Women Beware: ‘Serial Buttock-Slasher’ on the Loose in Virginia

Police in Fairfax County, Virginia, are on the hunt for a “serial buttock slasher.” The man, who has yet to be identified and remains on the loose, has attacked a number of young women in area shopping centers.
Authorities are appealing to citizens in their search for the perpetrator, who they believe to be Hispanic, heavyset and around the age of 20. To assist in their quest to capture the assailant, police have released a video that apparently features him entering a local store. Below, watch the clip (courtesy of WRC-TV):
According to the six victims who have come forward thus far, the man distracts women, then slashes them across the bottom with what authorities believe to be a box-cutter or razor. Mail Online reports:
In the most recent attack, an 18-year-old woman was slashed through a pair of denim shorts as she browsed for clothes at a Forever 21 outlet in Fair Oaks Mall on Monday evening.
She told police she noticed several clothes falling from a rack behind her, saw a man bend to pick them up, then felt a ‘sharp pain’ in her rear.
While the woman believed that it was merely a coat hanger that had poked her, she quickly realized that she was bleeding; she subsequently reported the incident. Since February, these attacks have been unfolding, with all of the victims falling between their teen years and early 20s. Police are warning women to be on the lookout while out and about. ABC News reports:
Ex-FBI profiler, Gregg McCrary, says that the attacker may be suffering from a sexual disorder called piquerism, which Encyclo.co.uk defines as the following:
…a paraphilia in which one finds pleasure in stabbing or cutting bodies with sharp objects. It is a form of sadomasochism. The most frequently targeted areas of the body are the breasts, buttocks, or groin.
McCrary also claims that the suspect’s past relationships could help lead police to him. He encouraged any women who have experienced similar actions, especially within the context of a relationship, to come forward.
