  @wisdom7: “Why is it okay to force straight boys to shower with homosexual boys in schools?” So do you actually think that gay boys should be forced to use separate showers in school PE/gym class? Granted as a gay-leaning bisexual I was actually uncomfortable showering where other boys could see me when I was in middle school; I think all the showers should have had privacy curtains.

  And how are you going to tell which boys are gay and straight? Seriously, what is WRONG with your reasoning on this one?

  If you’re so bothered by it, why not just abolish collectively-exposed shower rooms in the schools so NOBODY has to feel uncomfortable about anything?

  So a tea party leader is charged with making threats after….actually making threats. Great! He’s finally showing the world that contrary to the image they present as moral, freedom-loving patriots, the Right Wing is loaded with radical thugs and conspiracy theorists. I have a feeling that Gerhart is just the tip of an ugly iceberg. Who knows….maybe the fact that he’s finally getting the “persecution” he deserves will drag more radical right wing thuggery out into the open, helping to discredit the movement.

  Wrong, Ms. Jessup. Telling local governments that they can’t require calorie disclosures on foods is anti-freedom. It’s the state government bullying counties and cities around and tying their legislative hands. You know, kind of like the Federal government bullying state governments around and saying they can’t legalize marijuana or regulate vehicle emission standards?

  This proud progressive concedes that banning big sodas is probably not the way to go, and I felt this way long before the judge overruled the ban.

  HOWEVER, I’m 150% in favor of putting taxes on sugary soda pop and other junk foods, and on eliminating all farm subsidies for high-fructose corn syrup. We need to change the economic incentives to make healthy foods comparatively more affordable relative to junk food.

  O’Keefe was lauded by every right-wing pundit out there – and I’m sure that ‘You People’ cheered him on every step of the way too.

  But now his underhanded tactics used to unfairly destroy ACORN have come back to haunt him. This should be a sign of just how corrupt and petulant the Right’s tactics have become. It’s too bad that Andrew Breitbart had to die when he did – I would have LOVED to see him brought to his knees by tons of lawsuits and even criminal charges!

  More proof that “culture war” politics is turning into a losing battle due to changing mores. Campaigning against Harry Potter or Heather Has Two Mommies or Origin of Species doesn’t get you the votes it once did. Republicans ignore this new reality at their peril!
