What’s the ‘Flipped Learning’ Model That’s Revolutionizing How Kids Are Taught Across the Country?
January 29, 2013 at 2:31pm
I’m on your side, my union sucks. If I could avoid the union I would, but they have a stranglehold in PA. I’m pushing for right-to-work here. I’m the least popular guy on staff when elections come around. I never “apprenticed” for a trade, but I’ve had to do my share of labor long before I ever taught. Notice the 10 years teaching and 47 years old? This a second, even third career. It’s a pain in the **** fighting from the inside, but I try to instill better character in my kids and students than my colleagues. If we plan on making change, we need people inside.
What’s the ‘Flipped Learning’ Model That’s Revolutionizing How Kids Are Taught Across the Country?
January 29, 2013 at 7:48am
I teach 7th grade science, if I can do this in my classroom I would love it! I have said for years that we expect kids to learn like we did, and its just not possible. I’m 47 and have been teaching for 10 years. When I was in the private sector I learned by doing and making mistakes to get better. We still rely too much on reading text and taking notes in class. If kids are doing this at home, we can do the more appropriate hands-on learning in class. Let’s face it; the kids today have never known a world without instant information. To expect them to grasp material in 20 minutes of reading aloud and taking notes is becoming unreasonable. This will allow us to create a more “training based” learning environment. I think it would model the real world better and let teachers push for problem solving and self-reliance. This is almost an apprentice situation, learning from the expert with real-world applications.
Glock Releases New Pro-Gun Commercial That’s Sure to Make Gun Owners Smile
January 24, 2013 at 12:06pm
Among other parts of these commercials I like the biometric safes. It shows responsible gun ownership and the proper way to avoid children accidentally getting a gun in their hands. My wife wanted a safe for our home defense shotgun (she won), but I won in keeping it close to the bed. We both agreed on the plan of one calling 911 and getting to the kids as the other gets the gun and stands guard. While it would be best to exterminate the vermin, I think a confrontation is the last resort. I hope these run during the Super Bowl.
Now You Can Watch the Full-Length NRA Vid Slamming ‘Hypocrite’ Obama
January 17, 2013 at 12:12pm
Here’s an idea: Arm me. I am a middle school teacher, willing to defend myself and my school. I am an NRA member, trained with handguns, and comfortable with their use. Get the proper certifications, etc. and I’ll keep a firearm in a biometric safe in my room. As a last defense I will be there before the police.
Or…when building schools from now on, (or as an addition) build a police substation in it. Each substation would have the ability to do police administration functions, help with traffic control and protect the schools. Every town has schools and police stations, why not combine the two? The station would not house criminals, be the main police station or have a large force (1-2 officers and admin staff). Larger district means larger town means more buildings, but also the need for more police anyway.
Be Inspired: Watch a Boy With Cerebral Palsy Run a Quarter Mile in a Field Day Event

Having coached middle school sports (boys and girls) for 10 years, I was awed. Matt pushed the limits of a “weaker” body with a powerful heart and mind. Most of my athletes will work hard, but only a few push the limits, and too many want nothing to do with hard work and going above and beyond. Unfortunately, we have created a generation where many kids feel that showing up and doing some work is to be rewarded.
Thank you to Matt, his teachers, classmates and especially his parents. Without good parenting, Matt is a “poor, unfortunate kid”, now he is an inspiration!
Jail Time for Insulting Obama? Student Who Stood Up to Outrageous Teacher Speaks for First Time
May 22, 2012 at 12:14pm
I teach 7th grade. Teachers WILL bully kids about their counter-liberal points of view. It’s intimidation. Tell your kids to speak up, respectfully and calmly. Eventually the teachers will be flushed out for their open bias. If the kids have facts, remain calmer than the teachers and don’t fall into the traps, we will prevail. I keep my views (conservative) out of the classroom, they should also.
Children of Paralyzed Afghan Veteran Punished for Wearing Pro-Military T-Shirts to School
April 27, 2012 at 1:23pm
I’m a public school teacher in a school without a dress code. Around election time it can suck with all the pro-leftist chatter from the union. Our students wear pro-military, go-green, support _________, whatever. I love and respect our military, have pro-military stuff in my room (and a Gadsden Flag sticker), and ALWAYS promote the brave men and women who serve us. If we had a dress code that forbade t-shirts, they would be asked to comply. I like the idea of the book covers, back-packs, etc. to get the message out. I bet if the parents wanted to do a fundraiser, the school would pass out materials and lend its support. This is Texas we’re talking about, the community will probably rally to the cause while respecting the school’s rules. I wouldn’t be surprised if this helps Homes for Our Troops.
Self-Defense? Vid Shows Israeli Soldier Striking Pro-Palestinian Activist Across the Face with M-16
April 16, 2012 at 12:11pm
These activists are either ill-informed or provoking a fight. The Israeli soldiers are on constant alert because of constant threats. They will act on a threat. The terrorists have no problem blowing up themselves and their followers in order to take out Israelis. These clowns are after this type of footage to promote a false idea of Israeli abuses. Remember, if Israelis lay down their arms they will be slaughtered, if the Palestinians, Hamas, etc. lay down their arms they would enjoy prosperity and peace. The world is upside-down!

‘Told That We Had Nothing to Worry About’: Parents Sue for ‘Wrongful Birth’ After Daughter Born With Down Syndrome
March 9, 2012 at 2:57pm
We have 4 children and never had a test for genetic disorders. My wife and I agreed that we would accept what God gives us. How do you face a child that you resent so much? “We would have killed you had we known you would be like this”…nice message, get that on the birthday cards. So selfish.
