‘You Mutilated This Woman’: Judge Hands Down Life Sentence in Savage Yoga Shop Murder

A woman convicted of killing her coworker in a brutal attack at an upscale yoga clothing store in Maryland was sentenced to spend the rest of her life in prison Friday, with the judge telling her she “exemplified the worst of human nature.”
Brittany Norwood was convicted in November of bludgeoning and stabbing Jayna Murray to death in March 2011 at the Lululemon Athletica shop where they both worked. Prosecutors said she attacked Murray with at least five weapons, including a knife, hammer and merchandise peg, during a fight after the Washington, D.C.-area store was closed.
Murray had more than 330 distinct wounds on her body, and investigators believe she was alive for the duration of the attack, the Associated Press reported. She was found in a pool of blood the next day, along with Norwood, who was tied up nearby and moaning in apparent pain with superficial wounds.
Norwood told police two intruders broke into the store and attacked both women, however investigators quickly deduced the story was a ruse to cover up the crime and that Norwood’s own wounds had been self-inflicted.
During her sentencing Friday, Montgomery County Circuit Court Judge Robert Greenberg rejected Norwood’s plea that she be left “with some hope” for freedom one day. She received life in prison without the possibility of parole.
“I am exceedingly reluctant to grant you even the slightest chance of doing this to another member of the community,” Greenberg said, according to the Bethesda Patch. “You mutilated this woman. And with every blow, you had a chance to think about what you were doing.”
Though Norwood cried during her sentencing and offered her apologies to Murray’s family, it did little to sway the judge.
Noorwood “reveled in the gore,” Greenberg said, and when she tried to cover up the crime, was “devious, in control, totally on top of the situation, while you lied to try to get out of what you had done.”
“You are one hell of a liar, ma’am,” he said, adding that a person who could commit such a crime stands “very little chance of being rehabilitated.”

Since non-police eyewitnesses clearly stated that the BART shooting was a case of accidental shooting in which a drugged out ex-con on parole was resisting arrest and the officer in question clearly stated that the suspect was grabbing for something at his waist (potentially a weapon), and was actively resisting arrest, and vocally announced his intention to use a taser to subdue the violent suspect, then accidentally used his firearm instead of his taser, and was clearly appalled at the mistake, to which the eyewitnesses attest, maybe the answer is that those of us who can think for ourselves answer, “That’s too bad. It’s a terrible accident. Resisting arrest, especially when you are ex-con on parole, is probably a bad idea. Race had absolutely nothing to do with it.” Like you, we are intelligent and realize that all of the facts in the case point to race having absolutely nothing to do with it. Since you clearly want to have an intelligent conversation, and you’re obviously not a lying race-baiter, perhaps you are just a little too smart for us – we can‘t figure out where you’re going with this. Public schools in many “blue” and border states already teach those who aren’t white they are victims and whites are oppressors. So just where does this lead ?
