  Maybe I don’t understand the new math, but a flat tax is where everyone pays the same percentage and no deductions are taken. Maybe someone can explain how 15% of 50k a year is more than 15% of 250k a year, and how the guy who forfeits more deductions pays less.

  Well, I’m sure this must be news to the tens of thousands of witnesses who actually saw people with blown off limbs squirting blood everywhere. And it it was a conspiracy, I’m impressed with the thousands of people who would have to be in on it to keep it covered up- the EMS staff, law enforcement, the actors, the hospitals’-assuming, of course, they were real hospitals and not fake ones built just for the occasion- that all those people would be able to keep a secret, and all of them would support this massive ruse to ….well…to….um…well, why, exactly?

  Really, Joe? So, one of the provision sis background checks to screen for the “mentally ill.” How will you define “mentally ill”, Joe, and who will do it? Will it be someone who was prescribed anti-depressants, even for migraines? Or anyone who has ever talked to a counselor or psychologist about a personal problem? How about people in AA, NA, CA, or any other behavioral recovery group? How about veterans who have ever been diagnosed with PTSD?

  More importantly, Jowe, how will government find any of this out to deny someone a gun? Do you think the mentally ill are going to admit it? Your only other option is to get the info yourself. How will you do that without violating the Constitution? Hmmm? ir

  I would say to them “it’s a bummer that you are depressed. Life is awful sometimes, unfair most of the time, and painful to the point of despair. But the thing is, as temporary as the good times are, so too are the bad ones. Thing change all the time from good to bad to good again, to bad again, like a pendulum. We have no control over these events. We do have control over how we respond to them, though, and if your problem is a physical or biological one, we can keep looking for the treatment until we find something that helps. One thing I would impress upon you is that suicide may provide relief from your own personal hell, but what you don’t realize is that it creates a personal hell for those you leave behind that never ever heals. So if your aim is to share and inflict your misery on those whom you profess to love, then by all means,end it all.If you care about them, please don’t.”

  I say this as someone whose mother killed herself when I was 12 and whose wife’s little brother killed himself when he was barely 18.

  It’s not complicated. I just saw it. Out here in the Bay Area, Obama was using the gun control issue to raise money for democrats. Krauthammer is right- Obama has already lost, for now. But that hasn’t stopped him from demagoguing the issue to raise money (4 million this week from Bay Area residents alone) and telling blatant lies to do it. He stated that the Sandy Hook shooter used a “fully automatic assault rifle” when he did no such thing. He is either tragically misinformed or a shameless liar, neither of which are admirable qualities in a President. But that’s what Krauthammer meant when he said “Obama just wants the money.”
