You cannot control free will, no matter how well intentioned you are. God Himself does not wish this on us. People have tried, failed, get frustrated, then resort to totalitarianism. By sneaking in “obligated” as you put it, the pope is playing with fire, a very ungodly fire.

I appreciate the concern. However these verses have even more to do with giving per free will since rewards from God we are not worthy of, so how much less worthy are we if our giving is done because we felt obligated?! King David refused to offer up sacrafices to God from that which cost him nothing. Likewise “giving” due to obligation is empty, it is giving when we don’t have to give that is driven by love.

God warned Israel against a monarchy due to its inherent corruptions and that His people should look to Him, not a king. Nevertheless He obliged. Consider that for a moment, that God still gave His blessing knowing His people were forewarned and that they were ultimately doomed. Heartbreaking. The Catholic church is modeled in much the same way and is susceptible to the same corruptions. It’s only a matter of time.

I was truely hoping you’d sway my decision. Unfortunately, the Bible does not say anywhere that we are obligated to share our wealth with those less fortunate. It encourages it, but and ONLY by way of our free will on the giving end. The moment giving becomes obligatory is the moment it ceases to be a gift and the moment it becomes a form of taxation or an open door to impose a form of tax in the future. To slip obligation in there changes the game and opens the door to simply take it from you, afterall you are obligated. You’ve gotta wonder who will decide on how much is enough and what will they do when they feel you’re not “giving” enough. On the recieving end it instructs us in Proverbs not to accept gifts from a stingy person. Do they care to obey God’s word on this matter? Of course not.

  • Go figure. It’s called hollyweird and it’s filled with filthy communist marxist swine.

First comment appears to be removed. This pope is full of it! One of his councils have been open about “wealth redistribution.” I’ve already had doubts about the coruption of the Catholic church, now they are confirmed.
