Video of what some are calling the greatest trick play ever has taken off on the internet. Now the quarterback and the coach are explaining exactly how they set up their football tomfoolery. It’s actually quite intricate:

Posted on November 9, 2010 at 6:05pmI remember the first time I saw a runner carrying the ball hurdle a tackler. The announcer said”He can’t do that, it’s illegal. ” Why it had never been done before, I have no idea.

Posted on November 9, 2010 at 3:35pmFootball is like combat. You always have to keep your eyes open and play attention to detail. Now, imagine the outrage if one of the defense had sacked the QB? The fans in the stands probably would have booed rather than cheered.

Posted on November 10, 2010 at 3:20pmIf anybody had hit this quarterback while he was pretending to take the ball to the official to have it respotted you can guarantee they would have been flagged for a personal foul. This play was illegal and the team on defense in the clip was awarded the victory in the game as a result.

Posted on November 9, 2010 at 12:42pmThere was no lie or deception in this play. None. The center ‘hiked’ the ball to quarterback as in every other play they ran that day. When the line is set, and the center’s hand is on top of the ball, everything afterwards is live. The moment the center moves the ball to the quarterback, in any fasion, the entire defensive line should be in motion. There was no ‘deception’ in this play, just incredibly horrible defensive. For no player to move when the center brings the ball off the field is simply inexcusable.

Posted on November 9, 2010 at 12:47pmThe coach yelled from the sideline that the ball was at the wrong position – that’s a lie!!! The people defending the actions of this coach are as much to blame for the downfall of America as Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi. It’s not okay to teach children that lying and cheating are acceptable – PERIOD!

Posted on November 9, 2010 at 12:52pmWatched the clip again. The offensive line is clearly set with the center clearly holding the ball. The refs are in position, so the play is clearly live. When the center clearly lifts the ball from the ground and hands it to the quarterback, it is simply mindboggling that neither of the linebackers, with a clear shot at the QB, makes no move. Whoever is coaching that defense really needs to evaluate if they are the right person for the job.

Posted on November 9, 2010 at 1:41pmDon’t equate this coach to Obama and Pelosi. The Defense are the ones that are ignorant to the rules. If we are doing any comparing to anyone, the Defense is low-class uneducated one and you, LTB, are Obama trying to protect the uneducated from loosing. The game of football is all about some sort of deception, the defense didn’t do its job of not letting the ball move forward.

Posted on November 9, 2010 at 3:15pmWildJoker5 and Nepenthe, I am going to repeat myself one more time, in hopes that it will sink into your brains why this was wrong… The coach yelled to the quarterback to go get the ref, because the ball was on the wrong yard line (a lie). I couldn’t care less if this was a legal play, it was wrong and the coach is a liar who is setting a bad example for the players.
The problem with so many Americans today is that they think just because something isn’t illegal it’s okay. We used to have something called “ethics” in this country, which were rules of common decency and courtesy, that allowed people to make million dollar deals with just a handshake. Do you think I’m going to make a million dollar deal with a handshake of the father who teaches his son that it’s okay to lie and cheat during a football game? We’ve become a nation of liars who need corrupt attorneys to draw up Incomprehensible contracts to protect ourselves from sneaky, underhanded tricks of people who skirt the law in order to get what they want. Like I said, little liars grow up to be big liars.
“Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.” (Luke 16:10)

Posted on November 9, 2010 at 9:52pmLTB, since you want to pull bible out to quote it, lets go with anything that is not the full truth is a lie. So anyone who has ever played football is a liar. You telling me it is ok for the QB to lie about handing the ball to a RB? Or a RB faking like he is going to run the ball just so he can pitch it back to the QB to throw down the field? Maybe you can get it that football is 90% deception. The cheerleaders on the sideline are not there just to get the crowd riled up, they are there to possibly distract the other team. The fans with bull horns or screaming really loud to keep the other team from hearing the snap count is deception. The kids on defense were not coached well enough to know this was a live play. I knew all of these plays when I was playing, I would have loved this QB to try that play against us, I was educated enough that I would have destroyed him just walking with the ball. You seem to want to keep the people that are uneducated from getting hurt, you are the liberal thought process. You make them feel it is ok to not know anything, big government is here to protect you from people that know how to get a head in life legally.

Posted on November 9, 2010 at 12:23pmThose of you moaning about how this is teaching the kids to decieve have never played football. Almost every pass play starts with at least one fake handoff (deception?). Have you ever seen a reverse play run or how about the deceptive – fake reverse? Even a screen pass is deceptive because you let the line through so they can’t stop the short pass. Or the infamous flea-flicker for that matter. It’s all about misdirection & trying to outsmart the other team. This was just slightly more complicated than most misdirections. Besides, like most trick plays – they either work or they don‘t but you only get one shot because once it’s shown, it’s pretty hard to pull it off again.

