The conservative argument should be:
– If we MUST recognize marriage, ie there are 1100 references to marriage in the Tax Code!
– If marriage is NOT 1 Man & 1 Women
– then it should be any number of people (related or not), pets, plants, sofa, etc.
I say beat them to the punch to trivialize “marriage” to make it meaningless. . .
We are there anyway

DUMP the cable!!!
An easy alternative until your cable operator sees the light . . . Attach a computer to your TV. All fairly new TVs, ie 10yrs or less, have a PC input; Most new computers have an HDMI output (the new connection standard. You can even by a tuner that connects to your PC.
I have a fairly inexpensive computer with a tuner, wireless keyboard & trackball attached to my LCD TV. A month or 2 with NO CABLE BILL pays for the setup!
I have a Roku box that will hook up to my old TV with none of the fancy inputs and that works on the older model TVs. But thanks for the tip on the newer ones, I never noticed the HDMI output on the back of my computer before reading this. I'm not very tech savvy.
They make DVI - HDMI adapters you can buy for under 5$.
They make them in cable form too. Newegg or Tigerdirect dot com
DVI output has been on Video cards for years now.
