‘You Hear That From the Glenn Beck Crowd’: NBC Reporter Says GOP Might Do Things ‘Constitutionally Afoul of the Law’ to Repeal Obamacare

Luke Russert Says Republicans Will Use Every Trick in the Book to Repeal Obamacare Like Democrats Did to Pass it

NBC News' Luke Russert

Chief Justice John Roberts’s health care ruling has led to rampant speculation about his motives, with many people questioning his conservative credentials and even calling him a traitor. MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” picked up the topic Monday and asserted that it is at least partly the “Glenn Beck crowd” that’s fueling the dissent.

(Related: CBS: Justice Roberts Switched Views to Uphold Health Care Law)

After kicking the segment off by reading a Washington Post Op-ed titled, “John Roberts’s Compromise of 2012,” NBC News reporter Luke Russert explained the idea “that Roberts was originally conservative and then was persuaded by the liberal justices to come on board and sort of chart his own course to do something that would appeal to everybody… is certainly a story that is gaining a lot of traction in D.C.”

And while GOP leadership, like House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), will not openly attack Roberts, Russert said he has spoken with some “rank-and-file people who are very displeased with them and who might come out publicly and say that this was, that he was a traitor.”

“You sort of hear that from the Glenn Beck crowd,” he added.

“He still has a crowd? I missed that one,” one of his co-panelists replied.

Luke Russert Says Republicans Will Use Every Trick in the Book to Repeal Obamacare Like Democrats Did to Pass it

Moving on, Russert went on to say that Roberts’s decision was ultimately about the “historical legacy” of the Supreme Court and that he saved the court from making a politically motivated decision on President Obama’s health care law and looking partisan.

However, even in Russert’s estimation, Obamacare is still faces the threat of repeal come November.

“There’s a chance — it’s a small chance — but it’s possible that the Republicans can get the House, the Senate and the presidency, they will repeal health care through reconciliation. They will do it. It will happen,” he said. Further, the GOP will use “every single trick in the book” to repeal the law, just as “Democrats did to pass it.”

Russert also said it wouldn’t surprise him if some Republicans did things that were seen as “constitutionally afoul of the law” to make sure Obamacare is repealed.

Luke Russert is nothing like his father. Tim Russert was a liberal but he was a fair and balanced liberal.

BTW It’s not the Glenn Beck crowd that caused speculation on Justice Roberts switching his health care opinion. It liberal CBS news :

Tim Russert was never a friend to conservatives. He was just one of the few liberal journalists who wouldn’t go as far as to trip you in the hallway and steal your lunch money. He was always a flaming liberal who didn’t mind wrecking careers, and this sour fruit of his loins, Lukey, is no different. Russert raised an idiot – an idiot with a soap box and a get-out-of-jail-free-card because his father died.

There are far too many misinformed people on both sides of the issue for there to be any meaningful discussions about it.

I didn’t click the link. Consider me too uninformed about the law.

It boils down to this: Can the government force us to buy something? If so, what else can they force us to buy? Hybrids? Cloth diapers? Gym memberships? Vegetables?

Don’t misunderstand me, I believe the Health Care/Insurance system could use a revamp, but this is not the answer.

its not that they don‘t ’have the balls” its that we generally have too much self respect and hope in America as a whole to do something so low. instead we will repeal it while following the rules the constitution gives to the letter.

What the heck is ‘Constitutionally afoul of the law’? If it is Constitutional and afoul of the law then the law is un-Constitutional and should be ignored. This is the mistake that liberals make because they don’t understand that laws must be Constitutional in order to be valid laws. I would love for him to give an example, but I assume he is going to say that they can’t repeal the tax even though the Supremes said it is a tax.

Russert only got this job because of his father‘s Tim Russert’s untimely death. He received his job out of pity, not intellect or talent. I thought he was suppose to be a reporter, not someone who speculates what will happen. I bet he is popular with the Hollywood crowd and that is all that matters.

A big part of the reason that the majority of the country doesn’t take the Tea Party seriously is because the Tea Party refuses to live in the real world. Here we are in the midst of global economic, political and ecological catastrophe and you are repeating outlandish conspiracy theories which have zero credible evidence. If you actually care about the country and have any self respect, drop this juvenile behavior and try engaging seriously in one of the many real problems we are facing rather than a made up one.

@Conservative Beckhater, I watched the video that you provided a link to and am curious about a couple of things. “When I talk God talks.” I don’t recall Glenn ever saying anything remotely close to that. “Selling FEAR for fun and profit.” How is Glenn selling fear when he sells books that quotes politicians contradicting themselves? Plus, it could be argued that many atheists sell books based off fear of religion. If you think Glenn Beck is a scam then why do you feel the need to follow his every move? I would submit that the left has been the ones selling fear for profit.
