  • I thought the exact same thing, RayoxB!

  • Technically a two-year old would absorb more information than a ten-year old because of the way our brains form in the first five years of our lives. (It’s really remarkable at how rapid our brain develops in those first five years – other than in the womb, it doesn’t grow that fast at any other point in our life. To look at some of our government officials, I’d say theirs stopped around 2 years old.)

However, I understand completely your point.

You said, “To put your children into the hands of this system is a failing on your part for which there is no excuse.” To which I say, I agree. At first your comment pissed me off – essentially, you’re telling me I’m failing at being a parent – but I realized it only bothered me because it held truth to it. Gotta love those moments.

I will continue to fight the CCSS – whether my kids are in the public school system or in our living room.

As a side note: Your mom sounds like a resourceful and wonderful woman – I bet you’re proud of her. :)

  • BurdenedSoul – there are a lot of people pulling their kids out of public school and homeschooling them. Personally speaking, that’s not an option for us. I cannot afford homeschool for 5 kids. It’s just not an option right now. In the meantime, I fight what I know is wrong and stand behind things that are right.

So, it’s not that every person choosing to fight against CCSS instead of pulling their kids out of school isn’t ‘smart’. It’s just that perhaps homeschooling is NOT an option for everyone. I am the breadwinner in the family – if my income goes away, it’s safe to assume that our home will too. Or perhaps our vehicles.

Believe me…I truly want to homeschool my kids.

  • Montgomery county.
I’m really curious to hear what the teachers thoughts are on CCSS. You’ll have to let me know the progress you’ve made with the cease and desist – and incorporating them is a very creative idea.

  • That may be the results here, as well. We’re in NC.
    We shall see.

  • When an opponent declares, “I will not come over to your side,” I calmly say, “Your child belongs to us already… What are you? You will pass on. Your descendants, however, now stand in the new camp. In a short time they will know nothing else but this new community.”

  • I have 5 kids and recently sent in the Opt Out of Common Core form. Yesterday I received a phone call from the Director of Elementary Education for our county. Per my request, she sent home a LOT of paperwork for me to look over. (Their old curriculum and the current CCSS for each of the grades my kids are in (3rd, 4th and 8th)). She wants me to look it over and choose a meeting time for us, as well as, both principals and perhaps the superintendent. I’ll also request the kids teachers to be present since I’ll need specifics on what is being taught – not the generalized information that was sent home.

I am trying my hardest to be an ‘expert’ on the program. I have my i’s dotted, but still working on crossing my t’s. I have reached out to other parents, but sadly, most of the parents in my community are illegal (or don’t speak English) and don’t want any attention drawn to them.

I know I’m not in this alone – but in this specific district, I am very much one voice in a sea of people trying to ‘sell’ the program or look the other way. The phone conversation I had truly turned my stomach; “it prepares the children for college, career and how they will better affect society”; “we expand how they think”; etc.

My kids even know what CCSS is – they keep me informed on who they learned about that day, methods in math, etc. They’re not allowed to bring home their text books, but they bring their paperwork home with them.

  • Dear Hypocritical Neighbor,
I’m so pleased that you’ve taken an interest in my vehicle and the sticker on it. I can understand your concern with the NRA sticker (they’ve been known to jump off vehicles directly onto people’s faces and suffocate them while shouting obscenities about upholding and honoring our Constitutional Rights). Silly stickers.
Rest assured – if you stay away from me, my yard and my personal property – that mean ‘ol sticker will not attack your face. As for my guns, I’m keeping them close by…you said there was a crazy lunatic in the neighborhood!
    Love,

  • SQUIDVETOHIO: I was merely using the Salem Witch Trials as an example. And correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe it was longer than 3 weeks. In 1688, Goody Glover was hanged for bewitching 2 kids (can’t remember their names now). Four years later, in 1692, the last person was killed (I can’t remember how he died, but it wasn’t at the gallows). Finally, at the beginning of 1693 the remaining prisoners being held on witchcraft charges were released. If I’m mistaken, please let me know.
