You’ve Got to See This Awesome Barehanded Catch

It happened during a baseball game between St. John’s Jesuit and Fremont Ross in Ohio: The ball is knocked straight up, St. John’s catcher Corey Tipton makes a grab for it, the ball bounces off Tipton’s glove, and pitcher Joe Robie makes an amazing diving catch.

The amount of effort and finesse put into this tag team play is, well, awesome:

“The Toledo Blade said the game (won by St. John’s – i.e. Robie’s and Tipton’s team) ‘will be remembered for its wild sixth inning,’” Sports Grid’s Glenn Davis writes.

“Well, this play happened in the third, so . . . we’ll have to respectfully disagree.”

Hemmingway said there are only 3 sports, auto racing, mountain climbing, and bull fighting. the rest are only games.

Sorry to be a party pooper, but this is one in a long list of quotations mysteriously attributed to Ernest Hemingway. While the general public seem to agree that this is in fact a Hemingway quotation, scholars have some reservations and for good reason. The early Hemingway did not believe that bullfighting was a sport. For him it was a tragedy. See his October 20, 1923 article titled “Bullfighting A Tragedy” reprinted in By-Line: Ernest Hemingway Selected Articles and Dispatches of Four Decades edited by William White. Hemingway reiterates his beliefs regarding the tragedy of bullfighting in his 1932 book, Death in the Afternoon.

If that is truly what hemmingway said, then he must be right up there with Obama with the way he has with words. but also like Obama, he’s an idiot for having such a narrow opinion.

Ha like a six year old he acts like he was seriously injured. This shouldn’t be considered a sport, a game at best, like golf or ping pong. Do yourselves a favor and check out the Stanley Cup playoffs to see some real athletes play a real sport. On a nightly basis you see much more skill in Hockey than the best Baseball can offer.

Hocky is trash, the rules suck, the refs suck, and hockey sucks, its not a sport, its just waiting for a fight to break out. You are an imbecile

I have to agree even if I don’t like hockey. The thing that makes hockey that much more of a sport is the fact that you have to be able to skate to play. You can’t run around the ice like ball players do on the field.

Golfs should be on the endangered species list!! So many of them are shot everyday! AND they even have them held-hostage in a fenced-in course-area. The hunters can find them cause we paint them white, and sometimes brite colors. They keep the grass short so they can’t hide!
Where is PITA when we need them!

Did anyone notice the batter/runner walking and trying to impede the catchers ability to get to the ball until it was tipped? A good umpire would have called him out for interference regardless of the outstanding effort/catch by the pitcher.

Has good sportsmanship gone the way of manners and work ethic?

He stayed in the base path and was trying to avoid contact with the ball. Nothing wrong with that.

Good call Chief! That is the first thing I noticed as well. The runner made no attempt to allow the catcher to play the ball. Automatic out… great catch though.
