Young Madison Socialist Reveals Popular ‘Noodles & Company‘ Restaurant Is Actually Harsh ’Dictatorship’

Don’t be deceived. Noodles & Company may look like a friendly neighborhood “fast casual” restaurant, but there is something much more sinister going on.

Young Madison Socialist Reveals Popular Noodles & Company Restaurant Is Actually Harsh Dictatorship

Their menu items look tempting.  The Bangkok Curry might be a good choice:

Young Madison Socialist Reveals Popular Noodles & Company Restaurant Is Actually Harsh Dictatorship

The nationwide chain has several locations in Madison, Wisconsin.  One young socialist, Rob Lewis, who is involved in the protests around Madison is now blowing the lid off the real story.

The videomaker notes:

Aaron Kennedy, the founder of Noodles, grew up on a farm with few to no connections to money. Like my friend Rob, Kennedy also studied at the University of Wisconsin. At 29, while eating at a Chinese restaurant, Kennedy had an idea, and scribbled his business plan on a napkin.

Scraping some money together from his friends and family and maxing out eight credit cards, Kennedy opened the first Noodles in his basement, and then put together a team with whom he’d build and operate 100 Noodles branches all on their own. It is now a $75 million franchise with 240 locations in 18 different states, providing jobs to over 3,000 employees just like Rob. This is what the American Dream looks like.

Under Lewis’ vision, however everything Kennedy has worked for would be taken away from him. The status he has earned for himself through his achievements would be reduced to that of one filling out an application for the very business he built from the ground up. Perhaps my imagination is limited, but I at the moment I cannot imagine a greater humiliation. This is what socialism looks like.

The discussion of the workplace horror at Noodles begins at 3:38 in the following clip.

Then everything will be subpar and 3rd worldish. You socialist are even sicker and evil than I ever imagined. A cathartic experience for me as well.

I’ve tried arguing with these types before….they don’t get it and never will. They are literally mentally ill. You can have them agreeing to and seeing everything you say as fact, but the next day they are right back where they started but refuses to discuss it further. You’re just wrong…they don’t know why…but you are…they just know it. Years later you find them on welfare, unable to find anyone who will hire them for longer than a few weeks or in jail for one reason or another.

Cathairball: commerce involves three agents of production: labor, capital, and entreprenuerial coordination. The capitalist employer provides two of those agents (in a small business more frequently all three), and assumes all of the risk of the venture. Who you describe as a thief I consider to be a hero.

Yeah, a group of socialists running a restaurant, exercising their own free will, unconstrained by rules laid down by some dictatorial “owner.” They can all cook what they want and then when their customers show their preference for one cook over another, which could only happen because of unfair advantage to be sure, then that cook can just work more, for the general success and welfare of all the “workers,” involved, and split the profits equally with all of them.. Even the ones that can’t cook worth a damn and have no customers, because ability and hard work are an unfair advantage..

A thought just popped into my coffee starved brain. In this country we do have tiny examples of functioning collectivist type businesses. They are called co-op’s. By doing business with one, I become a partial owner and every year I begin to recieve patronage(a check) if a profit was realized. For the long term I also recieve shares of stock which increases my stake in the business doing well. Because I now feel empowered by my ownership, I do more business with the co-op increasing my patronage and my ownership……Just like a perfectly running socialist system right?? Oh wait….socialism fails everywhere it is tried. Oh well, I love my co-op! I guess it isn’t like socialism after all.

KENINIL said: “So what is preventing him from getting a group of socialists together and starting a restaurant?”

