The professional wrestler Chris Jericho has been suspended from the WWE for 30 days after crumpling up a Brazilian flag and kicking it out of the ring before his match against “C.M. Punk” during a WWE event in Brazil Thursday night. ESPN reports that police almost arrested Jericho on the spot.
“Jericho has been suspended indefinitely due to an irresponsible act of denigrating the Brazilian flag at a WWE event in Sao Paulo on May 24,” the WWE said in a statement. “The WWE has apologized to the citizens and the government of Brazil for this incident.”
The Winnipeg Free Press reports that in Brazil, desecration of the flag is grounds for arrest and incarceration.
TMZ has obtained video of the incident where the crowd can be heard booing following Jericho’s action:
TMZ reports that police gave Jericho an option — apologize to the arena, or go to jail.
Jericho can be heard in the video apologizing to the crowd as the match was postponed, adding “I love Brazil.” Jericho later tweeted:

Sources tell TMZ that the flag stunt was not planned or approved by WWE officials.
Wait…. planned?

Taxes? Youl little weasel. We gripe about paying taxes because your daddy takes our money, hands it out to his friends for votes, then brags about how much he does for everyone. Not good stewardship of our hard earned, confiscated fruits. You probably don’t have a job, thus your lackluster attempt to insult the producers of this country. No problem.
It’s par for the course. I will be waiting for your scathing expose’ of Warren buffett. What do you do, just sit around hoping to be the first idiot to post on a story? And what did taxes have to do with this story? You suck at your job,if itncan be called that. Mr. Soros fire this loser.

Posted on May 26, 2012 at 11:14amFake wrestling guy, desicrates Brazilian flag….gets suspended. Does anyone take WWE characters seriously? News flash, it’s all character acting, like real life cartoon characters. What it does is serve as a distraction to the masses and helps hide what’s really happening to this country, which is the socialist take over. I served this country, I love this country, and I hate with a passion when I see an American flag desecrated. However, I will defend their right to free speech, because in this country we have freedoms. You start being selective in those freedoms, and it’s a slippery slope. The flag is a symbol of what this country stands for. Yes it‘s disrespectful to burn it but it’s still a freedom. Let me tell you what every true Patriotic American should take notice of is the huge wastes of our tax money. The corruption taking place in our government, the lies that the main stream media feed the people to further their socialist agenda. Wake up to what’s really happening, and don’t get wrapped around an axle with meaningless stories like this. This means nothing….PS….Socialist trolls aren’t worth adressing directly.

Posted on May 26, 2012 at 3:11amOver the years, a lot of WWE wrestlers have desecrated the American flag in the ring. They do it on purpose to deliberately make the viewers hate them and see them as the “bad guy”. Obviously Chris Jericho didn’t realize that the anti-nationalist schtick doesn’t go over well in countries like Brazil.
Report Post »And why is he still in the game, anyway? He used to be slender, pretty and fun to watch. Now he’s gotten pudgy, and he’s got to be at least 45 years old by now. It’s time for him to retire and let the young prettyboys have a shot at the glory that he has already known throughout his career.

Posted on May 26, 2012 at 9:41amJericho is a IDIOT! At a time when America is at the lowest ebb of worldwide respect, you have a star of the most widely watched weekly series desecrate the flag of the host nation, he not only should be suspended, he should be fired.
Yes, he apologized but only AFTER he was given the choice – - – apologize or go to jail!!!
I know that WWE is a show and they do many things which stir up controversy, however there are limits. I personally get sick when anyone, famous presonalities or just idiotic protesters, desecrate the AMERICAN flag, under the guise of “Free Speech” and that our idiotic ******* judges, who don’t respect their own country, would allow it is abominable.
WWE personalities are known worldwide and are defacto representatives of the United States. For one of their stars to act this way is beyond outrageous.

Posted on May 26, 2012 at 10:33pm@ Starman70,
You don’t seem to understand freedom of speech at all. It is not selectively free speech. It is not regulated speech. It is free speech. Meaning that any citizen of The United States of America can express themselves without ramification or fear of government interference, as long as it does no harm unto another party (i.e. no yelling out “fire” in a movie theater while there is no fire, for the chance that in the panic people might get hurt)
While I certainly don’t agree with the desecrating of the American flag, your suggestions would be unconstitutional.

Seriously, I didn’t know it was a crime in Brazil to desecrate their flag. Respect for the flag, what a concept. Here in America, we “respect the rights” of a grade-school kid who doesn’t want to stand up and say the Pledge of Allegiance, which is about pledge your allegiance to “the republic for which it stands.” Maybe Obama will be there best oil customer and all will be forgotten…

I thought Pat Patterson, unified the North American Championship with the South American Championship in Rio de Janeiro during a tournament in 1979. I have been lied to by the WWE. Anyways, his job out there is to create heat from the crowd. I don’t care if he was “suspended” or not, but it should the higher ups at WWE responsibility to know if Punk brought that flag in the ring to not use it as a negative prop. Big time screw up, people could have been killed.

What I find amazing is, about each month in the Middle East we see the sub-humans burning Americans flags, and this has been going on for 30+ years yet to this day Hitlary Clinton still hands out millions in aid for them, and each year for the holidays American food banks ask for help, and Hitlary is a no show

Posted on May 25, 2012 at 8:39pmWell, it seems they can always use the good old U.S. flage to desecrate, defecate upon and burn if no other country will put up with it. They need to keep in mind though, someone may go a bit crazy and do pay back. Our forefathers and military died defending this country, and giving you your freedom, so just go ahead and take your pain out on the rest of America, it seems everyone else does, but keep in mind some of us are a bit more crazy than others, perhaps someone who has had their brains about blown out by some land mine in some war protecting American interests here and abroad. Those of you who have no honor will push too far and it will circle around and bit you in the azz, as it always ends like that. Sooner or later, it will not end good for those who wipe their feet on America. It will, indeed come full circle.

Posted on May 25, 2012 at 8:21pmI was reading about this earlier today. As a wrestling fan for many years many wrestlers have done the same or upset different people. The reason it is different here is that Brazil has strict laws about respecting their country and also this was WWE’s first time in Brazil.

I have seen a lot from people who made fun of Americans to American wrestlers making fun of foreigners. However, as the link mentions Brazil has tough laws about discriminating their country and national artifacts. I‘m glad Jericho wasn’t arrested for something he didn’t would land him into big trouble.
