    I have no problem with government run health care as long as it’s the same policy that congress and the president already have. But if you tell me the government can’t afford to do that, then the government also cannot afford to do it for congress and the president.

    The test are required because the doctor does not want to be sued for making a mistake. If government has an input then if something goes wrong can you sue the government, NO. Just look to the UK for how government control is working. You want the best then you pay for it. What is going to happen with no limit on coverage. Insurance companies will go out of business and then we only have the government and just look to medicaid and how it works.

      I did for elbow surgery in feb this year to have a procedure called cubital tunnel release.It was performed at 8:00 am,iwas out the front door by 10:30,home by 12:30.Later that evening my friend who is a stna asked why i had no dressings to change and I told her they told me to leave it on till my follow up which was 14 days later.She then asked why there was a blood spot on the dressing about the size of a quarter and I told her I didn‘t know but wasn’t to concerned.Thought maybe that was normal.Five days later my heavy jacket that i wear for outside work shifted the dressing.When i got home that afternoon I asked my friend to ck it out since the site was exposed to see how it looked as far as healing.She returned with a hand held mirror as she said you might want to look at this.There was a two inch wound wide open reflected back at me.Well guess I’m heading back to Cleveland in the morning.It is a two hour drive by the way from where i live.Got there at 8:am went to ortho,they referred me to the e.r. where iI sat till 4:pm before I got to see a P.A. who took one one look at it and said “You were waiting for what”?She then said a few other choice things about her sections beauracrats and made the phone call to ortho.My surgeon then looked at it and said”Don’t know how that happened”.He proceded to pack it,guazed,secured it,gave me about Two weeks supply of packing and wound dressings and wanted to see me in two weeks.Wound was still open about a half inch and no longer had any dressings.The doctor who saw me new the situation and looked at it,said it was healing niceley and i complained that the numbness was still pretty prevalent and although there was no pain I still had terrible weakness in the forearm.He then like it hurt his feelings asked how can I help you.I just wanted more dressing and be on my way.He sent me out of his office with no cover on my wound.and a 6 week followup.Oh and ordered packing and dressing materials.Waited in the pharmacy for 2 hours got my stuff and went home.Well it is no better and feels like you do when you have a pebble in your shoe but the scar tissue drags across the nerve causing more numness than before.and i’m typing one handed now cause my fingers on that side just quit.So anyone who reads this wants to see what obama care is going to look like for you,well just hope your not self-employed and your hands are your life.

    This is frightening for many reasons. The problem is not Doctors. It is a) the structure of Medicare, and b) the nature of malpractice law. For an elected official to show such blatant ignorance is just plain dangerous.

    American’s must continue their diligence in working to educate both themselves and their elected representatives so that ignorance like that showed by Rep. McDermott is not spread further.

      Correct. Until it became fashionable (for lack of another word) to sue for malpractice, doctors’ costs and treatment plans were much lower. Because of the high cost of their insurance to protect against malpractice, costs have gone over the top. They have to get the money from somewhere to pay those premiums.

      All you need to do to prove that point is Medicare and Medicaid. Especially Medicaid because Medicaid is going to be the “New Single Payer” baseline. It is where Mr. O is parking all his friends in the Illegal Alien Community for “FREE” healthcare and when you make it “FREE” then it costs the other people in the system more.

      It is how Congress allows the Pharmaceutical companies to recoup the costs of discounting drugs in the rest of the world…

      What this clown doesn’t admit is that Meidcare only pays a set amount (25%) based upon a complex (governement imposed) reimbursement system. If you go to a major medical center (that accepts medicare) and see their top specialist, you pay the exact same if you see a new specialist right out of residency who hasn’t established themself yet.
      Now, let’s look at a law practice that 1) doesn‘t have to see you if you don’t have a cent to your name or have a case. 2) charges 33% of any settlement before you see a dime 3) top dog gets $500 hr and bills for phone calls (doctors can’t) from minute 1. 4) doesn’t get sued by money grubbing MDs at the drop of a hat! Just to name a few differences

      Outside of the “health care will be controlled” the rest is a pack of lies! Health care costs skyrocketed the moment Medicare was enacted. The costs of clerical, record keeping and liability has resulted in high costs. The absurd costs of health care are twofold. First but not foremost, the dynamic advances in technology. Second, and most important, government intervention, oversight and regulation. If you pull government out of the equation health care costs will plummet. As proven so many times before, “Government is not the solution to a problem, it IS the problem.”