      Well…let’s see.
First: someone would have to organize a meeting so they could all give their input. That would mean someone had to be “in charge”, and socialists don’t believe in anyone being in charge.
Second: There would have to be investment money presented in order to purchase the items needed to run a business, and socialists don’t have any money because the capitalists have it all. Not to mention they couldn‘t purchase anything for their restaurant that isn’t owned by every other restaurant.
Third: It’s really, REALLY, hard to run a restaurant all the “partners” (“makers”) come and go as they please and serve whatever they want to, when they want to serve it. Customers-even Socialist ones I assume-kind of like to know what is on the menu, when it’s available, and expect it to be served to them in an expedient manner in exchange for their money. It’s also impossible currently to grow food, cook food, eat food, or serve food without impacting the environment in at least one or two non-harmonious ways.

I’d love to ask Catharsis about something he/’she said. “Under communism, the whole of society will be the “owners” of the means of production, and will produce in the interests of all people in harmony with the environment. ”

*What happens when “the whole of society” refuses to participate in the “production”? Do they still get to benefit just like the “owners” who are doing all the work? Or will they only get the “crumbs” left over after the active owners have equally distributed everything else? (evil!) Or do you just kill them off/let them starve/or ignore them? If I don’t have to do any of the “work” but still get paid as an “owner” count me in! If I DO have to work then:

*What if I don’t want to be an “owner” of the means of production? Will I be FORCED to own stuff I don’t want to own? Will I be forced to “produce” in a job/field I don’t want to work in?

*What happens when “the whole of society” cannot produce “in the interests of all people”? If no one is “in charge”-then who determines whether my interests are being met or not met?

*Define what “in harmony with the environment” means. Just exactly what can “the whole of society produce” without affecting the environment? There could be no factories. No buildings. No breathing. No farming. No eating. No population growth. ALL of those things have a negative “affect on the environment”.

But then again, in the world you envision, bunny rabbits poop chocolate drops and leafy trees grow lollipops, and we all dance around in flowing clothing playing our lutes from dusk until dawn.

      To 338LAPUA-

You are correct. It isn’t like socialism at all….which is why it works.

“Cooperative: a jointly owned commercial enterprise (usually organized by farmers or consumers) that produces and distributes goods and services and is run for the benefit of its owners”

Sounds an awful lot like CAPITALISM to me hon.
“Capitalism: an economic system whereby goods and services are exchanged on a for-profit basis”

“By doing business with one, I become a partial owner and every year I begin to recieve patronage(a check) if a profit was realized. For the long term I also recieve shares of stock which increases my stake in the business doing well. Because I now feel empowered by my ownership, I do more business with the co-op increasing my patronage and my ownership”

Yep. Definitely the description of “investing” in a “for profit” business. What you keep calling “patronage” and profit-most people refer to as CAPITAL. And the more CAPITAL you collect, and reinvest, and the more shares of stock you obtain-the more of a CAPITALIST you are. :)

Many are good young people, with specific skills, but precious few have the ability to communicate well. They do not think critically, because they do not think much at all, and they state as much – that thinking about things tires them and that they have chosen not to participate in our democratic way of life, because it upsets them. I think that many never learned that all of life is hard and that it requires constant effort.

To repost a simple concept: Socialists want to create fewer takers by eliminating the social parasitic layer that just usurps everyones wealth and sits on it, creating financial catastrophes with their criminal games on wall street. Socialists want to create a society where everyone is a maker, and equally shares in the product of their social wealth, according to a democratic plan they have decided on themselves.

Socialism is not equal to welfare. Socialism is workers’ democratic self control of the economy.

I say we all go to work for that crappy ISR magazine and when they don’t let us publish whatever articles we want, we unionize, take control from the ISR masters and burn the whole thing to the ground.

