    In reply to smark.

If he would have said “Alah Akbar, off with homosexuals heads” the teachers would have done nothing, zero, nada.

  • A perfect example of useful idiot.

  • Such is the mind set of a woman whose pay/income/wealth comes from the confiscation of other peoples money through taxes. By getting on the inside, like the Pelosi reference by MIBUGNU2, to confiscate even more.
Why do you think politicians want to raise taxes? It diverts money from the private sector through the greedy hands of the politicians.
The worst enemy of a politician is someone making it on his or her own. The politician HAS to have dependents. The politician HAS to have divisions among people, this group against that group. Classes in other words.
Ask yourself who’s going to get any richer, who’s lot in life will improve when the rich have even more money confiscated from them? Yours or my pay going to go up? Prices are going to come down? Nope. Only people in political power will see that money and distribute it amongst their crony friends and only crumbs will get to the “people” to continue to buy their votes.
Remember: “socialism is for the people, not the socialists.”
    Politicians HATE your freedom.

  • Someone had an eleven foot pole.

  • I stand corrected, only the four states I mentioned above had written declarations of causes
of seccesion. The others had ordinances of secession.

I didn’t word my response very well. I totally agree with the you and Alina regrarding the motives and complete disregard of the constitution by the federal government and the motives of some abolishinists groups. The seceding states had every right to secede and had a duty to secede given the fact that “Lincoln had changed the conditions of union and altered the articles of agreement.” (Hon. J.L.M. Curry, LL.D. writting the Legal Justifacation of the South in Secession)
My point is slavery was the issue wether it was from the standpoint of consitutionally protected states rights regarding property or the issue which could unite all states east and west, which were north of the slave line, and which could strike a blow at Southern supremacy on its most vulnerable point.
The slave issue was going to bite them in the arse one way or the other.

That being said I say secede. Look at the role our consitution has today with this corrupt federal government. It has effectivley been ruled null and void by the actions of the feds. The rules of union have been trampled.

  • Regarding the submarines, I recently went to the restoration site in Charleston for the confederate sub Hunley. It was awesome. The story behind the history and evolution of the subs is fascinating. The Hunley was the thrid sub built and the first in history to sink a ship.
This site gives you great info on the sub and its crew. http://www.hunley.org/

  • Alina,
Agree with most of what you say, BUT, the slavery issue was the tipping point and cause of seccesion. Just read the articles of seccesion from Georgia, Mississippi, South Carolina, Texas, etc.
This is from the South Carolina declaration of cause for seccision regarding the election of Lincolns party:
“On the 4th day of March next, this party will take possession of the Government. It has announced that the South shall be excluded from the common territory, that the judicial tribunals shall be made sectional, and that a war must be waged against slavery until it shall cease throughout the United States.”
Read those causes of seccesion and you will see that yes, the federal government was being sectional but the slavery issue was foremost.
The south was prosperous and expanding into the new territories. The north feared the growing influence of the south so with the feds help said new territories have to be non-slave therefore attempting to shut down the growth and influence of the south. (At the same time abolishinists did have a point about the sins of slavery)
And by the way, the war was started by Lincoln, not the south as some believe.

  • Getting off the damn thing is the trouble.
