  This is the reaction of people who are not looking for moments of fame or “look at me!” responses from the crowd. People from that part of the world have learned to deal with hardship and not let it beat them. So I imagine it went something like – “The tree almost fell on me, but it didn’t. Check – yes, I’m okay. Can’t do anything about the tree. Okay, a bit scary, but I’m done here. Moving on.”

  I don’t think that is it. I think it is more like when people were punished for teaching slaves to read. Then they get “ideas”. Then the are not easy to control.