You gotta love his ideas for Noodles though… every employee gets to cook whatever they want? That sounds like heaven for a minimum wage employee but that’s not really what happens, in the end… once the workers take over, then the most powerful of the workers gets voted as their leader, who looks a lot like the old boss… It all works fine as long as people are eating there. But the liberated employees only “choose” to cook Ramen noodles and they “voted” for $100k salaries, so suddenly the business starts to fail. It then either goes one of two ways:

      1) they all go home and get new jobs and try the same stupid thing all over again (cause they don’t learn from history) or

      2) The new boss doesn’t want the business to close because he likes his new found power, so when implements reforms and a few of the employees start to object… “hey, I dont want to work hard.. ” WHACK! the newly appointed enforcers take them out to ensure that all the other workers just do what they’re told. Its time to work for the common good, and the common good is better served by employees that just shut up and cook Noodles the way the boss says! In fact, its even better if the new slaves make noodles 16 hours a day and no pay – for the Common Good! Welcome to Socialism. Then when it is finally burned to the ground some day, the ones left alive all go home and get new jobs and try the same stupid thing all over again (cause they don’t learn from history)

Under capitalism, society is governed by a handful of rich elites who exploit the working class in order to extract profits. They are not concerned with what or how they produce commodities, as long as these bring them a profit. They have developed the state – bodies of armed men; the laws, courts, prisons, military, police – in order to preserve their privileged position. Under communism, the whole of society will be the “owners” of the means of production, and will produce in the interests of all people in harmony with the environment. Unchecked capitalism, or laissez faire, is inherently unsustainable and will ultimately lead to the exploitation of the working class.

The modern working class are the ones who really run the factories and businesses on a day to day basis, they are the ones who produce the wealth of society collectively. Yet they do not really share in the reward for their efforts. Sure they may receive a few crumbs in the form of bonuses and minor raises, but this is nothing compared to the ‘bonuses’ the capitalists get (it is not uncommon for corporate CEOs to get multi-million dollar ‘Christmas bonuses’!). What is needed is for this wealth to be distributed among those who actually produce it.

      To repost a simple concept:
      Workers are the employed.
There are union workers and non-union workers.
Unions have no business in government, fire departments, or police departments because they are paid with taxpayers’ dollars and have protections under the merit or civil service.
The socialists ARE the takers via unions and union dues. The union members’ pensions are bankrupting America; union members are all about money, and the union leaders are about nothing but money and control.
Capitalism is about starting a business, hiring people (creating jobs), selling the product, making a profit, returning the profits to the business to expand or improve the operation of the business and create more jobs.
Governments cannot fuel the economy because government does not make a product.

Go peddle your propaganda somewhere else. We don’t buy your Progressive crap.

Hahahahahaha… Oh wait, you’re serious, let me laugh harder. HAHAHAHAHAHA

No, capitalism is based on the laws of supply and demand. The less of a supply, or the more of the demand, will cause the price will increase. The more supply, or less demand, the price will decrease. It has nothing to do with ever expanding markets. Frankly the government has screwed the free market and capitalism by keeping companies that should have failed afloat.

People learn more from their failures than their successes. When the government refuses to let people fail, they are keeping them ignorant.

That’s why socialism is so attractive to these people..they can get what they need, and want, without working for it, because the government is supposed to make sure everyone has the same things. That includes the person who busts their butt on the job and the loafer who does nothing. The lowly fry cook shouldn’t be making the business decisions for a restuarant. Other than being professional bums, some of them on the dole of the public nickle as ‘professor-bums”, professing to rail against a system they don’t contribute to anyway, what do they DO? What do they envision, design, mine, acquire, smelt, fabricate, assemble, QC, sell, distribute, account for, pay taxes ON? Is utopia like the former Soviet Union, where non-producing men drink for a living and long for capitalism and capitalists to bring purpose and opportunity? Socialism seems like a stupid roundabout way to teach people the lessons that socialism is a failed experiment in how to teach people to do nothing other than want to return to capitalism and have the opportunity to be capitalists. Of course, if getting high and playing the bongos is what you really want to do, socialism can bring an unemployed and bored audience to your sit in and maybe they’ll barter something with you for your CD/Weed/T-shirt, but that’s about all I can see as a benefit of socialism. Party-ON, Socialist Party! Here’s MY t-shirt idea- “I bought weed at the socialist rally with dollars I earned in my capitalist career.”

