Police say a North Carolina woman spent more than an hour reading the Bible to her attacker — after he slashed her throat with a knife.
Lindsay Wood and her 15-year-old son had just returned home from church Wednesday night. Wood asked her son to collect the trash can from the curb, and while he was doing so a man he didn’t know rushed past him, the Shelby Star reported. The man and Wood spoke briefly. Then, he pulled out a knife and sliced the right side of her neck.
After the attack, Wood started talking to the man while her son stayed hidden outside. She tried to reason with him, offering him her car and money. When he didn’t take either, she began reading Bible scriptures.
“She even invited him to her church,” Shelby Police Capt. Rick Stafford told the Star. “He kept saying he was sorry, and then walked away.”
Before he left, the man turned on an outside faucet and carved a six-point star into Wood’s car, Charlotte NBC affiliate WCNC-TV reported.
Wood is in stable condition, though she is unable to speak following surgery. She required 20 to 25 stitches to close the wound.
According to WCNC, police do not believe Wood and her attacker knew each other, and have stepped up patrols in the neighborhood.
“We want him off the street,” Stafford said.
Wood’s neighbor, Faye Cooke, described Wood and her son as “good Christian folk who keep to themselves.”
“I have no idea why something like this would happen to her,” Cooke told the Star. “There’s just no reason.”

Posted on February 5, 2012 at 10:20amI smell the stink of the politically correct here. No description of the suspect, tuning on the water, carving a six pointed star and no details describing why the son did nothing. I suspect a certain kind of religious fanatic or recent convert, and maybe he held her hostage for that time making it impossible for the son to do anything. Just speculating but if you are a recent convert your faith may not be fully ingrained leaving you open to doubts. That may explain his hesitation and eventual guilty conscience. Trying to blame Jews maybe? I have no clue why he would turn on the faucet. There are too many questions that the victims can answer that haven’t been asked or just not printed, to protect the easily offended offenders. It all stinks.

Posted on February 5, 2012 at 10:15amI just learned something very interesting after reading this story. The six pointed star was used in the old testament. God rebuked his people for the use of this star( the seal of solomon). It was used in the worship of ba’al. That tends to make it more understandable why those who are against the Jews have forced them to where it at different times in history. GOD commanded them not to. It’s not a good symbol for them. Hence Hitler choosing it for the Jews in ww2. It is often times consider the 666 as well, do to its symbolism. Now I am left to ask why has Israel adapted this symbol to represent their country. Why do the Mormons use it as well? Now I’m confused. This man left it on her car? I will be steering clear of this symbol as God commanded in the old testament.

Posted on February 5, 2012 at 11:01amThere are two versions of the six point star. One has the three sides of both triangles overlapping symbolizing the unity of man with God while the other has the three sides of each on an EVEN plane symbolizing man and God as equal. The second version is the sign of Satan with the missing circle, and the number 666 represented by all of the lines meeting on the same plane.
I hope I explained this right as I am doing it from memory … feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

Posted on February 5, 2012 at 11:09amThe six pointed star is 2 triangles
The downward triangle is Animal Man, flesh, blood, need for food, sex, base instincts to act like an animal. (perhaps the worship of ba’al.
The upward triangle is Divine Godly Man, spirit, children of the lord, above the animals, made in God’s image to rule this kingdom.
The other is 6 points which are the cardinal directions and up and down which is God’s dominion. Or alternately, being pulled in all directions, yet staying in the center.
There is a possibility that the Hebrews stole it from Ba’al worshippers, BUT……the Star of David was from king David, who was BEFORE conquest by Babylon.

