Wrong Way Interstate Crash Kills 2 in Wisconsin

A father of three was killed Saturday when a wrong-way driver collided head-on with his vehicle on a Wisconsin interstate.(Media credit: WISN-TV)

Two people are dead after a driver going the wrong way on a Wisconsin interstate collided head-on with another vehicle, authorities said Saturday.

A 44-year-old woman was driving the wrong direction on the eastbound side of Interstate 94 in Pewaukee just after midnight Saturday, police said. She crashed into the car of 41-year-old Brian St. Germaine, a husband and father of three who was on his way to work. Both were pronounced dead. The woman’s name has not been released.

The sheriff’s department told WISN-TV it received multiple calls Saturday about the driver going the wrong way shortly after midnight. Both the sheriff’s department and state police sent at least four squad cars to try and stop the vehicle, but the collision occurred just as one deputy was arriving on the scene.

Lt. Paul Renkas told the station the deputy was almost involved in the crash.

“I think it could have been much worst. It’s a tragic set of circumstances. Right now, we have two dead people and I think we could have easily had more than that,” he said.

County investigators said they did not see any immediate signs that alcohol was a factor in the wreck, but are continuing to probe the crash.

St. Germaine’s wife Nicole said her young children are devastated and she wants answers.

“Honestly, I just want to know what happened. I know it’s an accident and nobody would ever like this to happen, but I just want to get some answers,” she said.

I am the wife of this victim and the mother of his three daughters. I don’t know if this should have made national news, and quite frankly didn’t know it had until reading this today. I can’t say if it should be national or not except to say that people need to be more aware of drinking and driving. Yes she was drunk with a BAC of 0.356. This took till Thanksgiving for me to find out. Her name was eventually released and I still don’t understand why it took so long when her family was notified before me and I had been calling 911 and his cell phone for hours because he had not shown up for work. Yep, that is where he was going while she was coming from a bar. All I can say now is that I am on a personal mission to try to stop drinking and driving. I can’t tell you how often things like this happen in this ridiculous state of enablers.

Sorry to hear about such a loss…

This is why I drive a new full size 3/4 ton truck everyday now ! At least I have a better chance at living, around here every head on that a car vs truck the truck driver walks away with minor or no injuries at all !!

But ,with my luck I will get a head on by some dolt when I am in my beloved 1968 Charger R/T,it survived a crash 2 years ago being t-boned by a new Honda Accord that ran a red,the Accord was totalled, front end crashed up to the firewall, front wheels crumpled into the engine ,my car was fixed and is as new (pass door,1/4 panel ,rear axle, wheel) I had no injuries but the Accord owner had a brocken wrist from the airbag, loss of teeth ect…I was just sore, and totally ticked off, when will people learn how to drive !!

I saw a mess in the middle of the highway one night just after the police shut down the road. A woman had parked her car on the shoulder and walked into the path of a 18 wheel truck. The car she parked was in running condition with no mechanical problems. It was a very selfish way to end her life. The truck driver was uninjured physically but he will always remember seeing her when it was too late to steer away from her and hearing the collision.

something to remember:Most wrong way motorist accidents happen in the fast lane (traveling the correct direction) most of the wrong way cars have their lights off, which is a good reason not to travel in the fast lane. Police officers as a % are involved in these accidents because they usually travel in the fast lane.

Here is a fact that is little known to the motoring public. Especially nowdays.

On all American interstate freeways, there are little plastic reflectors embedded in the pavement. You’ve all seen them. When you drive over them, you also hear them. They have little white reflectors on them. On the BACK side of these things are RED reflectors. If you are driving on the freeway and the reflectors are red, then take warning. You are going the wrong way!

Next time you are on the freeway, check it out for yourself. Look in the mirror and see the red backsides. You can really see them in sunlight.

Not all areas have the reflector bumps as a snowplow easily removes them. many states have ‘do not enter’ or ‘wrong way’ on the backsides of signs near on ramps and off ramps. She was intoxicated or a suicide mission. Recently there was a love striken teenage girl that did the same thing, exept she lived and the other person died. They looked at her phone and read texts such as “i’m going to run into oncoming traffic if you break up with me“ and ”bye”. After killing the other motorist she lied and said it was an accident but the cellphone records proved otherwise.

It’s actually pretty inconvenient to get on an interstate going the wrong way. You practically have to make a very sharp U-turn to get onto an offramp going the wrong way, but somehow, this person managed.

If on the freeway you are seeing the silver back sides of road signs instead of the front, or if the reflecting markers on the pavement are showing red instead of white, WARNING. You are going the wrong way!!!

I saw a woman in Colorado I-76 do that once. She was coming right at us, and went into the ditch to avoid a collision.

Probably the only way to effectively prevent the “wrong way on the Interstate” accidents is to install one-way retractable spikes like they have at rental car lots on every freeway entrance and exit ramp to blow all four tires before they have a chance to enter a highway going the wrong direction. Is this solution practical or economically feasible? Nope.

Problem with that is 2 fold. 1- Emergency vehicles sometimes have to go the wrong way to get to accidents. 2- The Unions would get all the work and charge a fortune.

It is not news. At least news that I care about. Yeah, I have lost friends to auto accidents, but does this really qualify as national news that the people need? I don’t think so. Maybe local news but not national. We have commies and NWO goons trying to take over our country and this is what they feed us?

They need to make sure that the dead woman who caused the accident has her BAC checked and published IN BIG BOLD PRINT everywhere if she was driving drunk. Alcohol like drugs, is a scourge upon America and due to human nature and our increasing Liberal/Libertine society… the irresponsible far outway the responsible among us.

Tougher laws on drunk drivers and much tougher laws on those who kill when driving drunk.

That is strange that they‘d reveal one driver’s name but not the other. If it‘s an illegal alien who can’t read our street signs this will be swept under the rug very quickly by the media.

You may not care, especially since it has been almost 6 months but this is my response… That statement was made literally minutes after I identified my husbands body and I was in complete shock! I believe I was trying to say something to the affect that noone would ever do this on purpose or so I would hope. After said interview, I didn’t even remember it. So unless anything like this has ever happened to you in your life maybe have some compassion. This has been an enormous blow to my family and I wish it on absolutely noone, this kind of pain. So that is the answer to your question on what kind of statement that was. Good day!

Real good chance she was an illegal alien. Maybe drunk. Not especially familiar with driving a car. Not familiar with the roads. Not familiar with the rules of the roads. Not licensed to drive. Not insured to drive. Speaks the language and reads the signs little or not at all. Suddenly makes it real easy to happen… and is happening all the time.
