Wow, it’s about time. As a taxpayer, this is precisely what I want my tax contributions going for — helping my fellow Americans who need a hand during times like this. Both parties should be ashamed it took this long.
You're not too bright there Gourdy, first you think we have a two part system and secondly you think taxpayers should pay billions of dollars for a bailout? Wow I've seen some stupid comments on here but you get the blue ribbon.
I pay for homeowners insurance, mortgage insurance, automobile insurance, business insurance, workers compensation, unemployment insurance and now I'm paying for Snookie's insurance? GOURDY, are you serious? Pull your head out brother (or sister, as the case may be) and see the light. This is pure bull sh/t.
GOURDY: There is absolutely nothing wrong with "helping my fellow Americans who need a hand during times like this". In fact, I encourage anyone and everyone to help whenever and however they can. However, I do it on a voluntary basis. I don't need Barry or anyone else telling me its my duty to help. This is nothing more than forced redistribution.

Would you want straight Scout leaders to “force” their sexuality on your grandkids? Admittedly, I don’t know much about the Scouts, but are straight adults actually talking about sex, marriage, etc in Scouting activities? If yes, then something’s wrong there.

I can’t believe people find this so shocking. Facebook has access to all your photos and content…….all supplied voluntarily.

I’ve read that their movements are so tightly controlled that leaving their home areas without authorization is essentially a death sentence. That country is sad beyond belief.
January 28, 2013 at 6:34pm
Wrong! The Scouts themselves were hiding over 1200 allegations of child rape within their ranks for years.

Although interesting, what’s the practical point of this when we have DNA testing?
It would have helped immensely getting Bill Clinton impeached. Combined with the blue dress, they probably could have gotten some really good plaster knee impressions from the carpet in the oval office.
And speaking of Bill Clinton.
They finally found out why Hillary was getting dizzy and falling.
The official Toxicology Report indicates:
Acute cigar poisoning.

Of course they should! Plenty of countries such as Canada, France, Germany, and Australia allow women in frontline combat roles. To my knowledge, none of the concerns people mention here have been issues.
January 28, 2013 at 5:21pm
Wow, and anyone finds this shocking or surprising in some way? There is no way to control this.

Oh, yeah! The best hot sauce I’ve ever used on wings is Franks. Go Niners!

The secret files held by the Scouts released last year (and it was for only a 20 year period between 1965-85) listed 1200 leaders reported for abuse. That’s no small number, and I’d wager it’s just the tip of the iceberg considering it’s 100 year or so history.
January 28, 2013 at 5:01pm
Hmmm…I’m not sure of the significance of this list. I think a more interesting study would be how particular cities live the teachings of Jesus in the forms of charitable giving, volunteerism, child abuse stats, etc. Reading the Bible is all well and good, but putting faith into action is the real measure.

The Scouts are far from the wholesome organization we’ve been taught them to be. For decades, they harbored pedophile leaders and volunteers much the way the Catholic Church, Penn State, etc. etc. etc. protected the organization instead of protecting innocents. Maybe this change will bring about more transparency.
Incidents within the Boy Scouts were rare and isolated. Those involved are inexcusable. But to categorize all of Scouting by referencing the deplorable actions of a few is incredibly dishonest.

That is absolutely not true...source. The types of incident you describe were extremely rare, so rare as to be lower than the average of the normal population which inters scouting may be a beneficial organization to "prevent" or keep young boys from being abused. Don't lay your lame brain liberal BS on us.
and those are the straight guys!

I think that view is somewhat of a fantasy. It didn’t work at Columbine where they had 2 armed guards, and one actually shot at those two kids but couldn’t stop them. And look what happened at Fort Hood — that was a military base!

katzkiner, I’m attempting to legislate utopia. We have laws against driving too fast, kids not using helmets while on bikes, using seatbelts, etc. For the most part, guns are designed to kill people, unlike cars or bikes which are for transportation. Why wouldn’t we put some restrictions on their use? That’s not a utopian belief at all — it’s a society’s use of commonsense.

It looks tasty.

Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword (Matthew 26:52, King James Version)
This is one of those Bible quotes that I never could figure out..... Most of those who "take up the sword" or who bear arms don't die from doing so. They go home to their families and live out their lives as peaceful citizens. I've never understood why this verse is quoted by some when we hear of situations like this murder. Guess I just haven't studied the Bible enough to truly understand....

You don’t seriously believe the habit of tipping was invented by socialistic democrat restaurant workers looking to get handouts, do you? I find it hard to believe there are no conservative servers or bartenders in America. Honestly, I’ve never run into one who said, “Sorry, sir, I can’t accept this tip because it offends my political sensibilities.”
January 9, 2013 at 2:03pm
Yeah, I agree! If I, as a regular customer, want to show my appreciation to a favorite waiter or bartender, I can give him/her a Christmas gift just like I do the paper delivery guy and my letter carrier.
January 9, 2013 at 2:01pm
Yes, because the tradition of tipping in America began on January 20, 2009 when Obama was sworn in (cue in sinister music).

I’m all for legal handgun and hunting rifle ownership — I own one 9mm. But these military-style rifles with high-capacity clips need to be outlawed. Case in point, the Aurora theater shooter shot 30 rounds in 27 seconds and killed 12 people, injuring scores. Even a determined psychopath can’t do that with a handgun.
Piece of cake with a shotgun. 12 gauge 3'' #4 buck 41 .24 cal projectiles per shot. You guys keep trying to legislate utopia, you always end up in hell. In a less than perfect world
conceal carry is the only rational option. And as for body armour, not many "warriors" are going to continue carefully aiming shots when 400 ft.lbs. are smacking into them. Utopia, like unicorns, does not exist.

@gourdy......the weapons he had required one pull of the trigger for one bullet fired. It is very unlikely that he pulled the trigger in less than second. AND, if he did tell me who had a stop watch and timed, much less saw, the number of bullets fired.
Where is your reference, other than media matters, for your stat??????? This is nothing moire than left wing emotional hype and propaganda.
Having a gun has saved my life and others several times. It is like insurance, you don't think about till you need it, then it is to late. You love your kids, pay the school a $100 a year to cover a cop on campus. 1000 parents X $ 100 =$ 100,000. More than enough.
Get a conceal carry for yourself and your wife, you've done all you can. The rest is feel good window dressing. I've seen what car bombs can do, I'll take my chances with an AR
wielding nut anyway. The most dangerous weapon is a sick mind.