I would read all scripture petaining to the following in complete chapter to get full context. I have not myself yet today followed it up in entirety as I am preparing for a birthday party this evening.
The first mention of the six-pointed star in Israelite literature was in Amos 5:6, when YAWEH angrily tells His people that ” I hate and despise your feast days…. You shall take up Siccuth, your king and Chiun your images, the star of your God….” Siccuth (Sakkuth) and Chiun (Kaiwan) means “star” and refers to Saturn as a star, and was objects of idolatrous worship, as they were considered to be Assyrian gods. The mixed multitude that went out of Egypt with the children of Israel took the star with them. Like the obelisk, the six-pointed star was an Egyptian idol used in idolatrous worship. In 922 B.C. when Solomon married the daughter of Pharoah, he became involved in Egyptian idol worship and went into magic, and witchcraft. Solomon built an altar to Ashtoreth and Moloch, and the six-pointed star, the chief symbol of human sacrifices in magic and witchcraft circles, came to be called the Seal of Solomon.Solomon did not heed the subsequent warnings from God to cease from these abominable practices, even after God threatened to rend the Kingdom of Israel from his son’s hand. And indeed, the split occurred after Solomon’s death. Solomon’s idolatry caused the Kingdom of Israel to be split in tw

Report Post »As a side note, I found it interesting that earlier in chapter 5, Amos refers to God as “He who made the Pleiades and Orion.” It’s a good point to ponder in any case, but it makes sense and adds another shade of dimension when you know that the context was a rebuke for worshiping the stars…

You are jumping to many conclusions. Moloch is the false idol that the Jews built for themselves while Moses was on the mount. This is not the same entity nor thing as Ba’al, which is a “demon”. Moloch is a man made god in the form of a bull. This is why medieval demonology treated the name as the name of Lucifer (the Morning Star – Babylonian title of a prince).
Many gods and demons are referenced in the bible, but should not be confused. And do not confuse the works of John Milton (Paradise Lost) as actual representation of the fall of Satan. Satan, Moloch, Lucifer are all three things representing one… Man placing himself above God. Fabricating a God, a religion a cause.
Moloch is the one that is spoken of regarding Gehenna (the outskirts of Jerusalem) were children were sacrificed. This is the burning place that came into Christianity to be know has “Hell”. However, this is still different than Ba’al.
Please read:
http://www.jewishencyclopedia.com/articles/2236-ba-al-and-ba-al-worship
Pay attention to section Rites and Accompaniments. Note the differences in worship, thus two separate beings. You may be close with the Star of David/Seal of Solomon. But it would seem what Amos was really saying is that man made it to protect themselves from their own deeds. He was warning them to repent.

You may want to read more on the subject before making such statements that demand you are 100% correct. I see some wisdom in your thoughts and strong connections, but you are taking everything literal with limited information. There is much more than what is written in the bible. You really need to look at the history of the area. Not to mention that Judaism is deeply rooted in older religions that Egypt. Look to Sumerian & Babylonian history, religious text and religions (as that is where the Jews came from). You will note the Sumerian Kings eerily is similar to the descendants from Adam on down (especially the ages they lived).
Just like Gilgamesh is the story of Noah.

DING, DING, DING! YOU HAD THE CORRECT ANSWER from all the comments above you.
All that speculation as to why and who and where and whatever is just nonsense. Every single
one of us has a PURPOSE here on earth. If you do not know that purpose, you are either lost or just starting out and need direction from a Pastor or clergyman.
If you are a Christian, YOU KNOW because you are directed by the Holy Spirit and not of yourself.
So, what this woman did WAS WHAT JESUS WOULD HAVE DONE. There is nothing more to be said after that. THAT WOMAN FORGAVE THAT MAN ON THE SPOT and therefore, the Holy Spirit will follow that man around UNTIL he either caves in to the voice of God or rejects it totally. WE ARE HERE ON THIS EARTH TO SERVE GOD AND OUR FELLOW MAN – nothing else – nothing more. YOU ARE NOT HERE TO SERVE YOURSELF. Doesn’t anyone get that? If you are serving yourself, and you are a follower of Jesus Christ, then you’d better think twice about what is written in your BOOK IN HEAVEN, as the rewards given out to you will be ONLY those that you did for Christ. And this woman just added a reward to her book.
I read some of these comments and I am convinced that the majority of you are confused as to why you are even here on earth. AND, I do believe the majority of you will either have NO REWARDS or be cast out of Heaven because you DENIED HIM, DIDN’T FOLLOW HIM (JESUS), OR YOU DID NOTHING FOR HIM(Jesus). You know who you are.

