  • @WhatdoIbelieve
    I live literally down the road from a major university-run hospital. I interact with its orderlies and nurses every single day. Because of this, I will be un-checking the “organ donor” box on my driver’s license when it is time to re-new it at the end of this year.

  • Meh, I wouldn’t be too worried about him. If he ruffles enough feathers, he’ll simply be sent with Omar Sharif as an emissary to Scandinavia, to learn the ways of “pagan men”.

  • I think “Sturmgewehre”, the guy who does the Military Arms Channel on YouTube is a little more articulate and level-headed, but I have to admit that Colion Noir does a great job of injecting a little humor into his points– I’ve cracked-up several times watching his channel.

    Overall, this is a move long, LONG overdue!

  • The French, and Europe in general, need to just simply grab their ankles and prostrate themselves before the Muslim influx, who are active participants in the workforce with a genuine work ethic. I think after a few decades of living under Islamic Shariah, maybe, JUST MAYBE, Europe will finally understand what happens when Liberty and Prosperity are taken for granted…

    From Prosperity, to Apathy;
    From Apathy, to Dependency;
    From Dependency, back into Bondage.

  • Best of luck with that– the Republican Party seriously needs an enema the size of Lake Erie!

  • In conclusion, I agree that you should be able to walk into a restaurant, expect a smile, knowledge of the menu, and attentiveness. But it would also be prudent to realize that capitalism is a two-way street, and creating that “Double-Thank-You” moment, as John Stossel calls it, means doing your part as well. Your server hardly makes so much as a dime off the cost of the meal itself– most of that goes to the cooks, the custodians (some places do have them), the runners, the bussers, and the managers. Tips are how your server pays for her car, her education (as is often the case), her rent/mortgage, and how she feeds her family. If she did her job decently, it’s only fair to pay her for her services rendered (and, as I said– the bill itself doesn’t really cover that!!!!!).

  • And one last point– many managers are too cheap to pay their bus boys and cooking staff a decent wage. They expect the SERVER to make up for that!

    I know that franchise restaurants, such as Applebee’s, Chili’s, and Red Robin are especially guilty of this. They have a sky-high turnover rate amongst their wait staff because there are nights when the bus boys and cooks, who make ABOVE MINIMUM WAGE (albeit not much), walk out of the restaurant at the end of the night with MORE TIPS than the $3.50/hr servers! So, not only are the wait staff screwed by the customer a good chunk of the time, but they also get screwed by their employer ALL the time!

    I’m fortunate in that I work at a prestigious hotel, where MOST of the clientele are aware of such things, and my employer knows that getting quality employees means paying a decent wage. Unfortunately, most hospitality employees are not so lucky. Even though I completely realize that you gotta work hard and treat your guests well in order to work your way into a better job, I don’t think many people realize how discouraging it is when you do your job with pride and professionalism, only to get shafted by people who act like they’re better than you. When that happens, the pride and professionalism I spoke of earlier can feel completely and utterly pointless.

  • I’m in the hospitality business, and the “overt” Christians (the ones that gather in large groups after a service or a retreat, or whatnot) are probably among the worst tippers out there (may even be worse than public school teachers and government service employees, but that’s a topic for another time). What really gets our staff fuming is when these people decide to leave us some Jesus pamphlets instead of a tip. While Heaven may be on your mind, PROVIDING FOR OUR FAMILIES IS ON OUR MIND!!!!!! And we can’t pay a mortgage or groceries with Jesus pamphlets!

    And for those of you who subscribe to the belief that you shouldn’t have to tip– that your server should feel lucky or blessed for the “privilege” of taking your crap for $3.50 an hour– you may want to try a restaurant that has automatic gratuity, or no gratuity. Look at the prices of their menu items. Then consider what sort of service you get. Every restaurant I’ve ever been to that had either one of those policies had consistently-crappy service, and was every bit as expensive as tipping your server.

    And for those of you who think tips are “free money,” I’ll have you know that we have to claim our tips at the end of the shift, and we get TAXED on them. In fact, if we don’t claim AT LEAST 10% of our sales in tips, we are likely to get audited. So if we don’t make at least 10% tip, we are paying taxes on non-existent income! Have you ever had to do that?

  • I’ve been following Nigel Farage on YouTube and Twitter for more than a year now. His tirades against the idiocy of the EuroZone are nothing short of EPIC! They bring a smile to my face EVERY time!

  • @ Lt_Scrounge– Couldn’t have said it any better myself! (GO STEELERS!)

    Regarding the video, the girl was obviously the victim of some very unflattering photography, as well as bullying. Not only did her expressions and mannerisms in the video say “sweetheart”, but I thought she was quite cute!

    And I thought she was right on the money with her message– there have already been real deaths or suicides that resulted from cyber-bullying on social media sites, as not all people are lucky enough to have good friends and family to help them through it. People seriously need to give that more consideration. You can cite the old saying “sticks and stones…” but the fact is that words are a form of communication, and communication has meaning. So be careful what you say or type– someone somewhere will remember it.
