  Freevoice, not all 11 year-old kids are incompetent. Remember the 11 year old girl in Montana that shot 2 intruders a year or two ago? There are many youth capable of handling weapons and more would be capable if parents and adults wouldn’t run in the corner and hide whenever someone makes a PC statement. The irresponsibility lies with you for making a blanket assumption laced with the atrophic poison of political correctness.

  Seriously, What is your point? Homosexual scout masters for everyone? The issue is not only about potential child abuse, but also about MORALITY (that has already been pointed out) and whether or not the BSA will be forced to associate with people, acts and ideals that we profoundly disagree with, find repugnant as well as destructive to society. (Again, these evidences are easy to see, anecdotally, historically and scientifically).
  The other thing you fail to understand is that the BSA has an oath of doing ones Duty to God and God has, in no uncertain terms, condemned the activity as well as though who engage in it. There is no place in a healthy society for homosexuality, let alone the BSA.

  Also Harry, please do not try to ‘channel’ scouting values. There is such a thing as Freedom of Association and the Boy Scouts are to free to limit their memberships to those who desire to serve God and be straight. I’ve been involved in Scouting for 18 years and none of OUR rules say that we have to accept anyone for any reason.
  You are free to associate with whomever you like, and the BSA is not beating down your door demanding to be included in….whatever. So, let us have OUR rules as WE see fit, you start your own Gay Scouts of CA/NY/WI or wherever, have YOUR rules as YOU see fit and we’ll get along just fine. From a distance.

  Actually Harry, homosexuality is immoral as defined by two sources. First and foremost is God, whom I’m sure you don’t believe in. But if you do, read Romans chapter 1.
  The other source is Webster: Immorality: 1. Violating moral principles; not conforming to the patterns of conduct usually accepted or established as consistent with principles of personal and social ethics.
  2. licentious or lascivious.
  As far as definition #1 goes, the CDC claims that Homosexual men make up 2% of the population. (http://www.cdc.gov/hiv/topics/msm/index.htm) (You may also notice that gay 2% accounts for 61% of new HIV cases and are more susceptible to syphilis, gonorrhea and chlamydia. BTW, more disease=bad/immoral behavior) No word on percentages of lesbians. Let’s assume there are twice as many of them. Therefore, we have 6% of the population that turns itself on. So then, 94% of the population in the United States is attracted to the opposite sex and not their reflection. I’m going to assume that that the larger group will decide what is normal, accepted and moral based on how they conduct their lives under the social structure of the nuclear family.
  As far as definition #2 goes, I have never seen a LGBT forum that postulated about Man’s insignificance as compared to the heavenly cosmos. In fact, most of them are about converting straights, anal vs. oral, toys vs. tongues, etc. etc. Therefore, both definition #1 and #2 apply to homosexuality and therefore…it is immoral

  Surprising that I agree with the NYT, although for opposite reasons. The unprincipled part is that the BSA is considering the change because of MONEY. Nevermind that homosexuality is immoral and contradicts being morally straight AND is in direct opposition to doing ones Duty to God, but the BSA is ignoring a century of strict principles, their own aims of building character and citizenship in youth, as well as destroying their own credibility in teaching youth “to make ethical choices throughout their lifetime.” If the ban is lifted, the BSA will have demonstrated that caving to public opinion for the sake of money is their greatest value. If the current leadership isn’t corrected or replaced, I predict they will lose far more membership than they could ever hope to gain.
  For you rabid homosexual appeasers I remind you of Romans chapter 1 and the decrees of God. Also know that no amount of twisting God’s command to “love one another” will justify the perversions of His procreative power.

  When Obama surrounds himself with unconstitutional bureaucrats, many who should have been/have been convicted of felonius activity and who spout communist dogma, he will always be suspect. Too bad you haven’t noticed that.
