Young Country Star Flubs National Anthem Before Thanksgiving Game

Lauren Alaina flubs national anthem.

Country music fans may be heartbroken to know that one of their budding stars flubbed the National Anthem on national TV before the Packers-Lions football game Thursday. Lauren Alaina, the 17-year-old American Idol runner-up, started strong. But things quickly went south during the second line of the song.

“What so proudly we hailed, through the Twi–,” she trailed off, and then took a drawn out, dramatic pause before continuing, “last gleaming.”

Still, the young woman with a strong voice seemed to hit every note, and finished to rousing applause. At the completion of the song, Fox play-by-play man Joe Buck quipped, “It’s all about how you finish.”

These little numb-minded twits that happen to have god given tone quality are disgusting, until they actually understand what they are attempting to be a part of unforgivable mistakes should end their efforts; because they did not properly define themselves before grabbing the spotlight.

For the life of me I don’t understand why these “artists” never bother to google the lyrics and practice the National Anthem before showing up. It’s not as if they were told they would sing 5 minutes before walking on the field. They had plenty of time to practice this. There’s no excuse at all.

Dear Lord, you are a unforgiving bunch. She’s 17 and singing in front of 50,000 people and made a mistake. Are you all so naive and jaded to think that she didn’t pratice prior to stepping out there? And how do you want this American Idol twit to properly define herself before singing the anthem? At what point after she has “defined” herself would you cut her a break? For all of your sake I hope you never make a mistake at work and have someone judge you so harshly. It must be nice to live perfect lives.

I’d rather hear a spoken version of it as a poem reading. If they aren’t going to sing it correctly, why don’t they add a little more bling to it and slide across a stage, and do a couple back-flips while singing it.

Watch 1:31 through 1:37 on the video, to see a football player’s reaction. His hand is hanging from his collar, not covering his heart. He looks down, and appears to stick out his tongue. This seems very disrespectful to the National Anthem, and to the American flag. To me, his behavior was much worse than Lauren flubbing the Anthem.

To be fair, I noticed that some of the other players had their hands behind their back or to their side, and/or were fidgeting. Where’s the respect? Where’s the loyalty to our country? Where’s the pride? I for one, am proud and thankful, to be an American.

I still get a tear in my eye, every time I hear the National Anthem. I know it’s very difficult to sing. It’s flubbed more often than not. I’ve so often wished our Anthem was either “God Bless America” or “America The Beautiful”. I get that same tear in my eye, when I hear these songs.

These so-called teen idols and stars are so hung up on themselves ~ that singing the Star Spangled Banner is just a way for them to show off and get attention. Our National Anthem should be sung only one way and that is “patriotically”. If the National Anthem can’t be sung patriotically ~ then it should be played instrumentally; as would John Philip Sousa.

Dear Tommyguns: I would like to respond to you; however, I suspect that there is significant age difference between us, making communication a doubtful effort. My generation was taught by educators, parents, media, most government officials — and even Hollywood — to venerate the Republic of the United States of America. We grew up loving our Republic, Constitution, Flag, and our National Motto and Anthem. The singing/playing of our Anthem was considered as an actual act of patriotism, love, and pride. Those who led us in the Anthem were carefully selected in order to ensure that it was properly and patriotically sung/played. We all stood, with hands on our hearts, tears in our eyes, and proudly, meaningfully sang along with the singer/music. But those born from 1961 (the X generation) and later have been intentionally taught by media, educators, government, etc., to disrespect God and country.

Non-revisionist history is replete with examples of countries who fail because their leaders and followers no longer respect God, country, and patriotism. To those reading this, I urge you to place a flag in your home. Exercise your right to sing the Anthem and recite the Pledge of Allegiance. If you do not show your family and friends about patriotism, who will? Certainly not leaders and educators like those in power today.

      Lord, come quickly.

Amen to the comment about the INSINCERITY of some of the players. “C’mon hurry up!! ya’ll keepin the folks from watchin ME! ” Pathetic jocks. I think she was so worried about getting the lines wrong she hesitated for that few seconds. She did okay. Better than the big names. HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO YOU ALL. God Bless and keep the faith.

Don’t blame her, the leftists probably made it illegal in her school…she probably never heard it before.

Anyone who watched her on American Idol knows that she is a very nice, very friendly, very dumb blond. Like the clueless type that giggles if she‘s asked a question and then answers with a very simple answer so this doesn’t surprise me. She is a kid though so, I’ll give her a pass.

I love this country. I just hate having to share it with people who think that their religious beliefs should be made into law.

Compassion, compassion, I’ll look that up. In the mean time, I just don’t think that a 17YO should look like a ******.

Errors of omission (like this) are easy to forgive. Errors of commission (like Roseanne Barr)…NEVER

It’s a hard song, both to sing and memorize.
She made a good stab at it.

most know it, you could tell by her posture she was way nervous…and you now she practiced before hand, and her nerves got her. Rest assured though the left will jump all over this because she is a country singer and they will assume that means she is conservative. They will probably make a big deal of it in the blogosphere because the right usually points it out when a lefty signer screws it up. Not a big deal in the grand scheme……

Extreme nervousness I’m guessing from a less than seasoned 17 year old singer. I would be more disturbed if she were on the Jimmy Fallon show and putting words to the song that was played for Michele Bachmann.

Agreed, I say leave her alone. I would never be able to muster the courage to do what she did.

LOL JL. I’ve never watched the Jimmy Fallon show before and had no idea who these nitwits were in the band. I do now (know who the nitwits in the band are that is). The crap that amuses people while they’re smoking dope just before beddy bye… lol.

      I miss Johnny Carson.

In her defense, that is easy to do. If you are not use to singing in a stadium the echo of your words come back at you and can make you forget where you are in the song. Many of seasoned singers have flubbed the National Anthem. When singing they should put ear plugs in the ears to help quell the echo.