      In the hospital the relatives gathered in the waiting room, where a family member lay gravely ill. Finally, the doctor came in looking tired and somber.

      “I‘m afraid I’m the bearer of bad news, he said as he surveyed the worried faces. The only hope left for your loved one at this time is a brain transplant. It’s an experimental procedure, very risky, but it is the only hope. Insurance will cover the procedure, but you will have to pay for the BRAIN.”

      The family members sat silent as they absorbed the news. After a time, someone asked, ‘How much will a brain cost?’

      The doctor quickly responded, “$5,000 for a Democrat’s brain; $200 for a Republican’s brain.”

      The moment turned awkward. Some of the Democrats actually had to ‘try’ not to smile, avoiding eye contact with the Republicans. A man unable to control his curiosity, finally blurted out the question everyone wanted to ask, “Why is the Democrats brain so much more than a Republicans brain?”

      The doctor smiled at the childish innocence and explained to the entire group, “It’s just standard pricing procedure. We have to price the Republicans brains a lot lower because they’ve been used.”

      **Wow….Drippy sounds….really, really…..cranky. Oooooops that may qualify as a “moronic one-liner”….sorry Drip Man.

      Just a suggestion……to clear your aching head…..take a nap…a long nap….ignore The Blaze as you’ve promised to do and weld your channel surfing button to MSNBC when you wake.

      You’ll be a much happier drippy camper. Couldn’t help slipping in a few “goodbye” moronic liners.

