  Thank you for becoming a better (armed) citizen of this great country. I would like to point out a common misconception in your post. The old West was not a more dangerous place because most folks carried firearms, but rather quite the opposite… It was a far safer place. We all seem to have this misconception because it is the one perpetuated by every Hollywood Western.

  Stats for you:

  Dodge City, Abilene, Wichita, Ellsworth and Caldwell, for the years from 1870 to 1885, there were only 45 total homicides. This equates to a rate of approximately 1 murder per 100,000 residents per year.

  The 2007 Uniform Crime Report statistics (Table 6) shows the following statistics for today’s “Gun Safe” cities:

  DC – 183 Murders (31 per 100,000 residents)
  New York – 496 Murders (6 per 100,000 residents)
  Baltimore – 282 Murders (45 per 100,000 residents)
  Newark – 104 Murders (37 per 100,000 residents)

  The Old West is starting to sound like a real improvement!

  9mm, .40 S&W or 45 ACP… No matter what I wear or where I go, one of these calibers is riding side-kick. This would be an entirely different story if my family or I were involved.

  All good people should get training, and exercise their 2nd Amendment rights immediately. The disintegration of social order is accelerating. You don’t want to wait until your family is engulfed in a similar crisis, where your only defense is a pathetic plea for reason or mercy.

  Bernbart… That would be an uninformed and stupid assumption. Let’s look at REAL statistics, which were compiled by the Texas Department of Public Safety. If we look at the latest report from 2009, we find the following information on CHL holders (Legal Gun Carriers):

  Total Convictions in Texas – 65,561
  Convictions of CHL Holders – 101
  CHL Holder Percentage of Total Convictions – 0.1541%

  Of all demographic segments of the Texas population measured each year, CHL (Legal Gun Carriers) have the lowest crime rate Per Capita.

  So much for your idiotic assumption.
