  • Not surprisingly, Krugman is actually wrong here. There is no “Social Security trust fund.” Social Security is part of the general budget, and that is why it’s dangerous. If it had its own separate funds, then it couldn’t bring down the government if and when it collapses. Regardless of what tag you put on it, the funds that keep Social Security alive are part of the general budget of the United States.

By the way, this was never supposed to be the case. It was supposed to be separate from general budgeting.

  • Every one on our side wants reduced spending. How will be get guaranteed spending cuts? Letting the “fiscal cliff” (horrible phrase) deadline expire. Automatics spending cuts. Let it expire and then budget from there.

  • Regardless of your opinion on Trump, the issue of Obama’s passport records and college transcripts are important. There is a reason he has not released either, and the public should know what that reason is.

  • No wonder all the regular people think that the repubs are a bunch of sissies; they use their moms and wives to deliver their messages. How about articulating your position in a clear and persuasive manner. It’s really the only thing politicians are supposed to do.

  • Sure, Fahreed, the Tea Party is to blame for the government spending money that it doesn’t have.

  • The most ironic thing about the arguments the supporters of “raza” studies use is that the Hispanics weren’t even in the Southwestern United States first; it was the paleo-indians. On any piece of land, one can go back through time and identify what groups of people have lived there, but this actually doesn’t mean anything. It’s about who controls it now.

  • This is misleading. All of the minorities put together almost equal the white population. So, comparing whites to ALL other groups, yes, they would almost be the minority. But comparing whites to one specific minority, whites are still the majority.
