Woman Shouts ‘Pretend It’s Obama’ as Santorum Fires Gun at Shooting Range

A woman shouted at Rick Santorum to “pretend it’s Obama” as he fired off some rounds during a campaign stop at a shooting range in Louisiana on Friday.

According to ABC News, neither Santorum — who was far away and wearing earmuffs — nor his staffers heard the woman’s outburst, but it was clearly audible to the journalists who were there him.

“It’s absurd,” Santorum told reporters afterward when informed of the woman’s shout. “No we’re not pretending it’s anybody but shooting pistols. It’s a very terrible and horrible remark and I’m glad I didn’t hear it.”

The Secret Service, which protects Santorum, was trying to identify the woman, the Associated Press reported.

“Typically, in an incident like this, we attempt to identify the individual, speak to them and then figure out what the next steps are,” Secret Service spokesman Edwin Donovan said. “People have a right to free speech but we have a right and an obligation to determine what their intent is.”

      JHook – I do 3 things when I come to the Blaze –

      1st) – I get the News of the Day
      2nd) I ignore Obama, Van Jones and Soros OWS Comments – I can’t understand most of them anyway
      3rd) I ignore Ron Paul Supporter’s Comment – I‘m sure there’s a comment somewhere that state – Ron Paul is a Marksman and shoots a perfect tight pattern – I‘m just waiting on someone to say he walk’s on Water.

      Who would find that humorous? I shoot pistols and rifles all the time. I hunt. Never once have I imagined that my target was a person (with whom I agreed or disagreed). I think that goes for most people. It wasn’t funny. It was stupid.

      I will agree that speech and intent are two different things and speech is wholeheartedly protected. As it should be. Intent is not. As it should be. The secret services job is to discern between those two. I would think with the sensitivity of recent events, that this person is either really smart (subversively) or really idiotic. This is especially true considering that she knew cameras were there.

      Blaze staff will you please find out who the lady was? Please?!

      I know of no one who wishes Mr. Obama ill for his opinions. It is his ACTIONS that people of integrity find worthy of responding to.
      If Mr. Obama had simply stated the idiotic things he believes, he would not be a problem.
      He did not, however stop with holding a different opinion.
      He gave police authority to Interpol without the constrainsts of the Constitution (this one is known as “treason”, by the way…)
      He engaged in acts of war without the approval of congress.
      He continuously finances all of those who are dedicated to our destruction (another one of those little “treason” things).
      He violates the emoluments clause of the constitution in his appointment of a Secretaty of State.
      He openly embraces and finances terrorist organizations.
      He sides with drug cartels and terrorists, AGAINST the people of the United States at every opportunity.
      The list goes on and on.
      A difference of opinion is definitely no reason to wish someone ill. Should that someone be of the opinion that they should be allowed to rape and murder your family, and illustrate that opinion by doing so, THEN you have a reason to not only wish them ill, but to act upon that wish.
      Not just this woman, but AMERICA has a reason, and it is not about a trivial “difference of opinion”.

      Is Obama a king? Can he not be voted out? How in the world would such a response be warranted for his actions. Didn‘t the dynamic voting shift in ’10 show that the people can voice their opinion with a pencil? I don’t want to live in the world of hateful, vile, and smug commentary that comes from the left. I don’t want to become them. I see though that the right is slowly letting the left turn them into that under the moniker of “..they do it!” It shouldn’t be funny or even considered a plausible solution to a policy dispute by anyone. Let’s set an example and a high standard.

      On a side note: Even if he is voted in for another 4 years, guess what, he’s still gone in 4 years. Remember, the president is just the yes /no man (or at least he used to be until the advent of the executive order), The real power lies in changing the congress. Take home: VOTE!

      Humor was your reasoning for her comments, not mine. I didn‘t disagree that she has a right to say it as long as she doesn’t intend harm under the 1st amendment. I also agree that the woman probably thought she was being funny. The question was, “who else would find humor in what she said?” Apples and oranges. On top of that, the right to free speech doesn’t mean that what is spoken is smart speech, obviously.

      Second Amendment protects an individual’s right to possess a firearm to keep those that would be King in fear of “The People” Obama would reduce it to a right to hunt/target. That way one day the Commies can say if you never went hunting & don’t belong to a gun club you have no need or right to a gun. The commies would like nothing more than to make you have to keep your guns locked up at a gun club. Only to be removed when you are hunting or target shooting.

      Secret service is definitely an untenable position these days… Defending the number one enemy of America, in the name of America… It was probably easier under the anti-American presidents in the past who did not actually commit treason, and who were not actively striving to shred as much of the Constitution as possible.
      I really feel sorry for the ones who are ex-military. It is currently impossible to keep an oath to defend the president, and also keep an oath to defend the constitution of the US from all enemies, foreign and domestic, at the same time. The two oaths are currently mutually exclusive.
      Must make for a lot of sleepless nights (for the ones with a scrap of decency, that is).

    That’s the way I took it. There was no real threat here.

    It’s sort of like people hollering “kill the umpire” at a ball game. I’ve yet to hear of that threat ever being carried out.

    I’ve heard Democrats say much worse about Republicans, and they truly seemed to mean it.

      My very first thought as I was reading the story was if she was not a plant, Mr Thin Skin would have the Secret Service paying her a visit, if not snagged at the event. Although it is not addressed in the story or video I would think that the woman was whisked away quickly and apparently nobody was able to identify her. With Secret Service agents on hand her not being detained speaks volumes. Not saying the agents were duplicitous, but she must have disappeared quickly. Reminds me of the trolls with NAZI signs and such sneaking in with Tea Party members where the press quickly zeroes in.