      I keep telling myself “Okay, that’s it. I’m done with TheBlaze.” Yet I always seem to come back.
      ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
      Drippy, this is still a free country. Suit yourself. Coming to The Blaze is purely voluntary; we are not required to be here. If you don’t like it here, you are certainly free to leave. You didn’t need an invitation to be here. This is not a private club.
      There are those of us who have bonded here because of our viewpoints. The fact is that some of us DO have each other’s email addresses, and we discuss things at much greater length later on, usually at night (in my case). I have talked with a number of the people here on the phone. It’s a pleasure to see “Good Morning, Show” in this day and time, when things look so gloomy because of the destruction originating from the White House.
      I regret that you have not established a friendship with someone’s username. It is very enlightening, and I value those friendships.
      Frankly he should resign immediately. He is too radical to be an elected official. This country was created by a little tax on tea. These people have no clue where this will lead. The overwhelming majority in this country will not stand for a government bureaucrat telling them what treatment or medicine they can have. This idiot is stealing our freedoms. We need the Republican congress to pass a budget that not only cuts spending but completely de-funds Obamacare. If Senate doesn’t go along with it, then shut down the government for as long as it takes the Senate to come their senses. I don’t care if takes until Jan 20, 2013. Shut it down, they will do less damage that way. What the Democrats are saying is, we didn’t get the message in November, and if we don’t get our way we wont govern. Fine, the American people are smart enough to realize a shut down is 100% caused by liberal Democrats who are so childish, they throw temper tantrums when they can‘t spend other people’s money (mainly our children‘s and grand children’s money which is child abuse)
      I will listen in more detail later …. my first reaction is that the Trial Lawyers are the ones manipulating courtroom dramas that force Doctors to be over cautious in doing every test known to the science to minimize the litigation risk when their clinical skills alone might have already told the story. Yet The DemoRats do not want to rope in their major supporters – the Trial Lawyers. So what does this jerk expect?
      I remember when Newt Gingrich pushed for HMOs and PPOs saying this would hold Medical Care Costs down; it was another LIE to get contributions. The physicians got less, the government paid less initially so they could say, “SEE?”, but then the piper had to be paid. The CEOs of the HMOs were paid MILLIONS. The costs for the HMOs was astronomical; BUT the HMOs “contributed” to Newt and all the others who
      sold their Souls for the almighty dollar. Medical costs escalated and the money went through the back doors. Hey, wanta lift chair? “We will get you one for FREE or give it to you if you are on Medicaid”. Just
      the TV commercials DAILY cost millions. “COME ON, MAN”. What a RACKET Medical Care has become.
      @ THE PATRIOT………you betcha my friend I am on the medical board of our hospital and approx. 40% of our primary physicians are going to retire when Obamacare kicks in. What few people know is we have a crisis in this country for the number of physicians already without the added pressure of those already practicing retiring earlier. We are headed for a nightmare. What is the Obama admins. answer they are going to push hard for nurse practitioners delivering the care for the most part with one physician overseeing maybe 5 -10 nurse practitioners. Now I love my nurse practitioners but they cannot replace the patient physician relationship on that scale you will have decreased quality. There is no way around it. Thanks for your comment friend
      This guy hasn’t a clue how medicine works. Doctors don’t set the fees for Medicare, the government does. Too few details were given about the patient he mentions. Do we want this government making the decisions about the medical care we receive?????
      @ watchtheotherhand
      Watch is exactly right. The Goverment already sets what they will pay to the Dr. and it is very little.I want the Government out of it altogether. They can’t even run the Gov. and do a good job. I certainly want someone better trained to handle my HEALTHCARE. I am not on medicare yet but I do know how little they pay the doctors and the restrictions they already have and it is ridiculous. GET THE GOVERNMENT OUT OF HEALTHCARE AND EVERYTHING ELSE. IT WILL BE CHEAPER.
      The esteemed (just kidding) Congressman doesn’t appear to be what we might call a “spring chicken.” So……when he is looking at a “decision” on his health care…..will he be in the same system that he’s talking about? Answer: NO. Ya see…..he’s on the separate “legislative” plan.
      My suggestion….place him and all of the other Congressional Pimps who voted for ObamaCare on ObamaCare…and when the time comes to decide whether or not to care for Mr. McDimwitt at a critical point in his life……please let me know so I can have the pleasure of “pulling the plug.”
      @ SISSY…….Thanks sister. Just so everyone knows how Medicare is doing business these days. That large figure of Medicare fraud Obama likes to throw around is a HUGE lie. What they include in that figure is when physicians who have done everything they billed for didn’t put one little sentence in their records or one little word and Medicare demands every penny back. They change their rules so often that even their own employees are clueless when we call them how we need to document something. Now they have what are called RACs (recovery audit contractors) that are independent hit-men basically that go out and audit charts endlessly finding whatever minutia they can find to demand repayment, not because the service was not rendered but because a sentence was left out here or there or a description failed to meet their ever changing “standard”. It is a crock and a way to get back millions that have been appropriately billed for. It is mafioso in nature and there is very little recourse for physicians or hospitals. The current average payback for hospitals is at 1.5 million. BTW the RACs get paid a percentage of what they recover, can you say conflict of interest !!!!!!!!!!!!!! They are scum in my book.
      I don’t know dumb dumb, are you a doctor? How does that doctor know if she has a herniated disk, a bone spur, or something worse yet? Simple, HE RUNS TESTS TO DETERMINE WHAT HER CONDITION IS!!!! For someone that is supposed to be so dang smart, you sure don’t have the mental capacity of a three year old! Now, perhaps if you fixed tort reform then the doctor wouldn’t be afraid of the lawsuit for missing something, and he would start out with the pills first and see if something needed to be done. Christ Almighty, where do we get these jokers?
      I will tell you what is wrong with McDermott point. I, about 10 years ago went to the doctor explaining that I felt something was wrong. I was tired and could not sleep, etc. The doctor ordered a number of test and what not. He found that I had a few gall bladder stones and sent me to a specialist. In fact, a surgeon who recommended immediate removable of my gall bladder. Nothing else serious was found and no effective treatment for my chronic fatigue. I fired both doctors and went on with my life. I still have my gall bladder and have more energy than ever. The point is, try doing that with the Government. If they mandate that you do something most likely you will do it or be subject to severe penalty.
      I rather think for myself and have access to those procedures if I want to avail myself of them. Not be told I am too fat and what to eat and weather or not I am to old for the procedure so I should go to a hospice and quietly await my fate. I rather have choices, not have McDermott and the Left telling me how I should live and die.
