We didn’t say they wouldn’t lose their tax-exempt status. We said they won’t lose their right to be exempt from public accommodation laws. Big difference. If I were running a church, I’d want to drop tax exempt status which would give my church one more level if protection against governmental encroachment.

I heard there’s security footage of a confederate flag leaving the scene around the time of the fire.
witnesses also say the church building was yelling “hands up- don’t burn”.
I'm sure FFRF considers this a great victory.
"If you like your Church....Ah Hell Burn that B**ch down"
I’m guessing if this had been a white church that had just refused to perform a gay marriage ceremony, you wouldn’t be calling out those darn gays as the culprit? I know, I know... racism no longer exists.
Well, there went Hillary's next campaign speech, and Terry McAuliffe's services are no longer required.
Fake racist attacks has been all the rage for a number of years now. It's really strange that if racism is so pronounced that they would need to fake racist attacks. They even now had to come up with a micro-aggression theory that unconscious things like not smiling enough, or maybe smiling too much is racist.

You’re right, no answer tells me all I need to know.
101st vet here too but long before Iraq, 81-84. God bless all the Screaming Eagles who have gone to combat for our country, including you!
But if we suggested punching a Christian in the mouth for standing up for his beliefs, let me guess, hateful oppression?

@militant… What is it that makes you militant? Is it that you are mad because mommy made you come out of the basement for lunch, or is it that brand new pair of Avengers underwear that makes you feel like a man? What is it?

You forgot to tout the labor participation rate, Isis, the national debt, etc… Need I continue?

Another feel good political move that will not stop a damn thing. It will only fuel more hatred and division.
The fact of the matter is the black people of South Carolina are full citizens of the state of South Carolina and the United States and they should have the right to say what flag fly's on Government property. Get rid of the flag of the losing side, put a representation in a museum somewhere as an example of what was and as warning so we never make the same mistake again.
How will this fuel hatred and division? Anybody who really hates the idea of the confederate flag not flying at their state capital has to already be pretty full of hate, and will still be pretty full of hate even if the flag is allowed to remain. The rest of us should not care what they think. They are divided from us by a gap that we should not seek to bridge.
The most divisive and racially motivated thing in this nation is standing on the grounds of the white house, and he needs to be removed immediately.
So aleycat. Do Mexicans in California have the right to say which flag flies there? Is that maybe why they fly the Mexican flag OVER the US flag in so many cases? The fact is, they're simply celebrating their heritage, right? (end sarc)
The 'rebel' flag is also representing the heritage of the south. To most, it has nothing to do with slavery, but with the souths attempt to assert their rights. They weren't fighting to retain the right to own slaves. Some in the north also owned slaves. They were fighting because their rights weren't being represented by the government in the north. The people in the south, black AND white, were being held as slaves by the northern government.
Why can't the south celebrate THEIR heritage, at the same time, and with the same freedoms, that Mexicans (and others) are allowed to celebrate theirs. At least those in the south have a flag that was born here in the US.
101--Exactly. Whenever something awful happens people just want to do something--anything. They yet process that the horror cannot be undone. So, what do they do to say they did something? In this case, they blame flag that stands for states' rights and for freedom--not for one whack job nut case or for slavery (as many of my fellow posters have correctly explained). Sure, blame the flag and everything will be right with the world in South Carolina. I think I'm going to buy a Confederate flag and fly it on my pole at my house. Usually I fly a Culpeper Gadsden under Ol' Glory, but I think I'll mix it up a bit. Why not? I'm on it!
