US taking advantage of the situation as well as countries around the world also sending in people or troops to get what they can or do what damage they could get away with before China got around to placing troops down on our soil to finish us of. It wont be pretty.

While our military is generally protected from EMP bursts, with no infrastructure to keep them going, they can only do so much…and the fact our forces are spread out around the globe, they will be basically fighting to stay alive themselves. Let alone make it back to help us out.

Love the old movie and will watch this one. North Korea is a joke. It originally was China I believe but I am sure the producers owed them money.

As far as the realism, I dont see a foreign country doing this, I think it will be the TSA, local police, and DHS cracking our skulls. Oh and a group of teenagers will be armed with hunting rifles while the police state will use drones and APC on them and slaughter them.

Yeah, I loved the original, and obviously this remake looks to be entertaining. But I’m quite certain a more realistic approach would be a sitting U.S. President that decides he wants to become a dictator and starts by attempting to disarm the populace, which in turn causes a revolt. There’s no way a foreign power, be it Russia, N. Korea, or whoever, would ever be able to realistically invade and maintain a foothold in a country with an armed citizenry.

Both the East Coast and west coast are quite a bit less armed than the center of the nation. Those states would fall easily to a determined enemy country. New york, California are already in enemy hands.

Back in my youth, thirty-some odd years ago, I worked for the Forest Service on on a slash crew in Northern California. These are the guys who go out on a daily basis and build firebreaks around clear-cut blocks on sometimes near-vertical ground and when needed are a ready-made hot-shot crew available to deploy on forest fires. A month of that kind of work will toughen you up pretty quickly. If the need ever arose there is a whole guerrilla army of forestry workers, firefighters, loggers and hunters who could disappear into mountains and make life miserable for an foreign invader.
But Mr. July is paying attention: “a more realistic approach would be a sitting U.S. President that decides he wants to become a dictator and starts by attempting to disarm the populace, which in turn causes a revolt.”
Wonder who he has in mind? Let-me-think.

The display of N Korean airpower / airdrop to our soil would require signifant suspension of disbelief.

N Korea has a national goal of conquering S Korea before reaching anywhere else.
Invading the US is way, way down the road for those guys.

Most of the N K soldiers also appear nearly normal sized, when we know most of the population there is midgets from malnutrition.

Cuba (proximity remember the original RD ?) and Venuzeula (Fuel) are more credible invasion threats.
