Wow, it’s about time. As a taxpayer, this is precisely what I want my tax contributions going for — helping my fellow Americans who need a hand during times like this. Both parties should be ashamed it took this long.

Would you want straight Scout leaders to “force” their sexuality on your grandkids? Admittedly, I don’t know much about the Scouts, but are straight adults actually talking about sex, marriage, etc in Scouting activities? If yes, then something’s wrong there.

I can’t believe people find this so shocking. Facebook has access to all your photos and content…….all supplied voluntarily.

I’ve read that their movements are so tightly controlled that leaving their home areas without authorization is essentially a death sentence. That country is sad beyond belief.

Wrong! The Scouts themselves were hiding over 1200 allegations of child rape within their ranks for years.

Although interesting, what’s the practical point of this when we have DNA testing?

Of course they should! Plenty of countries such as Canada, France, Germany, and Australia allow women in frontline combat roles. To my knowledge, none of the concerns people mention here have been issues.

Wow, and anyone finds this shocking or surprising in some way? There is no way to control this.

Oh, yeah! The best hot sauce I’ve ever used on wings is Franks. Go Niners!

The secret files held by the Scouts released last year (and it was for only a 20 year period between 1965-85) listed 1200 leaders reported for abuse. That’s no small number, and I’d wager it’s just the tip of the iceberg considering it’s 100 year or so history.

Hmmm…I’m not sure of the significance of this list. I think a more interesting study would be how particular cities live the teachings of Jesus in the forms of charitable giving, volunteerism, child abuse stats, etc. Reading the Bible is all well and good, but putting faith into action is the real measure.

The Scouts are far from the wholesome organization we’ve been taught them to be. For decades, they harbored pedophile leaders and volunteers much the way the Catholic Church, Penn State, etc. etc. etc. protected the organization instead of protecting innocents. Maybe this change will bring about more transparency.

I think that view is somewhat of a fantasy. It didn’t work at Columbine where they had 2 armed guards, and one actually shot at those two kids but couldn’t stop them. And look what happened at Fort Hood — that was a military base!

katzkiner, I’m attempting to legislate utopia. We have laws against driving too fast, kids not using helmets while on bikes, using seatbelts, etc. For the most part, guns are designed to kill people, unlike cars or bikes which are for transportation. Why wouldn’t we put some restrictions on their use? That’s not a utopian belief at all — it’s a society’s use of commonsense.

    It looks tasty.

Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword (Matthew 26:52, King James Version)

You don’t seriously believe the habit of tipping was invented by socialistic democrat restaurant workers looking to get handouts, do you? I find it hard to believe there are no conservative servers or bartenders in America. Honestly, I’ve never run into one who said, “Sorry, sir, I can’t accept this tip because it offends my political sensibilities.”

  • January 9, 2013 at 2:03pm

Yeah, I agree! If I, as a regular customer, want to show my appreciation to a favorite waiter or bartender, I can give him/her a Christmas gift just like I do the paper delivery guy and my letter carrier.

  • January 9, 2013 at 2:01pm

Yes, because the tradition of tipping in America began on January 20, 2009 when Obama was sworn in (cue in sinister music).

I’m all for legal handgun and hunting rifle ownership — I own one 9mm. But these military-style rifles with high-capacity clips need to be outlawed. Case in point, the Aurora theater shooter shot 30 rounds in 27 seconds and killed 12 people, injuring scores. Even a determined psychopath can’t do that with a handgun.
