Listen, as a police officer we are trained to respond with an appropriate level of force against whatever is being used against us. If someone wants to fight us hand to hand we go for our baton/ASP. If they have a pipe we can use our Taser. If they bring out a knife we can engage our sidearm. Most officers today have a baton, a can of mace, a taser, and a sidearm. Unless that dog was just like the rabbit from Monty Python’s Search for the Holy Grail the baton is all the officers would need. Smack the dog with that and it will usually run off. If not, a taser will work. Unless the dog is out for blood and the other things do not work, then you use your firearm as a last resort. There is no reason that the officer’s first instinct should be to shoot the dog. I’ve been attacked by dogs twice while on the job and my ASP was all I needed to defend myself. This all boils down to piss poor training by the department and the officer not keeping his head about him.

I have faith in the system again! Finally! I am sorry that a life was lost, but the evidence that the young man attacked Zimmerman was overwhelming. Get ready for the riots. Do I want to see that? Of course not. But social media is full of people saying they want to kill the first white person they see. Stay safe everyone!
I still don't see the logic of people that just thought it was impossible that he was telling the truth, like he had to prove he wasn't lying when the opposite is the way things work.
Wow!!! Thank you Jesus!
Yes, Thank you Jesus and Amen. Thank you to all who prayed. We are America!
zimmerman and trayvon are idiots - move on

I watched this movie on opening night. I didn’t like the ending too much, but it was OK. Having no idea about the director’s comments at all before seeing it, I actually came out thinking it was an anti-liberal movie. Reason being: The New Founding Fathers in the movie is a new set of people who were elected who are reveared in a cult-like manner, it seems. They are the ones who establish this “Purge” concept. Why I believe they were Liberals was because the only people who have a problem with the current Founding Fathers are left-wing Libs. Conservatives love our country and our Founding Fathers and treat life as a precioius thing to be loved and protected. In this movie, there is a 12 hour window where you can commit all this crime and kill practically anyone you want.
Another aspect is in the movie, the people who wanted to (felt they had to) show support for this Purge had to buy and display blue flowers in front of their house (obviously blue is more associated with liberals).
But I think the biggest aspect, and not trying to give anything away (sort of), the antagonist is a white college elite who are “well off”. They explain every Purge they find a homeless person to chase and kill because they are “dogs who do not deserve to life and who are beneith us.” Now if that doesnt sound like a liberal I do not know WHAT does.
The ending is pretty good, but it could have been a LOT better. And again, I did not see it as anti-gun. But maybe if I rewatc

NH Winter, Please know what the you are talking about before you open your mouth. Cubans are not coming here to spread Communism! 95% of Cubans living in the US are REPUBLICAN! I should know I live here in Miami (though I’m a redneck from the Midwest) with a Cuban fiancee and close to a lot of her relatives. Most Cubans came here fleeing the very thing you are accusing them of spreading! My father-in-law was a political prisoner of Castro because he stood up.
The night of the election not one person was in a good mood. Most Cubans can’t believe what they are seeing. Half of the population of their adopted country are voting themselves slowly into Socialism/Communism and all most of the Cubans want to do is fight it. They’ve been there, they seen what is coming. They do not want to go back to ration cards where it is illegal to own/eat red meat (you were thrown in JAIL if you were caught), where you cannot have more than 6 eggs a month and more than half a glass of milk a day for kids and NONE after 6 years old.
Get over yourself!

If Egypt issued arrest warrants for anyone who says/does anything that would go against Islam I think half of America would be on that list. And the penalty includes death? Tolerance my ass!

Ouch. Being from Missouri (now living in Miami, Florida) I have to say I’m quite ashamed of this guy. The people in Missouri are pretty level headed for the most part. Every state has their wackos, it just seems bad luck that the light has came down on this particular nut job. I’ll be calling my friends and family in Missouri to make sure they do not vote for this guy and tell them what he has been saying.

I just seen that last week. Awesome movie. Some of those SEALs can really act. Deploy a SEAL Team to the border with orders to shoot anyone with *weapons* entering the country illegally. See how quickly our boarder would be secured.

