  • Jon Stewart (thedailyshow.com) has a satirical commentary on this issue, along with the AP subpoena for phone records. It’s actually hilarious. Laughed my butt off.

  • The left are emotionally crippled haters. We see it when any conservative dies or is in a hospital. They can’t control themselves and spew out their vitriolic vomit to feel good about their pathetic lives. I read some pretty disgusting comments from the left when Reagan died, but none worse than those calculated to be hurtful to his survivors. I’ll take the opportunity to remind the left that they have freedom of speech. However should they exercise it in a cruel or hurtful way, others can elect to show their displeasure by slapping their faces off for cruelty

  • I never thought I’d agree with Piers Morgan, but he’s close to being right. There were some rude and negative comments from the left when Reagan died, but most Americans paid tribute or at least respected the dignity of the man’s last days. I didn’t always agree with Thatcher’s approach or ideas, but I did have a healthy respect for her iron will and the way she treated even the opposition with respect.

  • Mil-Dot… police aren’t the ones “interpreting” the law. It’s the legislature that defines what a firearm is and sometimes they include BB guns and paintball guns too. In this case, it might even the the DA who reads the definition of firearm (which “expels a projectile use the force of expanding gases”) and says an CO-2/air-powered BB gun meets the definition.

More likely some a-hole DA decided to push the charges. If so, that’s something the family’s lawyer can find out. When he does, he negotiates a deal with the DA to avoid prosecution. Once settled, he then goes for malicious prosecution against the DA’s office. (good luck on that though).

  • @SendTheMeteors – Reality check! Violent crime and homicide peaked in 1992 and have been declining since. The violent crime rate is 1/2 what it was in ’93. Homicides are down dramatically too.

That drop comes in the wake of more people than ever before being allowed to carry guns. It may not be the direct cause of the drop in crime, but is one factor.

Last, our legal system requires “due process” to strip you of your rights. We can’t legislate against pedophiles using the Internet and restrict their free speech rights unless they’re convicted of an offense. Same goes for Mr. Abdul Al-Qaedia if he’s an otherwise legal citizen. The “gun laws” from Congress are often poorly written, invite government abuse or do nothing to prevent the incidents they were supposed to address. NONE of the proposed laws in Congress would have stopped Newtown. It is merely an opportunity for the gov’t to impose limits on a right for which they have no power to legislate (Alex Hamilton).

Gun makers don’t profit because of the shootings, it’s ONLY when POLITICIANS say they want to further restrict our ability to buy guns that sales spike. People want one before they’re too hard to obtain. Those guilty of profiteering off these deaths it’s the Media who sensationalize them and give “fame” to the shooter, and politicians who make their name with nonsense legislation. You can’t defend the 1st, 4th or 5th amendment without also defending the 2nd. The Bill of Rights isn’t pick &

  • Watch the results of these political divestitures and/or the investment in “green” programs between now and about 5-6 years from now. When pension funds show a flat-line growth after selling off gun stocks and/or purchasing into money-losing “green” schemes the stakeholders in those pension funds will be demanding someone’s blood (and treasure). The politicians who directed pension fund managers to dump profitable investments will be held financially responsible.

  • Flash: Big News coasting on inertia. Brain dead management doesn’t know heart has stopped. New 21stC cable news coming format leverages headlines, interactive, TIVO/DVR, and web – gives viewer more depth, more follow-up alerts; advertisers get more exposure, several chances to sell. Viewers can browse, select topics/issues to follow. Aggregate services like Drudge will cross blend the messages, contrast one-sided partisan storytelling, may force MSM return to center.

  • Having the city drop the charges is only the first step. We know people err, but this is egregious.
The next step is a meeting with the director of public works to find out what procedures they have when something like this is done. Is the city tow notified to leave the car alone for the day? Or is there a 2-3 day waiting period before enforcing the brand spanking new privileged parking space? If not, why not? Get that policy changed. If so, then who violated the city policy? The workers? Tow operator? If they screwed up, then their apology is the cost of the fine they would have forced her to pay. In either case – lack of policy or policy violation – it’s to small claims court to sue the city for the time and effort you put in to correct the injustice because the city lacks proper policy or oversight. This isn’t “entitlement” but it is justice.

  • The term “assault weapon” is nothing more than a marketing term developed by the anti-gun lobby. Credit goes to Josh Sugarman of the Violence Policy Center who suggested the term would help confuse the public about whether the guns were [fully]automatic weapons or not. A true assault weapon is a rifle that can fire fully automatic or semi-automatic that fires a cartridge that is lower powered than a .308 hunting rifle.

What does the 2nd Amendment protect? In the 1970′s, anti-gun advocates, like Feinstein, said it didn’t protect handguns because they’re not “militia arms”, and we got bans. Today, the AR-15 (et al) are EXACTLY the type of “militia arms” they said were protected, but now they want to ban them. If it doesn’t protect rifles similar to military rifles, the amendment protects nothing at all. FLOOD your congress-critter with phone calls, e-mails and letters that say you oppose any more gun restrictions. It is time to hold the people who commit these acts responsible along with their psychiatrists and pharmaceutical companies pushing dangerous mind-altering drugs.

  • Didn’t you notice? This happened in the corrupt state of Illinois. The only state that doesn’t allow its citizens the *privilege* of getting a CCW permit. That means the idiot making the complaint should have known they were cops. No one else is allowed to carry in that state. The real surprise is that the moron didn’t discretely flee out a convenient door and call for a police SWAT team from outside.
