Workers Punished After Disabled Gays Are Told to Leave Public Pool for ‘Excessive’ Affection

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Officials in a small city in eastern Kentucky are disciplining a couple of workers after two disabled gay men were told to leave a public pool.

The city of Hazard said Saturday one worker had been suspended for a week without pay. The employee, Kim Haynes, told investigators the couple was engaged in an excessive display of affection while at the pool with the social service group Mending Hearts.

Haynes also acknowledged referencing the Bible in an argument with the leader of the Mending Hearts group, saying the affection wasn’t tolerated.

The manager of the Hazard Pavilion also was reprimanded for unbecoming conduct, The Courier-Journal reported.

The city manager says new anti-discrimination signs will be posted at the pool, as well as signs warning against excessive public displays of affection.

Wouldn‘t it have wise on the part of the Pool attendant’s to pull out the cell phone and video the event, if they felt is was beyond reasonable? At the least, they would have evidence as to their action. It might just have saved their butts. Ofttimes proactive is a survival tactic, but then again, it‘s a pool and it’s suppose to be a time of fun.

I DO want to hear other opinions, otherwise I wouldn’t have been on this site, I wouldn’t have taken the time to read each and every post or to challenge those points I disagree with. OK, I have some simple questions: What kind of “Affection” were they displaying? If it was graphically sexual in nature, I on the side of the workers. The real question is whether or not the same type of “affection” being shown by a heterosexual couple would have evoked the same response. If yes, then I’m fine with it. If no, then the punishment fits. EQUAL JUSTICE is the standard by which any action should be measured, not SOCIAL JUSTICE, no matter what side of the issue you are on.

Iohjustchillout I doubt seriously that JC had to be subjected to two gays being overly or excessively affectionate. In Gethsemene, he felt their sins excessively like all of the sins of the world. The whole idea is to put down your sins and to turn to him, I don’t think two gay guys in a pool slobbering all over each other is putting down their sins and taking up their Savior. No they want everyone to see their sin, which to many of us is offending. Every gay man I ever knew was gay because they had been molested as a child.. they are confused about their sexual identity. I do not believe they come into the world like it, I believe it is something that they have to overcome just like all of us, we are given something to deal with.. either we roll over and give in or we fight it and live a sin free life. It is people like you who have no cares on what goes on around you.

I come from a loving family, my parents are together and supportive of my life. I am Godfather to my brother’s eldest son. We had an incredibly “normal” upbringing with no trauma. I was five the first time I told my parents I felt different than other boys. When my dad told me that story a few years ago, he told me he’s never been ashamed. My parents love my partner like a son. I have friends who have parents that share your convictions and have turned their backs on their own children. I continue to just feel sad for you. And for crying out loud, no one has said they were slobbering on each other! Just stop.

Here we go again–another ‘gay’ thing.

Seriously–who the h*ll wants to see two people tonsil-box in public? That kind of thing is for high-schoolers, when we were all over our girlfriends in the Mall to show off?

    “Hey, I‘m gettin’ mine!”

When you define yourself by who you’re sleeping with–and even go so far as to literally make a court case out of it or elsewhere that includes some kind of ‘punishment’– you’re the one with the problem, not everyone else.

    Pfft!

An injustice was done to these two homosexual men who may not be capable of having a voice. Thank God for those who will stand up on their behalf for what is right.

Just what was the “excessive affection” shuld determine who is at fault. If the people involved were NOT gay, would it still have been excessive affection and would they still have been asked to leave? If so, the workers are NOT at fault. Most people don’t want to see people groping each other or worse at a public facility no matter what their sexual orientation is and whether they are disabled or physically perfect.

Um. Excuse me, but where in the report was “excessive petting” mentioned? I have no issue with requiring that rules be enforced, but they should be enforced equally, and honestly. One person sitting on another person’s knee is not an excessive display of affection. It’s barely a display of contact. You‘re engaging in a level of emotional hype that’s practically liberal in its degree — expanding “sitting on a knee” into wanton acts of fluid emission, groping, and lewdness that did not happen.

We don’t like it when the libs pull these tactics on Glenn. We shouldn’t pull them on anyone else. There’s a word for that…hypo-something.

ohjustchillout is all over on this subject. Here is the problem with people like him or her… We have had the gay society cram their way of life down our throats.. I can’t even turn on a television show without it hitting me smack in the face. As a Christian I know that it is a sin… as do many Americans.. yes they have their free agency.. but they don’t have to beat us over the head with it. They don’t have to be so blatant.. tell me ohjustchillout, would you go to a pool with your other half in front of families and excessively slober all over each other. There is a time a place for such behavior and it isn’t around my children. It is people like you who just don’t get it. People no longer have any respect for others, much less themselves. I have known a few gay people in my time and none of them were making a point of it, they didn’t cram it down our throats. I respected them, I didn’t approve of their lifestyles.. but they didn’t have to put on a demonstration for a public pool! For children or adults. They had class and were refined. Way I look at it, is those who feel they have to put on shows for us are gays that haven’t really come to terms with being gay… they are trying to prove to themselves that what they are doing is fine and I am gonna show everybody what I am up to. Even heterosexuals don’t act this way and if they do they are wanna be porn stars.

No, I would not slobber all over my partner in public (after 16 years together there’s not much slobbering going on anyway), but I would have equal issue with a straight couple exhibiting such behavior in public as well. If you view my inability to choose my sexual orientation as a sin, that is your issue…we each seem to have a different relationship with God, but it is not my job to make you comfortable, period.

Absolutely. As an employee, you can cite policy, not your personal beliefs. If you feel the need, do so on your own time, off-premises. If someone came into a business and started handing out Christian leaflets and preaching repentance, an employee could come up and cite policy about non-solicitation, but not go on a rant about condemning the person’s religion. If that employee started attacking the solicitor’s Christianity, termination would be deemed appropriate. This situation is no different.