You don’t ever want the opportunity to work hard and be rewarded for hard work by making more money? How about you have a really great idea that could make you alot of money and you could help alot of people who truly need it with that money – are you going to give the idea to the government and allow them to make all the money and maybe, or maybe not, they will help the people you wanted to help. Obviously all you blazers are just arguing with known facts about what CATHARSIS has stated. America, as a capitalistic country, has been the greatest nation in the history of human kind with the highest standard of living that has ever existed. A nation that has produced more charity for other countries including sometimes its enemies than any other in human history. Has beat back communism, fascism, and tyranny with the blood of her sons and then rebuilt the countries she defeated, and has produced more freedom for more people on the globe than all other nations before her combined. It has produced the greatest health care system in human history. Fed itself and most of the world. Provided the most free and liberty rich country with the most representative government that man has ever conceived. So I ask all you conservative blazers on here……How is it that you cannot see America needs to become socialistic/communistic? It seems pretty obvious to me. (sarcasm added for emphasis)

Using your definition of “socialism” there will be no “everyone else’s“ wealth for the the ”elites”, that group the majority of “workers” decide to vilify and demonize, to take and “sit on”. In your world, there are no individual or private property rights. Everything, including the clothes on your back belongs to that mysterious invisible all powerful group called “the workers”. And once the first group of “elites” are destroyed, that all powerful group called “the workers” will then turn on the
next “evil” group, always an easily identified minority, to destroy, and then the next and the next until “utopia” is reached.

Without exception, without one exception, every utopian “socialist” experiment ended with a brutal dictatorship stepping forward to end the chaos. And that is when “Catharsis’ and like minded find out who this “mysterious invisible all powerful” group called the “the workers” really was and the definition of “utopia”.

In the poorest of nations, from Ethiopia to Nepal, the one constant is the lack of individual or personal property rights, without exception.

Profit is a far more tolerable motivation than raw uncontrolled power. With the capitolistic model, sure you have little fifedoms created by entreprenuers, and if they are extremely successful they become or are absorbed by larger more powerful fifedoms. But their motive is still profit, and our stength as individuals is what fuels their sucess.

Now compare that to the motive of the government class. It seeks to govern, and its sucess is predicated on its power over its governed. The weakness of the individual is the ultimate sucess of the government class, since power, much more so than profits is a finite commodity.

Every relationship is ultimately defined by control. Whom does the individual have more power with, faceless nameless corporations that we can choose to work for or buy from, or to not, or with a government, that provides no option to choose another government.

Socialism is a power mechanism, and its power comes at the expense of its governed, this has been proven time and time again throughout the world, and throughtout history.

Our failure with capitolism is not a result of capitolism, rather the perverted alliance between the corporate class and the governing class. This perversion has been made more and more powerful and the power of the ruling class has been expanded, expanded I might add by the ruling class itself as it expands its influence to a wider and wider representation among the citizenry.

Chief among those perversions is the Federal Reserve. Unlike most of corporate America, the banking class has the ability to steer public policy to its own self interest and at a great expense to the citizenry. The Fed empowering a deficit model for governance most of all benefits the banking industry.

That aside, the lack of contraint and limits on government, the insane concept of granting constitutional rights of collectives such as corporations and unions, the obscene levels of capitol required to have a reasonable chance of victory in the election process all collude to create an unhealthy, even unholy alliance betweem capitolists and the governing class.

Those areas are what we as a nation should be debating and not this stupid idea about a failed philosphy such as socialism, that has ended in nothing but REAL oppresion and evil for its citizens.

These people are wasting their own time. Jumping on the band wagon. This could be good because after the Islamic jihadist‘s use the unions and these groups to establish power they’ll probably be the first ones called infidels and dealt with. While, us the Tea Party and freedom fighters are fighting for our freedom. The honorable way. He says capitalism is destroying the Earth. Hmmm? Isn’t burning cars and creating violence harm it at a faster rate. Irrational people are not in control of their emotions.

