  • This is a false premise. The Active Duty military cannot be used for law enforcement. National Guard can and should. Why do we spend the money militarizing our police forces when the states already have military assets than can be used in law enforcement roles? When civil order breaks down to the point where the rule of law has become impotent then it is the mayor’s duty to request National Guard forces to restore order. I believe that in areas of high gang activity and violent crimes it is a dereliction of duty for the local government not to request additional support in restoring the rule of law. It is unacceptable that citizens of our country must live under the constant threat of violence no matter what their economic status is.

  • Then your are an idiot that will bring about the collapse of this country. Never disengage your mind. Always listen look and interpret what you ingest from an incident to come up with a conclusion. This may not be the guy, it seems to be another Misha.

  • Wow, is this news? This is not the guy. Keep looking for someone else.

  • This might have been a pain with the serial numbers. I don’t think many people would immediately know it was a bible verse and may have added it to their property books with the longer serial number. I wouldn’t get too worked up about this one. There are plenty of real attacks on religion in the army to worry about.

  • @JDR Exactly. Almost every one I meet who studies religion from classes in college come away from the classes less religious than they went in. Normal religious study will challenge and then allow you to strengthen your beliefs. These classes seem designed to marginalize, criticize and diminish faith.

    In reply to kchercmech.

I have a compromise. How about we fix the federal government’s income? Perhaps we could pass say a flat or fair tax amendment with previsions to limit government’s ability to incur debt and print money. Then we pay for all of the constitutionally mandated government programs like the military, post office, legal system etc. After all of that is fully funded what ever is left can either be saved in the treasury, reinvested, used to pay for non mandated programs (dep of energy or whatever) or used for welfare, medicare, etc.

  • We will never win another war until we stop being scared of them. The phrase ‘war begins when diplomacy fails’ is idiotic. The choice to go to war should be interchangeable among our diplomatic options and used when appropriate and justified. Some actions should trigger an immediate, overwhelming and short term military action. If we view war as ‘a last resort’ and the same as failure then is it any surprise that when we find ourselves in a state of war we don’t really know what we are doing or trying to achieve?

  • Wow really? Suck it up kid. My teacher did that to me when I was in third grade for forgetting books for homework. I learned to bring the right books home. Glad to hear there are still consequences at some schools. This shouldn’t be news.

  • ‘Unemployment checks to veterans who left voluntarily’ – meaning the pentagon offered these Soldiers a payout to leave early rather than stay on until retirement.

The whole budget debate is a fraud. No one can look at line items on a balance sheet and arbitrarily start decreeing one program is useless and another is noble. Accountability needs to be placed on the heads of these organizations to make these cuts in the manner which
    1. focuses on the agency’s core mandate
    2. Increases efficiency within the organization
    3. minimizes impact on member/employee benefits, compensation etc.
    4. If all programs are essential than the budget should be reduced by an equal amount – i.e. 1%, 10% or whatever.

Any Agency Head or department head who is unable or unwilling to make these cuts should be summarily dismissed and a new head installed.

  • According to this 67.5% of murders are performed by firearms. This would make it appear that the only reason they are going after assault weapons is because it is low hanging fruit. If they win the argument there it will be their foothold to ban more types of hand guns and shot guns.

The debate should not focus on the tools but the criminality. There is no context for the 12,996 murders last year. How many were a result of organized crime? Either drug related, gang related etc.? Is there an illegal immigrant / human trafficking aspect to this? We need to recenter this debate on what effects us. This whole gun argument is a distraction. Anyone who honestly brings up banning rifles should rightfully be ridiculed and ignored. Then we should move the debate forward to the real issues affecting our country.
