‘You Fu**ers!’ Wild CO 8-Year-Old Pepper Sprayed at School After Outburst

8-year-old Aidan. “Just kind of like whenever anybody upsets me. Like I just kind of want to tear them apart… I think it’s not ever going to go away… It’s just who I am.”

That’s the confession of 8-year-old Aidan from Lakewood, CO. And on February 22, he tore a classroom apart in his attempt to tear his teachers apart. In fact, he apparently got so wild, he fashioned himself a weapon out of the wood trim and was trying to “stab” teachers. He also threw chairs and a TV. When police arrived on scene to defuse the situation, they pepper sprayed the second-grader:

Local station 9News explains what led cops to that drastic action:

Aidan “was climbing the cart and spitting at teachers. He also broke wood trim off the walls and was trying to stab teachers with it.”

“I wanted to make something sharp if they came out because I was so mad at them,” Aidan said. “I was going to try to whack them with it.”

The report goes on to say Aidan, “was holding what looked like a sharpened one foot stick and he screamed, ‘Get away from me you f—ers.’”

Lakewood Police officers ordered the 8-year-old to “drop the stick.” When he refused, they sprayed him with pepper spray twice until he dropped the piece of wood and was handcuffed.

Naturally, Aidan’s mom, Mandy, isn’t happy.

“I‘m sure what he was doing wasn’t right, but he’s 8 years old,” Mandy told 9News. “They walked in, asked him to drop the stick, and then sprayed him with the spray… I think it’s excessive.”

But a spokesman for the Lakewood police department doesn’t think so, especially considering the situation.

“I think they not only made the right choice, they made a great choice that day to use the pepper spray,” Steve Davis told the station.

As Gawker says, maybe Davis could have chosen better words than “they made a great choice,” but that doesn’t erase his argument. Especially considering police have been called to the school before to respond to Aidan’s outbursts. Twice.

Aidan has now been moved to a school for children with behavioral issues.

As a side note, I lived in Lakewood for a year recently. I can tell you that the reputation of the Lakewood PD around the Colorado suburbs — and within the law enforcement community that I was friendly with — isn’t spotless, but that’s not because the department is known for being brutal, kid-beating thugs. Mostly, the impression I got is that the LPD is a little more full of itself: each officer must have a four-year degree and is technically called an “agent.” They’re stuck up, is what other current and former law enforcement officials told me.

But in the end, being a little cocky isn’t a crime — as long as you’re preventing or responding to them. Even if they involve 8-year-olds.

What do you think?

Honestly I think this is just another child that just refuses to listen to authority and if he does notget his way, he throws an over exaggerated temper tantrum. Nothing more, Nothing less.

This kid may have some food allergy or something. My niece had been pretty uncontrollable, flying into a rage or a screaming crying tantrum until my sister started her on a gluten, wheat and preservative free diet. She is now 10 years old and doing much better. She has also had some counseling about her rage and she has learned to announce that she is feeling angry and has to be left alone for a couple minutes to get herself together. It works. She even says how much better she feels. She is also extremely intelligent and keeping a continuing flow of information to her seems to help as well! Don’t get me wrong, I voted to spray, but the parents have to get a handle on what is causing this behavior. It takes a lot of effort and is exhausting for my sister, but my niece is doing so much better it is worth it to her. Good luck to these parents, I hope they take this as a wake-up call and do something so the boy can have a somewhat normal life.

So, your niece is going to go thru her life believing the world revolves around her and everyone needs to adjust according to HER moods? That’s NOT even “a somewhat normal life.”

Children who don‘t learn that it’s not an “all about me” world, and early on, face harsh reality checks when they find out that the world won’t dance to their “all about me” tune in their adult years.

What are the alternatives? Tazer, man-handle him? How about everyone leave the room, and let him de-escalate on his own. Once the audience/threat etc, is gone, they usually calm down within minutes. If confronted in this condition, they continue to escalate. Been there.

