  @ David Sorry dear but Christ did not rename himself he renamed Simon to Peter the english translation of aramaic, Christ’s language, Caphus which means rock. I can get into the aramaic to Greek to english translation but I don’t want to take you into the weeds.

  @ David Remember Christ’s words on the cross? He gave his mother Mary to the world. “Behold your mother” Though Mary is not the way to Heaven she brings us to her son as she said at the wedding at Canna ” Listen to what He tells you”. She is our Heavenly Mother and I for one after my biological mother passed was grateful and thankful to Our Savior Jesus Christ that I will always have our heavenly mother blessed Mary. As Mary said in the gospel “generations will call me blessed”.

  Pope Francis is not a mere high positioned official, he is the vicar of Christ and holds the keys to the kingdom. Please read with an open heart to the Holy Spirit Mathew 16:18-19. The Holy Spirit will reveal the truth.

  Mathew 16:18 “Though art Peter (rock) and on this rock I will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail. I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven….” In those days the king gave the keys to the kingdom to the vicar until the king returned. Peter was given the keys to Christ’s church, His kingdom on earth, until He returns on the last day. Peter as the first Pope passes the keys down in succession. Now Pope Francis is Christ’s vicar.

  What basis are you using to make this statement? As a cradle catholic who reads the bible almost daily I take umbrage with your statement.

  I must interject here to all christians regarding the bible. First the bible was compiled in the late 300 AD by the catholic church, Christ’s church. The Pope is only infallible regarding church doctrine not as a man as he is a sinner like all of mankind. Third if you truly know the bible and are seeking the truth please ask the Holy Spirit to guide you while reading MT:16 and John: 6. If after you have read these scriptures and you are still not clear on Christ’s teachings might I suggest that you read them 2 more times aloud and slowly. Also how can you be faithful to the Lord and believe that our Lord would leave us without a church which, as we see today brings only chaos and derisiveness and multiple interpertations of the Word of God because of a lack of authority? Our Lord did not want chaos He wanted unity hence he gave us His church, the catholic church.
