‘Young Guns’ Release New Book

There’s been a lot of hype the last few months over a new book by Republican Reps. Cantor, McCarthy, and Ryan. Now, it’s time to see what all the hype is about.

Young Guns: A New Generation of Conservative Leaders, a 224-page new Conservative manifesto of sorts, releases today ahead of an expected GOP takeover of the House this fall.

“The book is a serious one, offering solutions and long-term vision for Conservatives,” Brad Dayspring, the book’s publicist, told The Blaze earlier this month. The book outlines a plan for Social Security, tax cuts, and repealing Obamacare.

“America is looking for more than our grandfathers’ Republican Party,” Cantor writes. “We are a new generation of Republican leaders eager to put our past sins behind us.”

Adds McCarthy: “The party had lost its way.”

The trio of Congressman was dubbed the “young guns” back in 2007 by Fred Barnes in a Weekly Standard column. The term stuck enough to make its way on to the book cover.

That it releases today might not be a coincidence. Primaries are slated across the country, and some GOP-backed candidates need a boost.

And while some view it as good news, others aren’t convinced. According to The Hill, “Democrats will attempt to use the release of a book by House Republican leaders to make their case that Republicans want to privatize Social Security”

According to an article by the LA Times, some Republicans are skeptical too: “People aren’t thrilled with this book.” That’s from an anonymous GOP strategist. The article adds:

A year ago, the book, then under development, seemed poised to help fill a vacuum as the Republican Party emerged from its electoral defeats. Today, it is unclear whether it will help or hurt the party’s efforts to retake the House.

Dayspring couldn’t disagree more, according to comments he made to The Hill: “Democrats’ distortions are simply ludicrous. We’ve got to have a serious conversation in this country about the promises that politicians have made to people, especially those under 50.”

I’m looking forward to reading this book. Paul Ryan’s “Road Map for America” is something every conservative should study. He has a very sound plan for our country’s economic future… Oh wait, I forgot, the Republicans don’t have any alternative economic plans, we’re just the party of NO.

Paul Ryan and Eric Cantor (whom I’ve seen speak on television quite often) are two Washington politicians with the fewest signs of affectations I’ve ever seen. Paul Ryan has demonstrated his knowledge of economics and should be listened to. This country needs conservative voices to enhance the intellectual perspective for the “debate” on how we can best move forward because I don‘t think we’ve actually reached the “bottom” of this economic meltdown…a statement of the obvious…I know.

Read the book before you criticize the ideas. The Dems keep saying we are the party of no. We have no ideas. Well, someone has to come up with the ideas. At least now, some are in writing. Watch them tear their ideas apart then lay claim to them, like Obama’s tax cuts. Yah right! what a joker he is.

Ryan is a great face for the Rep. party. People get their panties in a bunch whenever you mention Social Security. Right now people 50 and under are paying money into a system that they will never benefit from. There is no money in the fund, only govt. i.o.u.’s. The govt. has spent it, which they had no right doing. By privatizing S.S. (not putting it into the market, but into people’s pockets or funds that they could use to invest themselves, at least gives them control over their contributions. Seniors need to be convinced that those 65 and older will not be dropped from S.S. they will just die out of the system. Those with real disabilities will be covered under Medicaid. I say we need a combination of Christie (N.J.) and Ryan. Brawn and Brains. Marco Rubio is also an up and coming Repub.

More of the same from both parties sure is not doing us any good.

Look, we need research and a thourough examination of what these gentlemen stand for. Nothing can be taken on face value at this point, there is too much at stake. We need to know with whom we are dealing. I’m too old, and jaded, to accept things at face value.

HANOVERTEA: I have to agree with you. The young republicans may be smart enough to write a fancy book telling us what we want to hear and making a cool video, website or news story thats flashy. We really need to believe in our leaders today. It may take a “cleaning house” to get the right people in office who can take this country back. But, we’re still listening boys. We’ll give you that.

Just a word of caution. Eric Cantor has been in Congress for a DECADE. He is virtually non responsive to us, the people he represents. He has refused, to the best of my knowledge, to be accessible to the ever growing TEA party movement in this area. RINO or Young Gun (at 47)? We will spend the next couple of years deciding IF and When he should stay or go. My opinion.

Just as there has been a battle for the soul of the Democratic Party (unfortunately I think the fight is over and the Progressives/Socialists have won) there is also a battle for the soul of the Republican Party and the Conservatives finally seem ready to get serious about winning that battle. The last best hope to keep the Repubs from going the way of the Dems are these young conservatives who know what they stand for. Let’s hope the November elections add more to their numbers. Maybe, just maybe, the “conservative wing” of the party will actually become the base and there will finally be a distinction again between the two parties!

The major difference between freedom (capitalism) and tyranny (communism, fascism, socialism, Monarchies and the Tribal Chief-Witch Doctor form of government) is the deployment of capital. The entrepreneur invests with the objective of creating wealth (making a profit). The tyrants (“Wannabe Peers”) expend wealth with the objective of obtaining political support, punishing descent and rewarding cronies. Any evaluation of the “earmarks” passed by Congress proves this statement. In effect, the “Financial Reform Bill” converts the wealth of our nation into a gigantic campaign fund and gives these “Wannabe Peers” almost total control over the deployment of capital.

This wholesale squandering of wealth will soon produce the economic crisis that will write the obituary for the American Revolution. The return to the tyranny of King George III is eminent, under new management, of course.

Perhaps, the most disturbing part of the passage of the “Financial Reform Bill” is the totally inept campaign to prevent its passage.

It is no longer enough to stop the usurping of our freedom; the trend must be reversed if we are to avoid a return to the “Middle Ages.”

Here’s some ammo for conservatives — even the quasi-Communist government of Sweden realized they were going to have to partially privatize their national pension fund and did so in the 90′s. Ask your liberal friends to look up the phrase Guaranteed Minimum Return with means you CANNOT LOSE MONEY. Annuities which promise such returns have been around since the 30′s and they are some of teh safest investments you can make. Compare that to Social Security — a huge pile of cash Congress has pilfered for over 40 years. Which is the least risky investment?

People need to know the truth even though they want to hear a lie. We need true leadership who is not afraid to tell people their entitlements will be cut.

Nothing will change unless people can hear and accept real truth.

Somehow it never registered until today that disability pay (which has increased drastically in the last few years) came out of Social Security. Don’t how I missed that, but it sure underscores the fact that Social Security is bust- how it is different from a Ponzi scheme I can’t figure out!

The Democrats continue to grasp at straws to save their sorry and unpopular agenda. This country and its citizens will benefit far more from the younger Repbulican’s ideas to save this country. Why is privatizing a portion of SS so bad? There will be nothing left for the younger generations if something is not done to secure their future. The Democrats think the American Public is too stupid to do for themselves. They are sadly mistaken, and as a result, they are going down like the Titanic.