Yes, the doctors are correct. The mental disorder in adults is now called “Good Behavior”. It’s exceedingly rare in the common adult today. It includes saying ‘Thank you’, ‘Yes Ma’am‘ or ’No Ma‘am’, ‘Yes sir’ or ‘No sir’, and the word ‘Please’. It even goes so far as to compel most adult males into holding a door open for females, even when the males do not get anything in return! This disturbing disorder is also responsible for random people greeting each other in a friendly manner, as well as a general happiness to your fellow man.
The scientists who brought you this study (not to mention those in major US universities and government positions) are worried that this disease might spread! It is up to all of us to stop using appropriate physical discipline with our children or this mental disorder might spread to all of America, maybe even the world! Act Now!

Seriously? You guys are complaining about cops actually having a vehicle that can not be shot up by a high powered rifle so they can get close to the suspect? Do you want them to try to get close in an open-air jeep? On foot? No vest? It sounds like you just would rather see cops be killed in a “fair” fight. Hell no. You number one job out on the streets is to get back home to your family. The cops had an advantage of an APC (quit calling it a tank) that they can safely move close. If it keeps ME from getting killed, I’ll take it. And please tell me, if your in a firefight with someone who has an automatic weapon, do you want to go in with a .22 revolver? Or do you want to go in with something at least as large a caliber as the suspect’s? It’s common sense people. If you want to see what happens in that situation, go look up the bank robbery in North Hollywood that happened in the mid to late ’90s. Two suspects with body armor and fully automatic weapons against cops with revolvers and the body armor too light to matter against the suspect’s weapons. Just think how that wouldn’t have happened if the police could have responded in kind early on.
Please stop thinking as cops as part of a “police state”. That just shows you how dumb you are. As a cop, I can tell you that is completely opposite of what is true. Please, I beg you, read a little. Talk to people instead of holding up in your room sitting at your computer all the time.
No most of us don't want to see you underarmed. You however must acknowledge that it wouldn't take too much modification to turn it into a military weapon. Its how police states are born. The call and order comes from the top.Its not you the individual we fear. Its how those at the top will use and abuse their authority and force you into complicity.Frankly from your post I highly doubt you would go along with something like that. You'd quit the police force and expose them. How many others though wouldn't?

Seriously? You guys are complaining about cops actually having a vehicle that can not be shot up by a high powered rifle so they can get close to the suspect?
Happens all the time:
Thank you for your service. I wish mayors and city councils did more to support our LEO's
Great you are a good cop. You might be one of those type cops that will not follow through on gun confiscation and other unconstitutional things. The problem is there are a ton of cops armed to the teeth that are not like that.
I am sure you would be a lot more careful when raiding a house if you knew that citizen could have a machine gun, or 50 cal. sniper rifle, or for the police depts. with tanks a RPG. Its not to kill police for me, its for me to protect myself from cops that arent maybe like you.
Just remember, it took the cops in the Hollywood shooting case going down the street and getting high powered rifles from a gun store to stop them. Granted, they could have possibly taking them out with a shotgun loaded with slugs ( foot shoot, or gaps in the armor) but that would require exposing yourself long enough to aim and shoot.
Hades, Get your facts straight about "The Bank of America heist" that you are talking about. The two assailants that committed this crime were apprehended six months prior for possesion of automatic weapons and explosives. They were released and were given these full automatic weapons back . In California, of all places ,were the regular citizen can't own handguns or Semi auto rifles but a criminal is returned there weapons, that are illegal in all fifty states, back. Then put this plus the fact they used armor piercing rounds, also illegal in all 50. Then the private gunstore owner who armed the police out of his store to help them. Then the millions the city had to pay out because of the three officers that kept paramedics away from one of the assailants that was ,rightfully, shot twelve times .After he was cuffed and on the ground they let him lie on the ground and bleed out. Is that the example you are giving? I hope not. Don't get me wrong I support law enforcement, But sometimes before all the facts are out ,people make assumptions about things that are completely off .

This is how it starts. This is how the left will try to “win” (steal) America. This Brett guy needs to be put in his place.
This man has now done the SWATing to several people, and now he has courts standing behind him to silence anyone highlighting the truth about him. This is insanity. And as someone else said, this is how it starts. The left has turned into a bunch of vile brown shirted useful idiots. Look at Meghan McCain and her whining over being supposedly "bullied"--or as those of us in the real world like to call it, calling her out on her b.s. remarks.
as long as it is a permanent place where he will finally do some good and feed the worms.
@Hades: No this is not the start, this is how they wage the end game. We now are in the end of their power play and it will be winner takes all - freedom or slavery under a dictator known as Obama.