Policy is policy. Uphold it (equally) and leave your personal beliefs out of it…you‘re on someone else’s timeclock.

What the Blaze did NOT tell you was
      1) Montgomery County Board of Health was summoned by the Congressional (a private Country Club) Golf Course to remove the stand from blocking pedestrian access to the “VIP” Parking Area entrance
      2) The $500 fine was removed within 2-3 hours,
      3) the stand was allowed to operate 125 yards away from the driveway for the rest of the 5 day event,
      4) the lemonade stand had no Vendor license, was organized by several Adults, and was actually selling bottled beverages on ice (water, iced tea and sodas purchased at CostCo), and
      5) the endeavor( started to raise funds for charity) was a huge success.

I think this is a completely fair action by the pool employees, or a completely unfair one. if straight couples aren’t allowed to make out in the pool, homosexual couples shouldn’t be allowed to either.

If couples are allowed to kiss, there’s some discrimination going on here.
However, the men in question should really know better… most people don’t want to see your lifestyle choice displayed in public. You have no rights to subject us to something that belongs in your private bedroom.

Most people don’t want to see people groping each other or worse at a public facility no matter what their sexual orientation is and whether they are disabled or physically perfect.

That’s wrong. Most men want to see two women go after it. Only because our liberal society is SICK IN THE HEAD!

Can‘t understand why the workers didn’t just declare that the filters weren’t working and close the pool! That’s what we did back in the 1960s (think about it).

After everyone was out, we‘d drain the pool and get the HTH out and scrub ’er down. We’d fill the pool back up and have a good time! I had to rescue one of the lifeguards, though, when he got a cramp in his thigh and went under in waist-deep water. Couldn’t stand on that leg.

That‘s the problem with today’s people — no imagination!

Dustyluv, henceforth, watch the video. The reporter states that the reason for the ejection was “one guy sat on another guys knee.” That’s not “groping.“ ”Groping” is something else. You don’t get around much do you?

the only mistake the employee made was bringing the bible into it. all in all it looks like they were with in their rights to ask the men to stop and then ask them to exit stage left when they didnt. Im all for simple public displays of affection, but there comes a point where its time to get a room. A public pool where families attend is probably not the best place to grope your lover, gay or straight….i really wish sex and sexuality wasnt so taboo in this country but it is and while it is its better to respect the public and keep those displays to a minimum…again kudos to the workers for trying to follow the rules…next time leave the bible out of it and just say…these are the rules and you are breaking them…you need to leave….

They were reprimanded for confronting patron with personal beliefs, not simply policy. It also doesn’t sound like there actually was much to take offense to by way of inappropriate displays of affection. Sitting on a knee? Seriously?

People are heterosexual and homosexual…both have the responsibility to maintain equal decorum…the operative word being EQUAL.

This is what has me worried. In a matter of weeks, the pre-training will be complete for ending DADT, and the sodimites will get unleashed on our military. When they do, the militant lesbians, and assorted gay perverts will be looking for every way possible to be in your face. From gay and lesbian pride night at the officers and NCO club, to all manner of freakishness. When those who have a Biblical or moral stance open their mouth, we will get squashed like bugs. The gays and lesbian crowd will be the new protected EO group, and the chains of command will be afraid for their careers, and will be looking to appease the immoral degenerates

I don’t hate Homos. I just think that they should be required to go to a room or better yet get their own gay pool if they are into public water play. Homosexual activity is NOT normal and it should not be forced on 98% of the normal population. What’s next protection of public masterbation? Let‘s be reasonable live and let live but don’t force normal people to tolorate A-moral behavior. Thank You and have a great day. TEA !

      WOW!
      I used to live THERE!!!

      ROFLMAO!

What I don’t know, is how they found any gay people in Hazard???

      Seriously, though…

The worker was wrong to throw them out because “gay people are not allowed to swim here”.
However, I certainly agree that overt PDA’s are not appealing, whether it is us or them doing it.
But, “sitting on their knee” is not exactly, “OVERT,” either.
Now, if they were dry humping or groping, then, yes, take it to a room.
What’s next – holding hands? Oh, MY GOODNESS!

Hazard is taking the correct actions – suspension because of the worker‘s words citing God as the reason they aren’t allowed to swim there – the worker should have simply told them to stop the PDA’s and, if it continued, then kick them out for PDA’s. The city is also posting a sign that states all people are free to swim there, which is the correct policy.

The gay rights group that is planning to sue the city needs to drop the suit, as the city took swift, correct response, and the CITY is not behaving in a biased or prejudicial manner. One employee did, and has been punished accordingly.

It does not help the city’s public relations that the two perpetrators of knee-sitting were mentally handicapped.

The story leaves a lot to be known. Were the two eaten each others faces? Were they dry humping each other? Or were they just being cozy? Perhaps holding hands?

I’ve seen many straight couples, mostly teens, being told to stop with PDA. I’ve seen many straight couples being kicked out of various places for PDA. They were swapping spit like there would be no tomorrow.

So I’d have to ask, what level of PDA were these two homosexuals conducting? I‘ll give it to the employee if they were going at it like two rabbits but since the story doesn’t tell these details, it’s hard to judge whether the employee was correct in what he did or if he over reacted to homosexuals showing interest or affection for one another.

Just the fact that there were ****’s in the pool would be enough to drain and disenfect it… maybe sand blast the whole thing. I can’t think of much that I consider more filthy than homos. You can make up your own minds.

A case of the local aholes punishing a poorly trained employee, who thought he knew what was proper in that situation. Employee probably didn’t go to public schools or he would have been indoctrinated by now on doing nothing in that situation.
