Would You Sleep in This Giant Tent Hammock?

Forest floor too rough? Can’t sleep for fear of snakes slithering into your tent? Would much rather sleep in the comfort of a hammock but still want a protective layer of a tent over your head.

The Tentsile lets you do both. As Gizmodo describes, it is a giant “tent hammock”. Tentsile hangs in the trees off the ground to, as the company explains, “provide separation from wildlife, including insects, snakes and other predators but also from sand storms, earth tremors, cold or wet ground, debris or contamination.”

The Tentsiles come in a range of sizes, with the largest holding up to 12 people. Gizmodo points out that the one that can pack in a dozen will weigh about 100 pounds when carried on your back though.

According to the Tentsile website, the structure uses a collapsible frame and fire retardant, UV PU and water resistant fabric. Tension of weight on the fabric and the frame is what provides the hammock-like experience.

In addition to being used in camping experiences, Tensile also states that it could provide affordable shelter in “humanitarian or natural disaster situations.”