We should start a project and raise funds for this idea. Offer to pay for the plane tickets and moving costs for socialists and progressives to leave the USA and relocate to the socialist nation of their choice. The one condition would be that they can never come back to the United States. Would there be any takers?

You know, guys, I was listening to Glenn on the radio this morning and (if you also heard) he had a female caller who was delighted to hear him say that (paraphrasing) ‘when you don’t get along with someone, if you disagree with them, if you don’t like them – you should still treat them with love and show them that you care’.

I was delighted to hear hiM say that – but less than 5 minutes later here was dear Glenn, slamming someone of a different faith – and this ‘Noodle guy’. It wasn’t very nice language – ending with a suggestion that these ‘opponents’ os his should be ‘SHOT IN THE HEAD’!

WHY DOESN’T GLENN PRACTICE WHAT HE PREACHES??

I like Glenn, but notice a lot of hypocrisy myself… but I guess it’s just human nature. We all do it.

For instance, he mocked people who believed in Genies. That’s pretty rich coming from someone whose religion was literally pulled out of a hat. And considering that all religions, even atheism are equally absurd when you think about it. Every explanation is a fantastical paradox that relies on the same excuse in the end.

Yes, he has a lot of emotion based bias that’s for sure.

You and your commie friends should take your so loved socialist President and go live in an actual communist country like Cuba (which you love so much), China, Russia, or North Korea (Lol). You have no idea what your talking about as Capitalism has made this country great. Socialism has destroyed cities in America such as Detroit. Socialism hasn’t worked in the past such as when the pilgrims first arrived in the Americas. Socialism begets mass murders by corrupt people in power such as the leaders of Unions. The second biggest murderer in history Stalin once called people like you useful idiots which is exactley what you are.

      PS:

In case you didn’t know the first biggest murderer in history was Mao, another Communist. Go figure. Care to argue with that Mr. Catharsis

      @OneFootRandy,

“Profit is a far more tolerable motivation than raw uncontrolled power.”

This is true as far as it goes; but profit is the only beneficent motive for trading in the first place, in a free society. There‘s no reason to trade if you’re going to get either less or equal than what it cost you to produce something.

Bear in mind that labor is not the only factor in the cost of goods, but also utility – which is why someone who supplies, say, berries for dyes, is going to be paid different than someone who grows them for food. Same labor cost (for the sake of argument, not accounting for capital in berry production), but because of the value added to something else that uses dyes, the dyed product sells for more, and both the supplying dye maker and supplying berry maker can command a higher price.

      Catharsis,

Workers who want to build something should risk all that they have and start their own business, and fend for themselves, everyone in business for themselves, what socialism wants is to rob those who successfully build abusiness and redistribute it to the workers who in theory will work eagerly because they have a stake in the game… in reality history has shown us that when these concepts have been put to action, the workers figured out that regardless of how little they worked they still got paid the same… regardless of what crappy product they produced they still had a job and benefits (oh my God I think there is something going on in WI similar to this)…

Socialism IS SOCIAL WELFARE, because a socialist based economy hasn’t been able to produce quality and quantities to sustain a business without government intervention and funding.

Wow, obviously, this kid doesn’t know how to cook or even have a passing acquaintance with the basic science of cooking. There is a reason that a cook follows a recipe – it’s called reliable results. Once a person had made a dish a number of times, then one can experiment, but usually when recipes that people like change, there’s a fuss. Remember the Coke Classic uproar?

If you are going to run a restaurant, the cooks, sous chefs and wait staff have to be there at a certain time in order to have the food ready when the customers come. “Oh, hey, man, I’m sorry we were three hours late opening and you had reservations at 7. We all were at a party last night and the munchies were really, really good, so we got really wasted. Ya know how it is. Maybe we can get you a plate of scramble eggs or something.”

