‘You Got a Name?’: Feisty Rick Perry Demands Politico Journalist ‘Out His Source’

Having recently published a fistful of stories that claim Gov. Rick Perry’s campaign has fallen into disarray and that his staffers are blaming one another, Politico’s Mike Allen tried to get the Texas governor to comment on the reports.

However, Allen appears to be unprepared for what happens next.

“Governor, some of your staffers have told us that you ran this as a gubernatorial campaign for too long and you didn’t look big enough, get big enough, fast enough,” said Mike Allen. “Do you take some responsibility?”

“I don‘t know who you’re talking to,” said a slightly smirking Perry, “So I can’t respond unless you give me a name.”

See the confrontation below:

“These are members of your staff,” Allen replied.

“You got a name?”

“Who say –”

“You got a name?”

[awkward silence]

“You won’t listen to –” Allen tried once again.

“You got a name?” Perry repeated.

“Uh.”

“If you don’t have a name to tell me this individual said this, then I don’t take that as a corroborating source,” Perry flatly stated.

    Way to go Perry!

I am tired of these anonymous sources of dubious credibility. This is a long practiced tactic of the media to put some unknown authoritative source out there and not back it up.

Name names. Or stay quite. Back up your acqusations.

If we were still a republic the way we are supposed to be, the press would have to be cautious about putting out lies and inuendos. I believe in the 1st amendment, but I also believe that with individual freedom, comes great responsibility. You cannot lie. I do not believe that the first amendment protects lies that damage someone. If it is a comedian and it is clear that it is a joke, so be it. But to try and hurt someone or their campaign based on a staff member’s statement without proof or a chance to face the accuser is wrong. The staffer could be disgruntled. Who knows. On another subject, Glenn Beck says we need to support Paul: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wyx9tw0TEPM

Listen to what Glenn is saying. It is better to have someone for the Constituion in office than any Progressive when the economies crash in order to save the Constitution. Better that Iran gets the bomb and save the Constitution than a Progressive being in office that will strip it completely. Just what I have been posting on several stories the last couple months. Te crash is going to happen no matter who we put in office, I want someone that will fight back to preserve the Constitution. Wake up people.

My respect-level for Perry just elevated 10-fold. These liberal press hacks want to throw out all these stories without any names, just “sources” etc. – they need to be held accountable, like Perry just did here. They use the old Nazi-style propoganda tactics of “say it enough and people think it’s true”.

Sweet request and a sweet spirit….But God has given man his agency to choose. Ultimately, man maintains a division in the selection based on selfish concerns of personal idealism and bigotry; dismisses the intelligent selection for the nation versus the “what can he do for me” candidate. It’s no different here in 2012.

It was nice to finally see a bit of backbone for Perry. I’m a Texan, but would never support his governing duplicity. He has had every opportunity to shut down the border, but uses the issue to Blame Obama… who is also equally to blame.

Perry, stop spending Texans tax payer money for your campaign. You know you won’t win, we know you won’t win. How many primaries do you have to go to before you’ve saved face with your rich benefactors, and how much is it going to cost Texans to provide travel and security in the meantime?

Best interview I have seen in long time. The interviewer had the deer in the headlights look when Perry multiple times said name your source. From my perspective, their are three choices for the nomination. And all three would have similar answers. I don’t know which one is my favorite, but, I would certainly have no reservations voting for Newt, Perry or Santorum. None of the other R candidates would have the gnads to state what Perry just did. Romney is a gift for the main stream media and the establishment Progressive GOP.

I started saying to her, “Really? I hadn’t heard that.” Takes the wind right out of her sails. The reporters tell a suspicion as fact, that they got from some source, and watch the reaction of the person they’re interviewing. I think Perry handled it great!

The “anonymous source” tactic in journalism only had credibility back in the day when journalists were considered dedicated, trustworthy news-hounds. Not only is that NOT the case in today’s obviously biased media (remember memo-gate?), but it is particularly without merit when it comes from the likes of a thoroughly-debunked propaganda source like Politico.

JLGunner, best post I have ever seen. What a concept? People of honor state things in confindence and EXPECT those whom they told it to keep it to themselves. I was not in the military. My Dad was. I learned a lot from him and I sure wish many of my colleagues would have the same respect that is taught in the military. And that is only an insight from what my father has shown me. I can’t even imagine how hard that would be to be that honorable if I were in the service.

Rick Perry is not dumb and was very wise in his answers to this incompetent—whoever he is! Incompetence seems to have infected all those who believe they are “news people” while most of them are pathetic jokes on themselves! Sadly, the MSM have become a joke on themselves and no one believes anything they say! Don’t trust anyone who says they are news people as they are no doubt not—just wannabes!

Anyone who’s ever been outdoors and seen a coyote knows they would NEVER come close to you – they run at the first sign of a human. Ole’ Rick probably kicked one of her pups and when she growled, he shot her. That’s what he is doing in this interview. He probably dress-down one of his royal subjects, and when they groused about it, he’s looking for the target. He’s not man enough to just fire her on the spot. He needs some weasely reason.

As one who, at age 14, and out riding our ranch’s fence, was jumped by a pack of 9 coyotes, know that they don’t always run the other way (of course, they might just have wanted my horse). I had to get far enough ahead of them to be able to pull out my saddle rifle, stop my horse, and bring down 8 of them. The other one decided to leave his fallen comrades (likely for me because I only had the 8 shells in the magazine).

There are too many “reporters” who make up something and demand that a candidate answer the question they pose. I agree with Perry, give me a source, and we might find that the person that provided the information might be a plant, or someone who was fired for not following the orders of the candidate.

Coyotes like other animals (bears, wolves) can lose their fear of humans. In Austin with all of the “green belts” demanded by centrally “planned communities” they have been forced to integrate with human habitation and have become used to seeing, smelling and hearing people daily and have lost their fear of humans.

Agreed. Doesn’t matter who the so-called journalist is questioning in this manner, they should all respond the same way Perry did.

Good job Rick! Every candidate needs to demand accountability like this.

Good for Perry. I wonder if Allen verified his source, if there even was one.

Governor Perry isn’t implying that a journalist might actually make something up in order to create a story is he?

I will say it right out … that is what they do … make it up and then see if they can get a “got ya” and/or make it stick. Broken record tactic .. if you say something enough people believe it.

Yup … make it up as they go … we saw it in the last election .. and then they failed to ask REAL questions of Obama.

At this rate, Howard Stern may as well be interviewing them. At least he’d ask some straight forward…

The media are the most despicable, repugnant low lifes of all the traitors in this country. They believe that they are so important and far more intelligent than the rest of us. When I am king, they will be first against the wall!
