In the case of Israel, the US has done a lot of interfering. The peace deal with Egypt was US brokered and required Israel to give up the Sinai which acted as barrier. In return the US guaranteed Israel a measure of military supremacy that required the annual sum. As a tiny country, Isreal was already spending a huge percentage of its GDP in defense. As others have pointed out, this arrangement also benefits the USA. At Netanyahu’s request in the ’90s, the amount is being slowly reduced – in theory. With special projects like Iron Dome, I’m not sure it’s happeneing. Then again, one notices that the US is not exactly leaving Israel alone and is currently trying to foist a suicide peace deal on her.

“The Nobel prize has become nothing but a joke. ”

That’s certainly true in the non-scientific categories, especially the Peace Prize which has become unashamedly politicized.

In the sciences however, it’s much harder to be political – impossible even – and these prizes are quite valid.

Having a PhD in Astrophysics, I would expect him to.

Exactly right and necessary. They can also trust the journalists to be gullible every time. It’s a beautiful system.

    A great performance.

As the USA has Christmas and Easter as public holidays it presents itself as a primarily Christian country, albeit it one that welcomes people of other religions. Non-Christians came to the USA knowing all this. There is simply nothing wrong with the public celebration of these holidays.

So this was a joke was it?

I hope that by the end of Obama’s second term as President, joking will be a thing of the past. (That’s the ticket.)

godlovinmom: The word you’re looking for is, “mooning.”

(At your service, despite being terribly offended. Must run off now and figure out why I’m offended.)

Shoot the perp, fire a warning shot at the ground, THEN call 911.

@Jomil48 “if they don’t get it out soon, it will be frozen in.”

Antarctica is headed into summer and the sea ice can be expected to start breaking up any time. As long as they can stay afloat they should be OK. On the other hand, Antarctica is a dangerous place and one always needs a backup plan. E.g. many of the ship-supplied the teams that overwinter there take a 2 year supply in case they can’t be reached.

As far as I could tell, Hank simply meant that Boehner and Obama are as opposite as Hitler and Netanyahu. That Gretchen thought he meant to align Obama with Hitler was PC overreaction and not listening or comprehending properly.

In the 90s I once drove across the Canadian / US border with my kids in the back seat. The US border guard asked me who the kids were then asked for the name of the one on the right. As I answered he was looking carefully at the child. Every car was also photographed.

The US has the smarts to put vastly improved screening processes in place.

Actually it’s looking as though Israel has oil but selling it will take a while:

The political impact of this will probably start being noticed soon, what with the offshore gas issues going on right now. Buckle up,. it’ll be quite a ride.
