  The little rascals (Ho and Mohammad) are only 35 miles short of space. (But the Toronto news doesn’t know that)
  Lots of aircraft have reached 80,000′ in the last 30 years.
  The now defunct Space Shuttle even switched over from thrusters to aerodynamic controls at 75.8 miles (122km) on it’s reentry profile.
  It’s a cute stunt, but no where near space.

  Does the atmosphere when compressed, accelerated and blasted at supersonic/subsonic speeds past a fixed airfoil have the same properties as still air?

  The wing is pushed through still air.
  There is no air rushing over or under the wing.
  The air is stationary.
