Ford Just Reported a 375% Increase in the Sale of This Type of Vehicle

Most hybrid vehicles in operation utilize a rechargeable battery – currently, most hybrids use a nickel-metal hydride battery – which reduces the amount of CO2 in the environment by decreasing the consumption of gasoline.
But while the reduction of CO2 is a positive environmental impact, mining rechargeable batteries releases other emissions and contaminants that are considered hazardous. The actual mines are exposed to air, which leads to weathering/erosion. This causes nickel, which is harmful to wildlife, to seep into soils. The smokestacks at these nickel mines release Sulfur Dioxide (SO2), which causes acid rain, effectively destroying the environment by upsetting the natural pH balance.
The end-life of batteries also poses a negative environmental impact. Traditional recycling factories cannot disassemble the batteries, nor can they burn them into useable sources of energy. While hybrid producing companies are becoming more aware of the issue by introducing recycling incentives and specialized recycling centers, batteries are often times sent to landfills. The metals in batteries do not rapidly degrade, and they consume more space in landfills even after compaction. These heavy metals also tend to precipitate and end up as leachate (i.e. the hazardous liquid waste produced in landfills). The nickel-metal hydride batteries used in hybrids contain Potassium Hydroxide (POH), a corrosive liquid that will inevitably become leachate in landfills. Every landfill lining

Rush Limbaugh said all the way back in Feb to watch the unemployment rate that it would drop under 8% in Sept or Oct because no president has ever been reelected with the rate over 8%. It appears that his crystal ball was working perfectly when he made that prediction.