I agree. And wash his little mouth out with soap like grandma used to do. I raised 2 boys and put myself through college as a single mother. My 2 boys would never, ever want their momma showing up to the school over something like this. They would be begging the police to take them off to juvie. LOL.
Think about all the other 8-year-old kids that had to watch this little creep! And this is the 3rd time they had to call the police!

This kid didn’t learn a lesson at all, either. He’s got more attention now.
His mother never spanked him and probably was way to busy to stop what she was doing to discipline her child. If this is some kind of mental or emotional disorder, a GOOD parent would have caught on wayyyy earlier in their child’s life and got them to the right darn school!

I don’t see any hope for this kid. He has learned that he can do whatever he wants, and those in charge will be afraid to touch him. Maybe he learned something from the pepper spray, but I fear it will be short lived. The bright spot I see in this is the rest of the class. Think about what they learned. There will be those that will try to get away with the same kind of behavior, but won’t be able to carry it off. However, most of them will see behavior that is absolutely NOT acceptable. Those that were afraid of him will be tramatized for a time will come out of the experience stronger.

That might be true..a child does learn from their parents’ behaviour. How can a child of the young age of 8 have “deep-seeded” problems? Makes you wonder. And when he was asked “ Did you want to kill your teachers” ..he says ” Yea…a little bit”. A little bit???
My dad just gave us “the eye” and we behaved. We never wanted to humiliate our parents by acting out. They wouldn’t have stood for it. Good luck lady with that kid..you’ll need it. I almost think he shouldn’t be around other kids.
As far as the police peppering him with spray, well, why can’t grown people control a little boy when they take down adults all the time? We all weren‘t there and didn’t see how badly that kid acted. He’s a danger . I hope he gets mental treatment.

I know in my day, both mom and dad would’ve waxed my ass if I pulled crap like that, but wait, that can’t happen anymore… it’s not politically correct to use corporal punishment anymore, even when It’s the parents administering it. Cute and precocious but has not even the slightest idea of right or wrong. He is way too old to do much about it. I think most of you are totally wrong about this necessarily being the parents’ fault. They may have played a small role, but some people are just born evil. No one is absolutely beyond redemption, but it isn’t very likely that these sociopathic types will change over their lifetime.

The best our society can do with individuals like this is lock them up for life before they do any real damage. When this kid gets popped for his first adult crime at 17 or 18, make sure he is sentenced to the max and do not let him out on parole. Minimize the damage he can do.

The idea of early release/ parole is antithetical to our once just society anyhow. It violates the sanctity of the jury’s verdict.

I also don’t oppose the idea of public whippings and hangings, not just for capital murder. They used to hang horse thieves in my state. Execution for heinous crimes other than murder is a perfectly legal and ethical way to rid the society of sociopaths before they get to a Ted Bundy level body count.

PA Patriot, I fear you are correct. In my 30 years of teaching, my teacher friends and I were able to predict with remarkable accuracy which students would end up in trouble. While I agree the taser was excessive, I cannot tell you how scary it can be when kids are totally out of control and you have to worry not only about your own safety but also that of the children in the room. I have seen kids throw desks and books, kick, bite, and so on. As a teacher, you can’t help but be almost afraid to touch them because you know that you can be accused of abusing or assaulting the child and lose your career or worse – even if you are just trying to control the child and protect others.

Seriously? Just like the story last week with little Osmond who tried to yank off the girls jihab this kid is a menace. It is not the role of the school or government to raise children. Parenting happens at home. I could scream when I hear a parent try to justify their childs behavior. AT 8 YEARS OLD HE IS ALREADY A THREAT TO SOCIETY.

It might not have been appropriate to pepper spray an 8 year old. But, I think this will teach him a lesson next time he decides to run a muck. Sometimes we have to do the hard things to teach kids valuable lessons- like violence begets violence.

