Woman Set Afire With Molotov Cocktail in Elevator of Her NYC Building

Woman Set Afire in Elevator of Her NYC Building

NEW YORK (AP) — Police say a woman burned to death in the elevator of her New York City apartment building after a man ambushed her, sprayed her with liquid and set her afire with a Molotov cocktail.

Police spokesman Paul Browne says the unidentified man was waiting for the woman when the elevator doors opened to her floor of the Brooklyn building Saturday afternoon.

Browne says the unidentified woman was returning with grocery bags when the elevator doors opened to the fifth floor and she was sprayed by the assailant. The woman tried to protect herself, but the man sprayed her directly in the face. After spraying her again, the suspect used a lighter to ignite a rag in a bottle and set her aflame. Police are searching for the suspect, who they say knew his victim.

Update: NEW YORK (AP) — Police say they are questioning a man in connection to the death of a New York City woman set on fire in the elevator of her apartment building. New York Police Department spokesman Paul Browne said Sunday that the 47-year-old man went into a police precinct a couple of miles from where the attack happened in Brooklyn and said he had started a fire. Authorities say the man has made statements implicating himself and came in overnight reeking of gasoline. He hasn’t been charged. Doris Gillespie burned to death in the elevator Saturday afternoon. Police say a man was waiting for her, sprayed the 64-year-old woman with accelerant and set her on fire with a Molotov cocktail. Police have said they believe the suspect knew Gillespie.

No, drawn and quartered them at Times Square or any down town center in broad daylight and on TV channels by law and communal law, show it live in schools, universities and at work places and I mean everywhere. Brutal you ask? uncivilized???? What do you think what went through her mind and what is going through the minds of anyone in the same situation? And their families?? And BTW what is this s..t about the “unidentified” attacker when the police knew his identity this POS should have been toast!!. to hacxk with PC lets get things straight! We as a community should know when a criminal is loose, brand them like they used to do. It will teach our children a hard and ugly but correct lesson! My god, I used to be liberal and open minded at one time but the way our “civilization” is going it is worse than I could have ever imagined it makes “mad max ” look like a country fair.

Sometimes I think they had it right when they had public executions. If you actually see how the criminal dies, you may think twice about being a criminal yourself. In today’s society of “let’s give the criminal all their rights,” it’s a bit glamourous to be a criminal.

I have confidence that the NYPD will catch the murderer for 2 reasons. First they said the victim probably knew the perpetrator. The investigators will be able to run that to the ground. Second, given the high profile of the case, there will be resources for it.

Off the subject, but I don’t care. How many lives have been saved because of the OWI laws of the past 20 years? I’ts immearsuable. Not because it’s so many, it’s just not measurable. Now what is measurable is how many lives have been destroyed by these laws. The war on drugs, terrorism, I’ll just let you all extraplate on these and just let your minds open up and see the rest of it all. We live in a tyrannical state. Yes we do.

Maybe gun control worked? But it didn’t!

The murdered found it hard to acquire a gun, so he gave up.

That doesn’t mean that he gave up thoughts of murder. It means he had to find another way. And he did!

The gun controls worked. We have less crimes committed using guns, but we do not have less crime.

      Wait until we get copycats.

      @walkabout
The gun laws do not work. When guns are outlawed, then only police forces, and outlaws have them.
You are an outlaw by definition because you have an unlawful gun. Nothing has ever stopped an outlaw from getting a gun. This guy is deranged, and he could have gotten a gun had he wanted one.
He wanted to burn her, for whatever reason, or non-reason.
Gun laws only kept the woman from having a gun, assuming she was a law abiding citizen.
Never let the laws of govenment put your life at risk. Every man should own at least one unregistered gun.

I’m sorry to see so many people advocating torture on this comments thread. I don’t believe in torture, and the Constitution bans cruel and unusual punishment.

If I were in charge of his punishment, I would advocate for a single shot to the back of the head. Inexpensive, quick, and he is removed from society. Dump his filthy corpse in a garbage dump and be done with him. Society safer, problem solved, all without any form of cruel attack or punishment.

The better form of punishment for this thug is to let the citizens of the neighborhood find him and torch him just as he did. Cruel? YES, Unusual? Yes. BUT efective, low cost, and sends a message to other thugs in the neighborhood. How many want to be thugs in the neighborhood will want to be crispy critters is to be determined.

perhaps our constitution should be amended to include the words “an eye for an eye shall never be percieved as cruel or unusual punishment”. sure has a nice ring to it. our founding fathers did there best and as thier eward, we live in the best country on Earth. if they could’ve seen this or the mother that drove her children into the lake or the mother that drowned her own choldren one by one, perhaps that cruel and unusual clause would be worded quite differently.

Capital punishment does not deter murder. Where did you get that stat? People who would murder someone never consider the ramifacations of such acts. Capital punishment is as barbaric a remedy for crime as the crime itself. Never give the state the power to take your life, because the state will change the reasons they can put you to death.

But for this “thing” adding fire and rubbing alcohol would be that special touch that is needed. Starter pistol to get the horses moving.
