Woman Goes on Racist Rant, Allegedly Hits Postman Over Mail Delivery

A woman’s racist, angry rant directed at a postal worker in Hingham, Mass. was caught on video. The twist? A man claiming to be the mailman says he was fired over it.

Here’s how Gawker sets up the clip:

The argument in the video is sparked by a certified letter that the mail carrier delivers. The woman has signed for it, but decides she doesn‘t want it because it’s addressed to her husband, not her. But the mail guy won’t take it back. Things go sour when she calls him a “Fu***** [n*****] thief.” She quickly qualifies: “I‘m not prejudiced but right now I’m getting real pissed off.” Then everything she says afterward is so racist it would make George Wallace blush. Finally she slaps him. Just your normal day on the mail route. Except really, really racist.

The woman goes on to shout “you killed Martin Luther King; you n****** turn on each other!”

The incident, posted on YouTube in two parts, includes a description from the poster, who insinuates he is the mailman and that he was punished for the incident:

This woman is outrageous — I am still waiting for US Postal Inspection Service to investigate this matter. it has been a year since postmaster fired me for this racist lady, and Hingham court let her go free, no trial.

This will be hard to watch for some. It includes graphic, offensive language. Needless to say, CONTENT WARNING:

On the postal carrier blog PostalReporter News blog, commenters have weighed in. One named “simple simonds,” who says he is a mail carrier himself, had this to say (typos and misspellings his):

what an idot, she did not open the letter, take it back, scan refused, what a dumb a**
this carrier upset the customer by not providing customer service. As a carrier myself this happens many times, this is what gives the Post Office a bad name, he asked to be called names, he should be fired for acting like and idiot.

To which “too simple” responds: “Ah, yes, being fired for acting like “and idiot”. Tou and ché, genious.”

Another named “also a postal worker” adds that the woman had another option:

The carrier did not have to take this back. She signed for it and it is hers. If she doesnt want it, she can write refused on it and drop it back in the mail. End of discussion.

And “samiam” believes that while the postal worker did not deserve the rant, he is uninformed (typos his):

There’s no reason that he shouldn’t have taken the letter back. She can still refuse it after she signed for it. Dropping in a collection box or handing it back to a carrier are basically the same thing. Actually, if something is refused it’s better to just turn it back over to your carrier rather than dumping it in a collection box. I can’t believe how uninformed and untrained some of our postal workers are. With that said, he should have calied 911 long before she slapped him. I don’t see how he got fired for this, but it should have never got to this point in the first place. Take it back and say, “have a nice day lady”. What the hell difference does it make to him?

    Given where she lives and her behavior, she IS a registered Democrat. Tea Party peeps ( or should say typical, tax paying, hard working Americans) don’t behave that way. The only people I’ve ever seen act like that are liberals.

    this lady is a NUT job.. she and her husband could have been separated divorced or her husband told her not to sign for ANYTHING of his or he’d kick her butt.. HOWEVER.. it does NOT give her the right to verbally and physically abuse the mail carrier..People like here which I will admit are far and few between but one a lifetime is enough are the reason people don’t like jobs that deal with the public..

    “This will be hard to watch for some” It was hard to watch; for the fact I cannot believe that any sane person would behave and talk to another person that way. Really?? She gets like that over a freakin’ letter??!! But then again….I can believe it – after working in retail for years and dealing with the public….sometimes they do seem to escape the therapy session and decide to go shopping (in this case she seemed to have skipped her meds and greet the postman).

    Isn’t a postal worker a Federal employee, if so then it should be against the law to hit him, this lady is just plain nuts, someone needs to commit her somewhere for her anger issues, but on the other hand he should have just drove away and left her standing there looking like the idiot she was, then he should have called his supervisor and told his story.

    @John – the reason that race always enters into conflict is because it is the quickest, most easily identifyable difference between two opponents. It’s “low fruit” that is quickly picked in any fight to gain whatever advantage the person thinks they might get. Unfortunately, many times it works…

    Hold it, hold it-this happened in Massachusetts- I thought only southern white people and the co conspiring tea partiers were racists, not caring, loving socialist Witchburners! Clearly, she was actually FIGHTING racism, like the guy who shot up the beer distributor..and the people who burned the busses in Boston back in the 70s. Note the alliteration. .

    This just really makes me sad! I don’t understand how anyone can think that they are better than anyone else simply because of skin color! Truly, this brough tears of shame to my eyes for this woman, and I can’t imagine how the postal worker must have felt…. This would have penetrated even the thickest of skins. I am so sorry he had to endure this.

    This is EXACTLY the type of beautiful person from Hingham, MA. They are almost ALL democRATS! See, liberals are a special bunch they love to point the finger at everyone else as being racists but when you go into their little enclave in whitey suburbia their true colors come out. She probably voted for everyone that had a D next to their name on the ballot. Notice, her own words, she is not racist. She called the mailman a n***** because he was acting like one!       What’s wrong with this picture? The mailman just happens to be carrying a camera, the woman just happens to fly into a rant that includes, “you killed MLK, you …..turn on each other.” Does that really sound like anything a racist rant would include…..that sounds like a script with an agenda to me. The post office and the union would not be letting this go, is there anyone that doubts that? Do you think we wouldn’t have seen this before the election if it existed? The other postal workers are asking why not just take the letter or tell her to write refused and put it back in the mail? What’s wrong with this picture?

      There are laws against assault … he should not have been the one who got in trouble for this .. he was just doing his job and had more patience than most people would have. This guy should not have been fired .. he should be commended .. and this woman should be in JAIL. Not for her words that were disgusting but for ASSAULT!

