Pastor Who Stunned Christians With Gay Marriage Endorsement Explains: Believers Are ‘Not Inclusive on This Issue…They Are Homophobic’
April 4, 2013 at 3:10pm
Jim S is right on track. Gays should have the same LEGAL rights as hetero couples with regards to property rights and tax law. As you can see by this article, there are Christian leaders that believe in same sex marriage. If a gay couple can find a priest that will marry them in the “eyes of God”, then that is between the couple, the priest and God. YOU need to stay out of it. You don’t have to like it, you don’t have to be a member of that community of believers but you do have to respect the constitution and the RIGHT of others to practice their religion without discrimination.
‘Thump the Bible’: Bill O’Reilly and Laura Ingraham Clash in Explosive Gay Marriage Debate

Secular meaning we have a freedom to NOT be bible thumping Christians who oppress and discriminate against those who don’t see God, love, or religion in general in the same way. Our constitution protects those who don’t see “your” view of religion…or morality. We need to respect that in some religions God doesn’t have a problem with gays marrying…in fact some don’t believe God even exists. Luckly, the constitution protects this way of thinking and you need to stop pushing your blinded Christianity on those who are not Christian. If straight couples can have a binding union recognized by the State, then so should gay couples. STOP BIBLE THUMPING your views into public policy.

I too am sick of Christian “Conservatives” who piss on the constitution by thumping their bibles as O’Reilley clearly points out. Even within Christendom there are differing theologies regarding same sex marriage not to mention those American citizens that choose to have no religion. The first amendment is CLEAR!!! We have a freedom to believe and practice our religion freely. Bible thumpers who deny fellow Americans the RIGHT to live and love and follow into a personal covenant between them and their God shall not be denied!!! We must respect differing views in religion when it comes to public policy. We don’t have to force OUR pastors to marry couples they find objectionable but we shall not stop the couple from seeking out a priest or pastor or civil servant who will marry them. Your religion is yours, NOT mine. You will NOT take away might RIGHT under the constitution because you are uncomfortable with my PRIVATE religious choices. If you can find any other reason, outside the bible to deny equality with regards to civil unions I would like to hear it.
Is It Time for the GOP to Abandon Social Conservatism?

Are you really advocating the firing of employees based on political affiliation? Wow…we have fallen far to right for me…so far right that we sound like the far left. How you can claim to be an advocate of freedom and liberty and at the same time fire a person with a differing opinion? You really need to take a good look in the mirror. This is NOT my country.

@ gridlock812 Dude we lost. Something’s got to give. We say we value life yet we kill. We follow eye for an eye philosophy. For a party that says we value life, we sure are hypocritical. If you stay stubborn and don’t reflect on this we will not grow as a party or a movement. Instead our numbers will grow increasingly smaller until we are no more.
Use Jesus as an example. He was put to death under the umbrella of capital punishment. It’s too bad the Romans didn’t just lock people up. Am I comparing a felon to Jesus? Yes and no, we are all children of God and have an unalienable right to life. Even those that are the worst among us.
Change this political position and it’s one less piece of ammunition the left can use against us…and it’s the right thing to do.

Kids ages 14-18 don’t see a threat in letting gays marry. However they do see Republicans and Christian conservatives as denying human and civil rights to an entire class of people. How can we expect to gain their support when we legislate from the Bible? Last time I checked we had a freedom of religion in this country yet we continue to persecute gays on Christian religious grounds. You don’t have to like gays, but you do need to protect their right to love one and other.

As far as abortion goes, moderates see hypocrisy with Republicans. On one hand we protect life. On the other hand we support the death penalty. This has to change. If we are going to protect life, then let’s do it!! Get rid of the death penalty. Lock those bastards up and throw away the key. Heck, we save money by ending the 20 year legal battle with death row inmates in the process.
If we decide the death penalty is valid and does more good than harm, then I suggest we reevaluate our prolife position. Not everyone agrees with us on abortion. That doesn’t mean we have to stop encouraging our kids to believe in protecting the life of the unborn, but it does mean we need to stop dictating our Christian beliefs on life to those that believe something else.
To me, the right choice would be protecting life, including those on death row. That at least gives us consistency. An eye for an eye is SO Old Testament. We need to evolve our position. We also need to stop fighting abortion legislation in cases of rape and health. This compromise would go a long way.

I think we need to make a distinction between social conservatives and Christian conservatives. Republicans need to recognize that not every voter is Christian. When we vote with our bibles, we alienate the rest of society. Gay rights is a civil rights issue to moderates and the youth. Christian conservatives see it as an abomination and sinful. Most gays I know are fiscal conservatives but they refuse to vote Republican because we refuse to offer them equality regarding marriage. This issue really comes down to love…something you would think a Christian would understand. Two consenting adults showing love for each other should not be illegal. As a libertarian I would say get the government out of the marriage business altogether. As Republicans we need to say, I will protect your right to think and love different than me. I don’t have to embrace your homosexuality but I do have to protect your rights. Currently now we alienate 10% of the voting population because of this issue. We need to start thinking of this as a human rights issue and a religious freedom issue. Gays believe something different than us and they don’t see their love as sinful in the eyes of God. We must protect that. Until we do, we will not win another national election.