I am a follower of Christ and I also believe that every single law-abiding citizen SHOULD OWN A GUN. If I would have had a gun, I would have handled it differently. I would have probably NOT shot him because I would listen to what God wanted me to do, but I may have held him at gunpoint until the Police arrived and then talked to him, WHILE WAITING FOR THE POLICE, as a another human being who loves people and wants to help them. I would NEVER use a gun JUST TO SHOW POWER. But, I do listen to the Holy Spirit and if the HS had told me to get the gun, I would have because the HS would KNOW THAT MAN’S HEART, where I could not. The HS is a better judge of people than you or I, IF YOU ARE LISTENING.

Posted on February 5, 2012 at 12:58pmI couldn’t be more admiring of the woman for her faith in God. That kind of response did not come from any human-based reaction but could only have come from a deep willingness to trust God in all matters in her life. I certainly do not condemn anyone who isn’t ready for that level of trust in God and prefers to defend his or her home and life with a gun, but I deeply admire anyone capable of maintaining that level of faith in God when actually faced with such an immediate threat.
I’ve heard a similar story of a pedestrian being accosted for her purse & jewelry, yet expressing such faith and love for her would-be attacker that the attacker backed off and even apologized. I pray that I’ll be able to maintain such peace of mind if I ever find myself in a similar situation, but I also pray I never have to face that. This woman deserves as many kudos (if not more than) anyone who fends off an attacker with a physical weapon. What an amazing example she set!
Your one point about ‘maybe help wasn’t within reach’ doesn’t look applicable – The photo of her house in the video news story shows that her home is surrounded by many other homes in a neighborhood, but you suggested many other good points for why the son hid – not wanting to leave her, guilt, concern that the police would just make the slasher panic even worse, etc… Who knows what we’d each do when faced with gut-wrenching fear and panic at such a young age? – I won’t second-guess the kid…

Posted on February 5, 2012 at 8:49amIt is wonderful to see how Gods words can change the heart of this man and saved this God loving woman. Even in the face of death she still had the courage to call on God to be her aid.WOW

May God speed her recovery and bless her and her son. May God turn the attackers heart and I pray he seeks forgiveness and salvation. What a testimony!

I know such evil must increase for we have been forewarned.Praise be to God this woman was a Christian and able to prove a worthy example for us all.Her son has much to be proud of inhis mother and in Christ.

Posted on February 5, 2012 at 9:25amA long time ago a friend of mine expressed to me that organized religion is nothing more than an invention to control people. A way to brainwash large swaths of the populations to take crap from their enemies and not retaliate. It keeps the rich guy’s material investments from being destroyed by the ensuing paybacks. I disagreed with him at the time. But now, I agree.

Being born from above or born again as some people say is not your choice but God’s.
Matthew 22:14 ” For there are many invited, but few are chosen.”
The anointed or holy ones the little flock some people may use saints but the chosen are the 144,000 which are bought from among mankind as firstfruits to God and to the Lamb, Revelation 14:4, 7:4,

Hopefuly you are of that great crowd which no man was able to number ……Revelation 7:9

Posted on February 5, 2012 at 11:30amReaganthat. You are correct. I do believe in God and Jesus. I one time went to a Catholic church to get my son baptised and the “Priest” told me that if I didn’t come to church and offer my services to his church that basically me and my kid can go jump in a lake. He didn‘t give a rat’s as #$ about me or my son . He was only interested in what he could get out of me (he wanted me to service his computer network for free). After that, I swore off organized religion forever. I love my fellow man and treat others how I would like to be treated and do not hate anybody or group of people. I am just sick and tired of turning the other cheek like a fool.

Posted on February 5, 2012 at 1:11pmStonyburk,
The Word of God is just that, God’s Words to man. Therefore God’s Word the Bible has authority and even unbelievers take notice.
Hebrews 4:12 says; “For the word of God is alive and exerts power and is sharper than any two-edged sword and pierces even to the dividing of soul and spirit, and of joints and [their] marrow, and [is] able to discern thoughts and intentions of [the] heart. 13 And there is not a creation that is not manifest to his sight, but all things are naked and openly exposed to the eyes of him with whom we have an accounting.”
PS: Good morning Greenwood.