    My question is why does race always have to enter into these types (or any type) of conflicts? Why couldn’t she just be mad at him as her postal carrier and not as her black postal carrier? We are never going to get to a place where we all really do see each others only as Americans. Sorry, but it just won’t happen.

      Probably because it is MA, liberal and they just profess to be unbiased. Perhaps the letter was from her husband’s mistress, Publisher’s Clearing House, the mortgage company; perhaps she woke up on the wrong side of the bed, PMS, whatever her reason – she had no right (altho apparently she thought she did) to accost the mail carrier. The median income in Hingham MA in 2008 was 114K so that also may tell us something. Maybe he should have taken the letter back but losing your job over the incident seems a bit harsh (course don’t know his past incidents). Where is the union for unfair firing? Union members, see they will throw you under the bus, get out while you can. Come to the side of light and right!

      Stuff like this also happens here in AZ, and more often than I care to admit. Some of the things our postal workers have had to deal with are something else, some people see them as nothing more than trouble – the government personified. I have had very few problems with them, and many are as hard working at their jobs as any other employees. You have to be dedicated to make foot delivery here in the summertime of Az, where in the shade 110+ is not uncommon just after sunrise.

      And in the monsoon season, there is no such thing as a “Dry Heat” just the length of time it takes for you to cook. Imagine a Florida summer with twice the heat and the same humidity levels, that is AZ in the summer.

      Looking at her, I’d say PMS was long gone around the corner. I’d hate to a child of hers, first the angry harping, then the intelleco- lecturing. Feh.
      The way she yells, with her shoulders pulled down, head jutting out, doesn’t she look like a rooster crowing? Only small children in playgrounds should take the Prickle Pants pose while arguing.
      Why in heavens name would her mother’s choice of profession enter into this at all? Strange dubious statistics to cover her use of language.
      Most likely, they were angry at the Rotary Club for some silly reason, or, they didn’t pay their back dues. Maybe they were being reprimanded or kicked out for being such asses in the first place.

    This lady should not have slapped a Postal Carrier period; where I live at one person was assaulted by a postal carrier and his relative due to the relative not being allowed by the resident into our apartments. No one knew the man, and our leases are very specific about not letting anyone who is not known into the complex. Nothing was done in the matter, and the exact message given to the resident by the Post Master General is this “The matter will be dropped, and absolutely nothing is to be done to him about it.”

    In this case the Postal Worker and his relative who did the accosting were african american and the resident white; and I was a witness to the matter occuring. Anyone doubting it could have been a mistake consider how much force it takes to use both arms to slam someone into a wall while they are shouted at with all manner of foul and abusive languages.

      I drove a Taxi Cab for years. There are racist of all kinds. The most racist whites are Democrats. Most are only nice to Black people when they are face to face. As soon as the room is clear with just whites they sound like slave owners. I don’t hear this from Conservative. Not saying it doesn’t happen, just many, many more Democrats. Mostly Men but plenty of Women too. The most racist Black are young Female, 14 to 22. Not all but 80% Hate Whitie. This is just my opinion but it’s from years of listening. I try to like everyone for what they are. I’m not perfect, but I try hard to be nice to everyone all the time.

      As a Conservative I can say with pride that I cannot remember the last time I met a racist Conservative. Its a natural fit because a real Conservative lives by Dr. Kings quote about judging a person by their character, not their color.

      This woman was way off-base and rude. From what I have read here it would have been a simple matter to give back the card and take the letter. Still, none of his actions warranted her moronic pissy hissy-fit.

      Now as for liberal racism, oh yeah, but not in the hate fueled way of the right. Though they never admit it, why does the left have to have a racial or ethnic identifier on the front of every non-white person’s name? Its always *-American this or that; what happened to just American?

      I agree 100%! I have friends on both extremes of the political spectrum. Yes, racists on both sides, but my oober lefty friends are much worse! They just look around more before they drop the n-word and talk about other races. I only have ONE conservative friend that I feel is racist, but he hates everybody.

      this woman is completely whack! The only question I have…did she get instigated or was this a set up prior to her rant? It‘s seems the video was set up and she did not seem to know video was going so postman was either expecting a confrontation or something weird was going on here becasue it’s not terribly easy to roll video from a phone during a conversation w/o her knowing it…my postal guy is so lazy everytime I get a certified letter he just puts a the sheet in the box w/o coming to the door and i have to go up to the post office to waste an hour of my day I can never get back……

      on top of that, a rotary club letter??? I mean I could understand refusing an IRS Certified letter but refuse a rotary club…strange indeed

      Once it is signed for it can not be taken back. What she signed was delivery verification card that goes back to the sended to prove delivery. She could have refused deliver before signing but not after. People pay extra for that delivery conformation. There is no way to undo the signature and the card can nor be redone as they are numbered and the sender has receipt showing he paid for that numbered card. If it said restricted deliver then the postman made a mistake.The semder pays extra for restricted delivery. Before you go accusing the post man maybe you should walk a mile in his shoes.

      She signed for it. If she didn’t want to be responsible for it she should never have signed it. She could hve given it back, but the card that she signed can not be given back it is the responsibility of the mail carrier and he could have gotten in a lot more trouble for returning it to her. It doesn’t matter if he is in the wrong, she has no reason to talk the way she did to him. He should have had her arrested for assult on a Federal Employee.

      I am a mail carrier as well and think that he probably should have called his supervisor as soon as things startet to get heated. If i were him i would have told her she needed to take it to the post office and left. I have dealt with people like this in the past and left the situation and called my spervisor. you are always better off to leave and notifie the higher up’s before things get out of hand. Once she slapped him he should have called 911 while leaving the situation and waiting further down the block for police and postal authorities to arrive. he seemed overly polite given the circumstances and i can’t see how he deserves any diciplen from this incident.
