  Actually, Justangry, fully automatic weapons ARE legal. They are extremely over priced, (multiple thousands of dollars), there is a quite extensive background check done, and you have to apply at the BATF and pay for what’s generally called a “tax stamp”. This allows the BATF to come to you at any time without notice to check your weapons and make sure you still possess the automatic weapons on file. It is a huge pain in the ass and very expensive, but you CAN legally own a full-auto “assault” weapon.
