‘Your Brain Isn’t Ready for This’ Face Melding Animation

Watching this rippling video of face melding into face can be both hypnotizing and dizzying. Created by animator and web designer Micaël Reynaud, “amalgamation” is composed of photographs by Michael Jang’s “Summer Weather”, which was shot in 1983.
Watch the mesmerizing 1:24 minute video and try to hold out toward the end where the animation gets calmer:
The Daily Mail has more on what has quickly become a viral sensation:
Mr Reynaud, through his company Dunun, creates and develops what he calls “original, interactive and ludic multimedia projects”.
“My objective is to create surprising works,’”he writes on his website, adding that he is “always aiming to reach the best quality even if some will certainly describe me as a maniac.”
The piece has certainly earned the eccentric artist attention since he uploaded it on video sharing website vimeo.com on November 19, where it boasts over 12,000 views.
But on image sharing websites like Reddit and Imgur, it has exploded in popularity, with nearly 8,000 up votes and over 1 million views respectively.
Viewers have been quick to praise the work — and some to shun his use of eye-popping technology.
“Your brain is not ready for this”, reads a posting on Reddit.
What do you think? Fascinating use of animation technology or nauseating spin from one image to another?

Posted on November 22, 2011 at 11:18amWait til Al Sharpton sees this video and the ACLU jumps in….I saw no black faces melded!! Must be racist art from 1983 and parts of moustaches looked a little like hitler too. Subliminal racism? ha ha can you feel the sarcasm here?

Posted on November 22, 2011 at 1:47pmGuess I missed the sarcasm. Or maybe just tired of everything being about race. I saw a bunch of black faces in there. Hard to see in the first half but as it slows down very easy to see. Did anyone see other minorities in there?

Put me to sleep. I expected this great video and waited for something spectacular to happen, but…. nothing.
There must be a hell of a lot of bored people to be calling this “eye-popping.“ This ”eccentric artist” hasn‘t done anything I haven’t seen done better elsewhere.
“Your brain is not ready for this” Yeah, right. The artist isn’t a maniac, he’s mentally challenged.

Posted on November 21, 2011 at 11:10pmReminds me of the suits they wear in that movie with Keanu Reeves about a gov’t employee who is supposed to be tracking the source of a drug epidemic. Anyway, they wear suits while at work that change their physical characteristics so that they do not look like any specific person and so their identiry remains secret. The film was “A Scanner Darkly” and it has a twist ending. It’s actually not a bad movie if you can stand the way it is rendered and the drug abuse. The ending makes it good for anyone who is anti-big gov’t though.

Posted on November 21, 2011 at 10:41pmWoah! Exactly!
Clayface was always one of the villains who really had the ability to be properly terrifying when he was in the same room- or a few blocks away, lol.

Posted on November 21, 2011 at 11:14pmReminds me of the scramble suits in “A Scanner Darkly.” I think using this effect would have looked even better in the movie, but the film used a unique rotoscoping technique.

Posted on November 21, 2011 at 10:04pmThis is amazing!!! Not. I thought it was just YouTube where you end up stumbling down what I call the rabbit hole. You know – that place where you end up with disfigured animals, ants eating centipedes or phone-cam street brawls. This is not technology nor entertaining. Heck “she takes a photo every day: 2.5 years” has been around since 2007 and is more creative than this. I was hoping for some news. Guess I’ll go watch some YouTube instead.