Citizens, it is time we stand up for the rights of those who might not be able to stand up for themselves. We must come together as one voice and demand that our children are educated in an environment that promotes BOTH sides of an argument, and do not bully or suppress the rights or views of any side. I want my children to grow up intelligent, not indoctrinated. We must make sure teachers are held to a high standard, one that is obviously in disuse today judging by the actions of this particular teacher.
Form a group and petition your local school board to help review the textbooks that are brought into the classrooms of our youth. It must start there. Then we can let our voices be heard about the actions of left-wing liberal activist teachers such as this one. If we do not stand up as one, our children will be bullied into believing the only way is the Progressive/Liberal one. I am not advocating for a conservative-only point of view, just equal representation of both sides and teachers who are not pushing their own views or agendas on America’s youth.
If now is not the time, then when? Because time is not something we have a lot of.

Wow, I can’t believe all the people on here who start spouting off that the cops should be fired and put in jail. You guys are idiots. Seriously. You guys do not even know that she wasn’t tased with the leads, but instead was tased with the “Dry Stun” option. It is less painful, less effective, and a lot more “safe”. But it still gives a jolt in a very localized area that… gasp.. DOES NOT SPREAD. The baby was fine. It wasn’t in any danger. She was even in a safe sitting position too! You can’t have it any easier than that. Even the liberal judges said it was fine in that instance. I mean geeze. Please have a bit more knowledge before you start spouting off stuff like that.
Signing does NOT admit guilt, it even says that on the citation. She was an idiot. The cops did the right thing, period.

Wow, so no more apple pie, baseball games, or July 4th celebrations. We are not America anymore. We are the United States of Everyone Else.
Shouldn’t we be promoting ideas and customs that are *traditionally American*??? Isn’t that what has made America great? Yes, some diversity is great. I’m sure most of us have many friends from other races or cultures. But while some diversity is good, creating commercial that does not include the majority of Americans (around 75% +) is misrepresenting the U.S.
This panel should not be made up of 100% left-wing progressives. It should at the very least be bi-partisan and include the Majorty Americans (not just white, if that’s what your mind automaticly went to).

Listen, Commie. The “workers” strength only lies in the fist of the union bosses. The members have no choice in the matter. It is obvious you have never talked to a bottom-rung union member because almost all of them hate the way the unions are run.
But, if your talking about the OWS type of people…. well then that would confuse most of the rest of the United States because I haven’t seen one of those people do anything except complain that everything isn’t free. I guess you could call complaining a job. Or, you could just call them Democrats.
Well, Mr. Armed_Progressive. If you want your violent take over of the U.S. it’s time to step up. Me and the other 250,000,000 of us (those not leftist “Progressives”) who believe in our Constitution are ready to defend it from people like you. If you don’t, crawl back to the little hole you came from and grumble about your student loan payments and how you believe everything isn’t fair and it’s all someone else’s fault and leave the rest of us alone.

Don’t you have a 6 year old’s lemonade stand to close down due to lack of a permit?
Conservatives do not ever think we are above the law, but common sense should always in full force when making the laws of the land. That is obviously not the case in MA. If the ground is covered in nails and the building is being held up by duct-tape.. then yeah it should be closed down. But if he did some painting and fixed a few siding boards that were loose then I do not see a problem. Tell the guy “Hey, I seen that you did this updating. Could you please go pull the permits for the repairs?” More than likely, he would have said “No Problem.” and did it. But he was closed down by armed officials. Happy Mother’s Day indeed…

