At many, if not all, similar celebrations the audience is asked politely to hold their applause until all students/participants receive their award, certificate, etc. It seems, however, there are always those present that have no personal shame and hoot and holler when their off-spring or friend’s name is announced. By doing so, they distract from the dignity of the situation and draw attention to themselves at the expense of the next person in line to receive their recognition. I wish people like the indignant Ms Cooper would keep their big fat mouths shut and show some public display of respect to others. Glad the cops took her away. Bet many others at the event are too.
