I think I would be in that camp too. Defend their right to say this and support this. To those guys it was art and so be it. But your point is the VERY REASON why we shouldn't be in such a hurry to silence and punish people for saying things. We are much better off knowing who they are and their judgement and opinion than if you hush them with disbarment or political pressure. If you do, they are still the same person on the inside....only now they just might be your lawyer.

Let’s be honest, two of the five stood up for Chris!
If they stood up, maybe they should have walked off the set. That would have been a statement. But they sat there.
rambosharley - At best it would be considered a very weak stand up. I dam sure wouldn't want either of them covering my back.
I think the first guy defended him better. Pulling a whoopee and walking off the stage makes you look ridiculous, like you can't have a real conversation. Can you imagine if he had thrown a temper tantrum and walked off? They would have be laughing at him and mocking him the rest of the show.
"Let's be honest, ..." As if your prior statements were not.
Honesty is not switched on an off. For people who were taught virtues from birth, virtues are always on.
Unfortunately our community's churches gave up administration of our community's public schools. That was soon followed by compulsory education, which was followed by censoring the oldest, most read and studied book on life styles and governing from their libraries.
Today victims of a K-12 education say things like "Let's be honest...".
You can't always just stand up and leave when confronted by hate, sometimes you have to step up confront it yourself. What Bret Stephens and the other guy who's name I didn't catch did was very good. They could have joined in with Howard Dean, Nia Malika and Bill Maher to bash our troops but they chose to stand and fight the insanity.