Wow, talk about accidental honesty! This is one of the most dangerous men in America. We must defend our way of life from people like him.
May 15, 2012 at 5:08pm
Wow, I am kinda shocked at the hate for LEOs here. As an ex-cop myself I know for a fact that most officers are not like the people described above. I have stopped many people in my time and one of the first things I ask is if there are any weapons in the vehicle. If there are, I take possession until the traffic stop is finished, then I hand them back their weapon with a smile (and unloaded of course) and tell them to drive safely. I have never had a problem with anyone carrying a weapon legally. The officers I worked with are really big into 2nd Amendment Rights and would never conduct themselves the way the officer(s) in this article did.
But it is hard trying to keep your job and do that right thing. Sometimes you can’t. When I was working in a small town in Missouri, I was told not to ever stop anyone that was on the City Council, a family member of the City Council, or anyone belonging to the Elks Lodge (yes I’m serious). When the Chief told me this I was dumbfounded. He was scared of losing his job, and I certainly didn’t want to lose mine. But I told him that was unconstitutional and not fair to the other citizens. I was then told my services were no longer required.
I guess my point of all of this is that, there are some bad cops. But there are certainly a lot more cops that will put themselves in harms way both legally and physically for the general public than there are those who will not. Do not say we are all the same. See us individually.
I once had a 1851 colt cap and ball pistol (replica) stolen from me and when it was recovered days later it was stolen again by the San Diego PD, Right out of the Property room. Someone likely thought it was a an original colt. That was the last I time ever trusted the police. and that was in 1978.
So what you are saying is that as a police officer, you would not enforce the law even though that is what a police officer is meant to do.
How were these police officers wrong? They arrested him for AN ILLEGAL ACT. However, because you don’t like the law, you believe the officers were wrong for enforcing it.
You say you never had any problems with people who were legally carrying guns. The problem is that under DC’s laws, this guys was not legally carrying this weapons. That is a big f—n difference.
So, it boils down that you were a bad police officer because you would only enforce the laws you thought were just.
HADES, the authority you were loaned, including carrying your weapon, came from the citizens. That did not result you in having power over the citizen. You had no more rights or authority when you worked as a cop than any citizen has. Too many cops have either forgotten that, or were never taught that fact in their academy.
While it is legitimate and reasonable to want to know about weapons in a vehicle that you stopped, requiring the owner to retrieve that weapon and give it to you caused you and the occupants of the vehicle more risk. Once you know about the weapon and its location, it was more safe to leave it alone. You unloading the owner's weapon, possibly a weapon you were not familiar with, compounded the danger to all involved.
DTOM is an idiot. I bet you are the first to call the police if someone takes your parking spot.
@HADES Thank you for your integrity. I hope your right about "The officers I worked with are really big into 2nd Amendment Rights"; and they uphold there constitutional oath's and that they DISOBEY any unlawful and unconstitutional orders are imposed on the american people.
Why do you need to take their guns during a stop if they are not prohibited to own them & what gives you the right to unload them? Why do you feel the need? See thats a large part of where the distrust comes from. From a human rights point of view you as a LEO have no greater right to be carrying a gun than we do. You say "of course unloaded" as if someone besides a cop cant be trusted to be handed a loaded gun.
Your other excuses dont cut it either. If your chief asks you to do something wrong or illegal you dont need to obey. But instead of standing proud you'ld rather preserve your job & abuse the public that is paying you. I'm not really picking on you, its an industry wide thing. Police bend the rules & look the other way to save their jobs every day. Yet they expect us to hold them up like they are doing us some super service by working as a LEO. Nobody said its easy, but if you are just going to follow orders regardless of the legal or moral implications then you really deserve no more praise than a sanitation worker because you are just putting in time to collect a check, a hero most LEO arent.
These officers in DC violate everyones civil rights every single day as a matter of policy, as do the police in 40+ states. The only ones that dont are AK, VT, WY and maybe a couple more that no longer have any carry restrictions. If you need a permit to carry your rights are being violated & if LEO enforce those laws they are violating your civil rights.
All I can say is that is that the city government & PD are like fish head & fish. The mores & attitudes of elected city politicians are unduly influencing the LEOs. If you have a rotten fish head it will spoil the rest of the fish.
@HADES, get used to the cop hating, the editors at the blaze frequently post anti police stories. Red meat for the dogs. The only time you'll see a sympathetic story about cops is if a cop is killed on duty, and even then alot of posters celebrate. I remember when the female park ranger was murdered in Washington state a few months ago and the blaze put the story up, alot of posters were pretty happy about it.
As for this story, hope the guy gets his guns back. I wouldn't like being a cop in DC because of laws like that but I'm not going to fault them for enforcing the law where they work.
The city council could make walking down the sidewalk while chewing gum illegal. by law the LEOs are required to enforce it regardless if the city council are a bunch hypocritical morons.
