  NCSU Class of 1976 and anyone familiar with Duke is not surprised. Duke thinks it’s an “Ivy League” school but they continually show how low class they really are.

  In reading about secession several years ago, it seems that the founding fathers never questioned the right of a state to secede. The states joined. They were not conquered. The Constitution was a very limited gift of power to the federal government with the 10th amendment retaining all rights not specifically given to the federal government with the states. Lincoln didn’t grant permission either.

  The question/answer centers around “legally”. I don’t know of a law that says that it cannot legally secede. Interestingly enough, the original idea of secession leading to the civil war came from the North. The information that I have read stated that the founding fathers never questioned that the states could secede. The States created the federal government, they could leave it. Lincoln, a supporter of a big and all powerful federal government person (remind you of anyone?), used force to answer the question and intended to destroy not only the South but the idea itself. Won the war, lost on the destruction of both. Texas: if you want to go for it, we’ll move there and support the cause. Until someone takes it seriously though, the idea of secession is nothing more than just that, an idea.

  I ran a convenience store for about two years. The legislature passes the law that you must be a certain age to buy alcohol, tobacco, etc. The guy behind the counter, however, is the one who enforces the law. I had many people angry at me when I carded them and when they don’t have one many have gotten extremely angry.
