People who threaten non-believers with “eternal hell fire” better be sure they’ve studied the scriptures well. I don’t think God will be happy that He was held up as Someone who tortures. God doesn’t take prisoners. He destroys. Destruction isn’t cruel. Unending suffering would be.

The Jews were waiting for a warrior Messiah and missed the spiritual kingdom Jesus preached. Just like today, unlearned Christians are looking for a fleshly Messiah to return and kill all the bad guys. If you believe this way, you’re going to be frustrated for the rest of your life.
