A 25-year-old U.K. man filmed driving the wrong way down a busy road while his friends cheered him on has been banned from driving for three years.
Steven McInulty was also given an eight-month suspended sentence and ordered to pay a fine for the June incident, Sky News reported. He admitted to driving dangerously, driving on a suspended license and driving without insurance.
Footage posted on YouTube shows McInulty trying to evade police by speeding up and down the road, at times even driving in reverse while other cars struggled to avoid him, all as his friends egg him on from the side of the road.
“When the police officer went after you, you then drove appallingly,” the judge told McInulty during his court appearance. “You caused all sorts of vehicles to have to take evasive action as you drove the wrong way and you then drove past your pals, who all thought it was tremendously funny and who had the stupidity to film you.
“What you did, it is lucky nobody was killed or seriously injured,” the judge said, adding that it was “more by luck than judgment” there were not more serious repercussions.

Posted on February 20, 2012 at 4:45pmAs a long-time, heavy commuter I have seen my share of bad drivers over the years. I have to say that it’s about equal. However, to be specific, men mostly do dangerous things and females usually own the stupid moves. Just my opinion…

She obviously has deep seated issues from her childhood and now blames males for everything.

Posted on February 18, 2012 at 11:31pmI don’t care much for freeway driving during rush hour, but I had to do so recently.
Shortly after I got on the freeway, my wife called me on my cell phone to warn me that the news reported that some idiot was driving the wrong way on the freeway. I told her the news was wrong, there were hundreds of ‘em!

Posted on February 18, 2012 at 8:02pmHis friends should have been charged as accomplices, they knew what he was about to do and did nothing to stop him or alert authorities, instead they participated by recording what should have been charged as wreckless endangerment at the very least.

Posted on February 18, 2012 at 7:47pmI would lock him up for at least three years and give him permanent revocation of driving privileges. What a moron. too bad they cant tattoo “ reckless driver nearly killed dozens for fun” on his face and castrate him. The world does not need his genes in the pool.

Posted on February 18, 2012 at 7:17pmThis sentence was appalling. The judge treated this case like this kid was guilty of mischief, not mayhem. If he had killed someone, would he have gotten a murder conviction or manslaughter? You make the call. I know what the judge would have ruled!

Report Post »Yes, he was driving recklessly, but nobody got hurt. That HAS to be taken into account. If someone had gotten hurt, he probably would have been much worse off, but again—nobody got hurt.

Posted on February 18, 2012 at 4:31pmWhat he did was more dangerous….by far….than waving a loaded gun around in public. If he had done that, he would probably have gotten something like twoyears incarceration.
By his reckless driving behavior the chances of him killing numerous innocent people was greater by a factor of at least one hundred, but for reason these judges everywhere give these road renegades a slap on the wrist.
And it continues on as if it were a game.
I’m wondering if jailing one of these lame-brained judges who has his priorities skewed would solve the problem of sentencing defendants according to their lethalness and not because he thinks vehicles are o.k., but guns are yuckie?

Posted on February 18, 2012 at 2:55pmWanton disregard to the lives and property of others and three years suspended is all he gets? This wasn’t a “mistake” or “error” it was willful disregard for everyone one on that road that day. This is why Progressive Liberal societies die off. They let the worst get away with anything. But try balancing the budget or being fiscally responsible and you’re branded some kind of demon!