I think mom is living in a fantasy world and needs to get a realistic grip. This kid has deep seated problems and needs help, the sooner the better. Why should any school have to put up with that behavior, much less expose other students to it, and teachers shouldn’t have to put up with it either. I just wonder why it took so long to remove him from this class.

Apparently, it sounds like this kid has never been spanked or even disciplined and knows now consequences for his actions. That’s what happens when there is no father in the house.
I saw no father, no father was mentioned, talked about, or shown. The kid seemed nice, but his mother is an enabler and an excuse-maker.
“They treated him like a common criminal.” Maybe, because he ACTED like a common criminal. This kid needs discipline intervention before he grows up or he will be another statistic or jail-mate.

Children become what the parents allow them to become.
I give my children the stability of routine, and the guidance of discipline. I actually do my job as a parent. Everywhere I go people are always amazed at how well behaved my kids are. So this Kid needs some serious intervention, and his parents need to get some help as well as grow a pair. The kid needs to make the connection between action and consequence. Trying to kill your teacher does have a consequence and pepper spray is getting off light. That mother needs to wake up to reality that her kid is a future inmate and start taking responsibility for his upbringing (whether that means getting some real parenting skills or finding appropriate medication and counceling). This is the 3rd time police have been called to deal with his tantrum? That’s not normal…

Call his parents to come pick him up and not bring him back to that school or any other public school system. Let the parents deal with his behavior and not the public schools. That‘d be one less distraction in that teacher’s classroom and the other students wont‘ have to worry about whether he’ll try to beat on them or not.

Have any of you who think this is OK ever been pepper sprayed? It stings like heck, makes your eyes feel like they are on fire. Pepper spray that takes down a full size man should not be used on a child. If trained police officers can not restrain a 8 year old boy then they need more training. Having 14 years of martial arts training I can tell you this could of been handle a lot better with less pain to the child and no one getting harm. The kid has issues that he cant help and needs help, I have known people like this and hurting them doesn’t help the issue.

What’s a parent to do ? In this New World Order that we live in if a parent discipline’s a child, it’s called child abuse, if a cop does it, it’s called, “great choice” (comment by Steve Davis) “they made a great choice that day to use the pepper spray”
Had the mother done the same thing in the same situation, CPS would take her son, and she would have to spend over a year in and out of court to get her son back.
This is the New World Order folks, the GOVERNMENT has replaced the father.

This little brat wanted his way, he wanted attention, and guess what, he got it.

Its pretty obvious that his mother doesn’t have a damn clue how to discipline the kid. She probably doesn’t see the “death threats” at home because she gives in before he gets a chance to escalate it to that level. At school, the teachers aren’t allowed to discipline their students, so kids that don’t get discipline at home get to run wild at school.

I really can’t understand how a group of full-grown adults could be afraid of a 4ft tall 80 pound kid with a piece of wood trim “shank”…just grab his wrist, and give him a big swat on the butt. Then, explain to him that destroying the classroom is not acceptable, and threatening or attempting to hurt people is not acceptable either. Then parade him in front of the class and explain, calmly, to everyone that what this kid did was wrong, and then make him apologize to the whole class for disrupting their lessons. Then call the parents, and send him home for the day. Make him make up his day’s work after school later that week.

      Is it really that difficult?

If some little brat 8 year old fashioned a shank and threatened to kill me, I would laugh, pull the shank from his hand, and inform him that, in pulling the wood trim off the wall, he had chosen that as his switch…

This indignant, smug little brat says “I don’t think its every going away” with a giant grin on his face because all he did was put on a little performance, and he had an entire faculty of adults terrified, wringing their hands, calling police…the little brat has them under his spell. People watch too many horror movies. An 8 year old kid with a wood shank is not capable of hurting anyone but himself. Just kick his butt already.