The council breaks laws left, right & center.
"You say you never had any problems with people who were legally carrying guns. The problem is that under DC’s laws, this guys was not legally carrying this weapons. That is a big f—n difference."
What is the right way? Triggerlock, clip in separate container in a locked cased intombed in concrete vault the dimensions of Jupiter?
DTOM_JERICHO (CREATOR VINDICATOR), I of course do know what has happened to you but one can only assume that you have done something to get arrested a number of times. Actually I hope that I am wrong. Apparently you may have run afoul of one or more of those cops like the one in Cincinnati that The Blaze ran a couple of stories on in the recent past. I hope they have found a way to get rid of that guy now. I am a former cop too, and I have to say that I have met a number of those types myself, but that is not typical for all cops. As far as the states starting police departments it is essentially blessed by the 10th Amendment.
As for a standing Army and Navy which were activated by the U.S. Constitution established during the Revolutionary War It seems to have slipped the minds of writers of our current Constitution since the Army and Navy were still standing. This has been debated my centuries now and I believe should have been corrected with an Amendment rather than to just let it stand. Frankly, it is a good thing that the military remained when the British again attacked us in 1810. Anyway, back to the debate. Some defer to the fact that the current Constitution did not state that it superseded the war time Constitution. While others say that once ratified it did supersede the considered former Constitution. Tis a mind fick ain't it?
Washington D.C. seems bent on bending people over.
Did you read the article? It said that the gun he was carrying is illegal in DC.
"Among the guns Kim was carrying was a Colt Carbine AR15 rifle – a weapon the District of Columbia considers to be an 'assault weapon' and has banned."
Guess what, if a law makes something illegal it is still the law. A court could later strikes it down or repeal the law but cops are still supposed to enforce it whether they agree with it or not. It is not a police officer's job to decide which laws are constitutional and which laws should be enforced.
The police officer tried to say, that just because he stopped his vehicle and got out, it was the same as living in that state, and having that guns then was illegal. So, if you never stopped his car he would have been fine.
If a police officer asks you to allow them to search you vehicle, just say sorry, but no. I never trust the police, they are more trouble most the time then help. What they don't know about you, won't hurt you.
Hope this guy gets his guns back. They probably can't find them. That cop probably took them home, and doesn't want to give them back.
DC isn't in America but Commie Land
This action make some wonder why the men and women fight for the USA when DC doesn't stand by the 2nd amendment . Hitler did the same thing in Germany and he started the FIRE........
Maybe he should get U.S., Attorney General Holder to represent him. No, wait a minute, he only helps criminals have access to guns - not honest, honorable U.S. citizens. :-/
I'm sorry this fine young man went thru this ordel. While he was deployed he missed all the news on D.C. Those guns can't be returned to him - they were delved out to his Captian and his squad members. The officers in D.C. probabnly have some of the finest collections in the country. I would love to take my 4 grandsons to see the Capital and the Smithsonian but they won't recognize my Carry permit and if they did they would find some excuse to steal my gun. My 3 sons would like to take their families there on vacation but can't for same reasons. Good thing I saw it 35 years ago!
What are you talking about ? Bad cops ?? They enforced the law. The arresting cop doesn't have much to do with it after the arrest is made - and the arrest was legally made.
What about states rights ? Assault weapons bans have never been found to be unconstitutional. The officers found illegal weapons and they enforced the law.
And it doesn't matter that the man was a soldier. The same law applies whether the person is a completely legitimate person or a drug dealer.
Likewise, constitutional protections of search and seizure apply. Had the soldier been more alert, he should have refused consent for a search. A recent case before the D.C. District Court a person who was obviously a drug dealer got a free pass even after the police found a loaded gun and used shells in the car because the dealer asserted his rights and did not give consent to search.
Ken P. - the right to bear arms is not a human right but a constitutional right. Not the same thing.
Bad apples are making it bad for all of you then. It's up to EVERY officer to gain back the public's trust rather than look the other way when one of your own takes a huge dump on an otherwise law abiding citizen. Do you watch the news? A week does not go by when we all see a report of police corruption or their complete disregard for 2nd amendment rights. Here in the People's Socialist State of Kalifornia, if you are not a cop, you are one of the little people. The police are ignorant of the voluminous gun laws of this state. A common man cannot know the complexity of gun law in this state and it is left to lawyers to argue. In this state, they wait for you to step over the line. It is not a matter if you will step over, it is when. They can then not only seize you legally carried guns, but can then seize all guns in your home (they know exactly where all the guns are due to mandatory registration).
My ex neighbor reported that I had military style grenades (I had grenade crates that I use for storage). The police department then proceeded to check my gun registration records and noticed I owned several guns (most inherited rifles and shotguns). I received a visit from the SWAT team just before 5:00 am and all guns seized during the search for the non-existent grenades. I had to pay a fee to get all of my weapons back (almost $1700). Our LEO leadership in this state hates gun owners and they take every opportunity to express that hate.
