Zetas Cartel Leader Arrested in Connection With 49 Decapitated, Mutilated Bodies Dumped on Highway

Mexican authorities have apprehended a drug cartel kingpin in connection with the grisly murders of 49 people whose bodies were found last week strewn along a Mexican highway decapitated and dismembered.

(Related: Latest Mexican Drug War Escalation: 49 Mutilated And Decapitated Bodies Left on Highway)

His name is Daniel Jesus Elizondo Ramirez — but he also goes by the more fitting nickname “El Loco” or “The Crazy One.” A prominent member of the notorious Zetas cartel, Elizondo is believed to have helped coordinate and carry out the massacre and body dump.

The bodies were found on May 13 with no heads, hands or feet on a highway that connects Mexico to the United States.

Elizondo was arrested in Nuevo Leon on Friday, The Daily Mail reports. But that doesn’t mean he went quietly. When authorities tried to apprehend him, he fired at army troops and even tossed a hand grenade at them in an attempt to escape.

The Daily Mail has more:

Elizondo headed the Zetas trafficking operations in the town of Cadereyta, close to where the bodies were dumped.

Officials say he was ordered to leave the bodies in the town square by gang leaders known as ‘The Shrimp’ and ‘The Speaker,’ who are both still at large.

However, Elizondo became nervous and dumped them on a nearby highway instead.

He is being held without charge at a special detention facility while prosecutors build their case against him.

The Associated Press reports that Elizondo has also confessed to the additional killings of rival Gulf cartel members and “burning or burying their bodies in another area of Nuevo Leon.”

The massacre is among the most heinous crimes committed since Mexican President Felipe Calderon came to power and declared war on the drug cartels in 2006. Since then, about 55,000 have been killed in drug related violence and roughly 5,000 have disappeared.

The Zetas tagged the crime scene with their mark, appearing to claim responsibility for the killings. Further, a video posted on a Mexican website showed “gunmen in the dark dumping the bodies,” according to The AP.

Live Leak currently has a video posted on their website which they claim shows members of the Zeta cartel handling the 49 dismembered corpses. (WARNING: The video is extremely graphic. Click photo below to watch.)

Zeta Cartel Leader The Crazy One Daniel Elizondo Arrested in Mexico

An unidentified male uses a large stick to move a human corpse.

The disturbing video shows a large number of decapitated corpses with no hands or feet piled on top of each other in what looks like some sort of dump truck. As the clip rolls on and day turns to night, you can see several figures moving about in the shot before a man is seen using a long stick to get a corpse out into the street. The images are disturbing.

The video was originally posted on You Tube by a “self-proclaimed” Zeta last week, according to Live Leak. It appears that the video has since been taken down from the popular video-sharing site.

Zeta leaders also left a message to rival gangs and well as the Mexican Army at the crime scene: “Gulf cartel, Sinola cartel, marines and soldiers, nobody can do anything against us or they will lose.”

(AP Photo/Christian Palma)

Shortly after the corpses were discovered, however, banners surfaced in other Mexican states denying that the Zetas were behind the killings. Authorities say it was part of a Zetas tactic to “cause confusion among authorities and the public” while shifting blame to their enemies.

As for the victims, identifying them will be difficult without heads, hands or feet. Still, the bodies could be identified with DNA samples. As of 10 a.m. on Tuesday, none of the victims had been named.

Drug cartels are increasingly using beheadings and body mutilation to intimidate and silence their opposition, which some claim is a reflection of a documented alliance formed between radical Islam groups like Hezbollah and the cartels.

I grieve at the state of our nation, and the ignorance of decent people that let it get that way. As far as the crazy person they caught here. He should be executed, and as for the illegals that are convicted should be deported.

My happiness does not come from dope heads being able to smoke dope, drunks being able to drink or obese people being able to eat donuts. Many people struggle with all sorts of addictions here in life, and are worse of because of it.

I am passionate about Liberty and the foundations this nation was built on. Our founding fathers did not want to create government that would protect people from themselves if so the Liberty will soon be lost.

The fact is that the War on Drugs is not working. It drives up the cost and becomes very lucrative for criminals. I suppose that it does create allot of police jobs, as does studying cow flatulence effect on the ozone layer, but I don’t want to pay for that with my tax dollars. Especially since there are minimal positive results to show for it.

I suppose that I would be happier if watched more mindless TV, as the proverb goes “the more knowledge, the more grief”

You are wrong, except for saying it is pathetic to do drugs. The fact is that if drugs where legalized the there would not be any money in it.

Sniffing glue is a drug! You don’t see anyone pushing “glue”, or standing on the street corner trying to sell glue, nor does anyone bring glue through the tunnels that go under the border. They are used for bringing marijuana through. If anyone could grow it here in the US legally there would not be any money in sneaking it across the border.

The drug running and smuggling, and the money made doing it would disappear, just like what happened to alcohol during the prohibition in the 1920′s, where there was allot of money to be made in that business, as seen with Al Capone, Lucky Lusiano etc… how they got their money and power from the prohibition. Decriminalize drugs and crime will go down, and probably use as well as seen in Portugal since they decriminalized drugs in 2004.

Like you I don’t use drugs, but I don‘t think that it is the government’s role to protect the people from themselves. By giving that job to the government, you are on the way to loose all liberty. That has lead to the anti smoking craze, with tobacco tax, and from there, fat tax, etc…

We need to legalize or at least decriminalize drugs. Look at the War on Drugs!
IT IS NOT WORKING! The only thing it does is turn our nation into a police state!
If you want to get rid of drugs you need a Singapore solution, where they liberally execute anybody caught with more drugs than considered personal use. They even execute tourist that brought too much weed with them, in about 8 days from when they where caught. The fact is that I fear the government than the occasional drug addict.
I have know and seen many people trough away their life, and 3 people that committed suicide over drug and alcohol use, and people that have spent half their adult life in prison for drugs. But the fact is that all of these people did this WHILE IT WAS ILLEGAL. So if Heroin was sold at 7eleven. I don’t think that most people would run out and buy it!
We have 3/4 million people in prisons for non violent drug charges. I don’t want to pay for that, and if everybody that who ever tried drugs where in prison then half of US would be incarcerated!!
Is it our Government’s job here to protect us from ourselves? If hat happens you can look to the day that your credit card won’t work at McDonalds, due to you did not pass the yearly mandatory health exam, that uploads the info to some new agency so they can track your health. I am sure that something like that is already in Obama care. There might be some Fat Credits you can purchase much like the Carbon Credits

The word “Conspiracy Theorist” gets used by the ignorant that care not to do their own research, and are more comfortable not knowing and following the main stream. I have looked into a couple of the things listed, and all I can say for sure is that the official story is rarely right, and that our Government lies. That does not mean that the theories are true, but it does mean that our Government can’t be trusted to tell the truth.

But most of you will go in, like the average person did in Germany in 1933 and tell themselves: “What can I do about it anyway”

It is ignorance and apathy that has gotten our nation to the dismal state it is in.

OR: We could just build an actual wall, and put troops out there. We could put signs up that say, “ENTRANCE THIS WAY—->” or, “<—-THIS WAY" for people who intend to actual immigrate to the United States. And another sign behind that one that says, "WARNING: ANYONE CROSSING THIS POINT WILL BE SHOT ON SIGHT". I think that could also solve our drug cartel issue.

We can handle the rest. All those companies on both sides better know Americans are not going to take this mess anymore here. If Mexico wants to sacrafice their citizens to drugs and crime on the alter of the Devil, there is little we can do to help without their asking.