I noticed there was no father in the picture, this boy needs a firm hand, consequences and a positive male role model in his life. After the story it sounds like the mother is going back to business as usual in blaming everybody except her little angel. Homeschool him instead of sending him to public school wasting the taxpayers money and robbing the productivity of the other students and teachers.

I’ll venture to make a prediction if nothing changes he will end up in jail or face down the street after a shootout with police. The kids today game the system because they know there’s little negative consequences and they are masters of playing off their parents against school staff to come out smelling like a victim!

usually if everyone leaves the room the only thing he has left to harm is himself. If no one is around it’s hard to want to stab someone. Eventually the kid is going to get hungry or tired. The kid needed a simple belt and some tough love years ago, maybe he got a taste of what he’s been missing. He is still a child. He should not have been tazered or pepper sprayed. No doubt he picked this out of control behavior up from his parent(s). However, the police should have been allowed to grab him, pull him over their knee and spanked his a** real good. The problem is schools are not allowed to spank any longer and parents do not either. Any damage he does should be brought against the parents. When he is 13 then take him to juvy and make him pay for the damages. The mom or dad may need a good a@@ spanking as well.

Aidan “was climbing the cart and spitting at teachers. He also broke wood trim off the walls and was trying to stab teachers with it.”

The little bastard should have been spanked. But we don’t do that anymore…..

I think that the teacher should have been better trained in more modern forms of discipline. For example, she could have written the little fellow’s name on the chalkboard….

What kind of a home does this child come from? Clearly, his parents aren’t doing a very good job…

I’m glad that Aiden is now in a school for children with behavioral problems… It’d be a shame to see this child lose his future to crime… He has his whole life ahead of him.

The cops were just doing as Andy Stern suggested.

“If the power of persuasion doesn’t work, we will use the persuasion of power.”

The kid needed pepper sprayed, and the mom needs tased.

8 years old, 4’ and 80 lbs. and the teachers and cops were so afraid they sprayed him? Really just because he’s a punk and will remain so, the spray is not going to change a sociopath. The real problem is with the cowards that are there to educate and protect they should be fired for complete incompetence! I have never met an 8 year old I could not restrain and I work with kids every week. And if he had been black, they would be marching in the street and writing checks!

Didn‘t see a ring on the mother’s left hand. The more important sign of the times.

I know it might seem excessive to pepper spray or taze someone, but with a law enforcement background I can tell you that they usually do no permanent damage. But grabbing a kid in full crisis, forcing him to the ground and cuffing him has much more potential for actual injury. I’ve been pepper sprayed before and it REALLY sucks for a few minutes but then wears off…

society is not out of control, the children in this society are out of control. Tazing, spanking, nor standing in a corner were not offered as choices. Of these I would choose spanking, quite possibly a green switch across the bottom for both Mom and child. Since the government wants to step in and raise children put this little imp in jail till the day he dies with this temper.

Wilma, I was a behavior specialist for emotional disturbed kids and I had to dodge chairs, threats, pencil stabbing and I was not allowed to toudh the kid but isolate him in my room and listen to such
profanity and threat of physical harm.

We are trained in a way to bring the student down without harming them but this is when they have no stick to stab us.

It was appropriate intervention as this kid needs psychiatric help and there are programs in the school system but I need to say they have backgrounds and usually do not change and are just “managed”.

We have had to pull students like this that beat on other students before the school resource officer is there.

This student is now identified and needs a behvior plan and management . I hope he gets it rather than sympathy for his Mother and him as there is a problem that needs to be addressed.

Damn that George Bush if he had properly funded childrens programs this boy wouldn’t be the victim of the goverment austerity under that nasty, nasty, big business Republican. Its only about multinational damn corporations.

America has left his sweet child behind. I hope those Damn Republicans choke on their Stock Dividends for the damage they’ve done to this Child.

Wow writing talking points for a Dem has to be one of the easiest jobs in the world.

Things like this wouldn’t happen if parents would just take the time with their children when they start acting like this and hit them.