Posted on November 9, 2010 at 12:38pmNathanM, I wouldn’t want you working for my company either. There is a huge difference between a fake handoff and the coach yelling from the sidelines “Hey Billy, the ball is at the wrong position, go get the ref!” If you can’t understand why there is a difference, I’m not going to explain it to you. The fact that children are being taught that dirty tricks like this are okay is why we have a lying thief in the White House and why our economy was run into the ground by lying thieves on Wall Street. Little liars grow up to be big liars.

Posted on November 9, 2010 at 10:31amThey didnt lie or cheat in that play. Playing football is more than just brute force. It takes coaches who can come up with a play to OUTSMART the other side and that is excatly what this coach did. Its fabulause! Good Job!
Best of all, contrary to others posters, it IS legal!
Report Post »ltb
Posted on November 9, 2010 at 12:09pmThey cheated. The fact that the coach yelled to the player and tricked the other team into thinking that the ball was at the wrong position (a lie) made it sleazy and underhanded. What exactly is this coach teaching those kids? He‘s teaching them that it’s okay to lie and deceive other people if it helps you get what you want, which is liberalism in a nutshell. There’s nothing brilliant, and certainly nothing honorable, about that play and the parents of the players should demand that the coach apologize to the other team and then forfeit the game.

Posted on November 9, 2010 at 12:15pmPS KEA: I would not want someone like you working for my company, because the fact that you can’t see anything wrong with what this coach did reveals a lot about your character.

Posted on November 9, 2010 at 9:24amI watched the trick play where the center yells out “Coach wrong ball” then the coach holding up a ball while the QB walked to the sidelines. As he got into open area, the QB ran for a TD. Now THAT is deception. I can understand that. When they use words and actions between the coach and the players, I would call that deception.
This play shown in these clips recently, I don’t see where the deception really is. The center did a side snap and the Offense just doesn’t react while the QB just casually walks across the line of schrimage. Is it the QB‘s fault that the defense didn’t react to this? The QB technically called the snap, the center snapped it and the QB made his way to the end zone at whatever pace he saw fit. I honestly don’t see the deception outside of it being a “trick” none traditional play call.

Posted on November 9, 2010 at 9:03amI’ve never seen a center hike the ball over his shoulder. Is that legal?
Report Post »Rogue
Posted on November 9, 2010 at 10:03amYep, perfectly legal. The ball doesn’t have to pass through your legs – if you are the center, you can either snap it between your legs or do what they did – a side snap. Now the center can’t carry the ball anywhere to hand it off is the only rule. from the spot it is placed on the ground, the exchange of the ball to another player starts the play, and it is supposed to be a single fluid motion with the ball. He can’t pick up the ball, hold it for a second, then hand it to the quarterback.
Now if you were in Canada, then yes – the rule is it must be snapped between the center’s legs.
Or if you were in Iran, this is not allowed, and the penalty is death by stoning.
Report Post »Rowgue
Posted on November 9, 2010 at 1:38pmOnly Canadian football has a rule that makes it mandatory to snap it between your legs. The play was illegal however.
A snap must be a “quick and continuous motion”. This was anything but that, which is why nobody on the defense reacted. You are also not allowed to atttempt to trick the opposing team into thinking that the play hasn’t started yet. That was the clear intention here. The interview just makes it more damning. They readily admit that they were talking about a penalty and walking off another five yards. Two clear violations of the rules, which is why the other team was awarded the victory.

Posted on November 9, 2010 at 10:55amFootball uses sneaks & tricks all the time. Some are significantly more “trickier” than others, but that doesn’t make that a cheap play. It simply means the defense should have been doint what coaches are always telling them to which is to always watch the ball & pay attention to the quarterback. I remember neon Deion Sanders with the Atlanta Falcons received the ball on a kick off, acted as though he was kneeling but not actually touching the ground with any portion of the leg. The refs never blew the whistle to stop the play, but the defense basically stopped after a few seconds assuming the play to be dead. Then all of a sudden Deion Sanders took off like a bolt of lightning for a touch down of almost the entire length of the field! Trick plays are nothing new. Just because they are seldom used and thus very effective when used doesn’t negate their legality or place in a game. Also, I think it’s just stupid to pair this type of play with the radical left. Let sports be sports and politcs be politics comrads!