Can you just imagine going to a restaurant because the last time you were there they had fabulous burgers and after you ordered a burger, you were served a plate of spaghetti? “Well, dude, you see the cook in the kitchen wasn’t into burgers tonight. We decided we’re serving spaghetti. If you don’t like it, lump it.” (Feel free to insert your favorite colorful phrases in that little monologue.) Would you go back there?

There are communal restaurants. Moosewood was run by cooperative for a long time and one of our local restaurants was cooperative the last time I was there a long time ago. But sooner or later someone has to take charge. Someone has to order the supplies, pay the bills, etc.

The interesting thing to me is that he started out his statement by saying that there are only two scenarios in the world, work for yourself or work for someone else. Obviously, he’s unhappy working for someone else. So, it sounds like it’s time for him to work for himself. He’ll find out what fun it is. No paid vacations, no health care provided, no paid holidays, and you work until the job is done. No one gives you customers and if whatever you are offering doesn’t fly, well, then, welcome to bankruptcy court.

When a person has developed a business that employs others, things change. IRAs, health care, unpaid leave, OSHA, taxes, withholding and tons and tons of federal forms.

The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence, and he’s welcomed to try his cooperative ideas as a new business owner in the free market. It’ll be interesting to see what happens.

Not to bash any further on socialist, it’s just too freakin easy, but they just don’t get it. The masses don’t create, they consume, they survive, they adapt, but it is the individual who wields the power of imagination and intelligence to change the world. The workers, the proletariat, the masses, whatever the monkey brained offspring of marx call themselves, exist to consume while the individuals exist to create.

Case and point, you put 100 of the basic workers at Noodles and company together without any instructions to follow and they wouldn’t be able to replicate or improve on the existing recipes. Or if you prefer, look at what happened to food production in Africa after the Colonial powers bugged out.

It’s quite simple. The socialist looks at his neighbor and says: “No man should have so much.”

The capitalist looks at his neighbor and says: “Every man should have as much.”

The socialist is the crab at the bottom of the bucket pulling all the crabs climbing out back down. The capitalist is the mountain climber holding the rope so those below him can scale the cliff.

Learn it and you’ll be a happier, freer and more prosperous person.

Business owners do not create jobs–they rent their money to business run by managers, executives and workers who do the real work. Like feudal lords these capitalists extort rent from their title, except their title isn’t to land, but the even more abstract commodity, capital. And given that the very existence of capital is contingent upon the existence of social structure and the enforcement of a political and economic order by the government, the self-righteous claim to sole responsibility for ones position and wealth, and ones inherently just entitlement to it, is not substantiated by the empirical division of the work to create and protect rights and opportunities.

The young man realizes his inability to create a business. Unlike his boss, who left his boss, this guy can only take, he cannot build. That always seems the way with communists/socialists. Cuba has wall to wall 56 Chevy’s but cannot/will not make a car. They take over what FREE people have made, wring every bit of wealth they can and then let it crumble. It crumbles because they cannot invent, build, develop. Look at China once people were allowed to own ! The Chinese didn’t have some special school, diet etc. No people were allowed to dream, to build, they get rich, many employees get wealth. Then the rest of the employees get a wage, some will be happy with that, others will want more. Those people will build and create, get rich etc etc. In a free society, the story repeats over and over …in FREE societies, never in a closed one. This guy either grows up and makes something or he just ****** and moans, never improves his lot and grows into a bitter man who blames a system that allows success and failure.

      1. Were you innocently walking down the street when the dictator, Mr. Kennedy, came running out of the restaurant armed with a gun and forced you inside to fill out the application form?
      2. Does Mr. Kennedy come to your residence daily and goose step march you to Noodles and then stand over you and force you to work?
      3. Has he threatened you or your family with violence if you do not continue to work there?

      5. Would you prefer that Mr. Kennedy just give you a paycheck for NOT working there?