Thank you for your patriotic service. I agree with you. There are bad people everywhere. I thank God everyday that we outnumber them.
You are shocked by the fact that so many people hate cops,,what planet have you been living on?
I think the misunderstanding here is that the cops did there job and did it lawfully; it's that DC is a cesspit full of corrupt lawmakers who care nothing for the freedoms the Constitution is supposed to grant us.
Constitutional Liberty??? What's that?
I disagree with your assessment that the right to bear arms is not a human right. The most basic natural right that God gave us is the right to our life. The right to defend and preserve our own lives is implicit in the natural right to life. The Founding Fathers understood that and considered the Second Amendment a natural and inalienable right.
Jefferson wrote "No man has a natural right to commit aggression on the equal rights of another; and this is ALL (emphasis mine) from which the laws ought to refrain him".
The Second Amendment - Right to Bear Arms.
"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be INFRINGED."
This is MY RIGHT to OWN and to BEAR ARMS PERIOD!!!!
Where I live, they dont bother to ask because more than half of the population in my county has a PCC and the ones who dont can still legally carry a fully loaded gun in an unlocked glove compartment. Asking someone here if there is a firearem in the vehicle is like asking if they have a motor in the vehicle.
I am guessing half the people here would laugh at you if you asked for their gun for a traffic stop and a lawyer would file a suit against your department the next day for violation of your rights. Here's a fact you seem to forget, most law abiding citizen legally carrying a gun will say yes they have a firearm in the vehicle and those are not the ones you need to fear! The ones who deny it and you walk away clueless are the ones who will use it on you!
So asking for and taking the gun of law abiding citizens for a traffic stop is not only dangerous as it could go off reaching for it while someone is already nervous for a traffic stop, it is plain stupid!
Whenever you start leaving your weapon unloaded in the back seat of my car while we are both standing in positions of equal power, then I'll believe a single word you say. As of right now, police are just an extension of an unconstitutional and right depriving bureaucracy and they should all take a good long look at what they are and how they can either change or get a new and productive profession.
@Godfather, you sir, are a freaking moron! It is not illegal to travel through ANY STATE OR DISTRICT with ANY FIREARM! First off, it is a right that we have as human beings to provide our own safety and security. Personally, I'd have rather shot the pig and spent my life in prison than to have my rights violated by him. But I digress. Furthermore, it is a national LAW that you may transport a weapon through any state regardless of the "legality" of said firearm in the state through which you are passing. This law was passed through Congress and signed by the President some decades ago.
When will ignorant morons like yourself wake up and stop eating the crap cakes that the media is feeding you?
@ Cmonnow, if I could find you, I'd put a bullet between your eyes for even suggesting that I do not have a human right to self defense, to use my own intellect, and the access to free trade. You sir, are an enemy of myself, this nation, and of Liberty. You should die a traitors death and your body should be drug through the street for all to see and learn from.
....Was that a little too harsh? I really don't give a damn because it is how I think.
You are absolutely correct! Most officers are our best advocates in time of need. I also have a big question for the DCPD. While it is illegal to own some firearms in DC, this man is not a DC resident, & inner-state transportation laws between counties applies. Beyond that, he was provably transporting firearms between states, which requires federal firearms transportation laws to usurp every municipality between point A and point B. For those that do not understand this, imagine being pulled over in a town on your way to a place outside your state, and your insurance company does not do business in that state; this is common by the way. The individual cannot be convicted of having inappropriate or no insurance; they are neither a resident of that state or the municipality.
Not only did this fine young man NOT break the law, DCPD has now committed a federal crime by not returning his property. They have impaired his 2nd amendment rights grievously in the delay tactics alone. DCPD neither followed the letter nor the color of law.
Thank you for the time you devoted in protecting us citizenry. We can be a handful sometimes!
VET's beware check your local and Federal laws before you claim you have PTSD.
I am a former D.C. police officer. I only know what I'm reading here, but if this is the true story, it seems like the officers were fishing for something. I never had much time to mess with traffic, as I drove from one crime scene to another. When I did make a traffic stop, I never asked about weapons in the vehicle unless I had probable cause. I always looked around inside the vehicle, and asked the driver to put both hands on the steering wheel until I was sure it was reasonably safe. I never asked anyone to let me search their vehicle unless I had reasonable suspecion to believe they had something illegal. If the driver is placed under arrest, then a vehicle must be inventoried. On the other hand, there's all kinds of officers out there...most are reasonable and professional. A few are not. People have a federal right to transport guns from one place of storage to another, and it seems that that officer was being a little too eager to make something out of it. I can't believe the soldier appeared to be a threat to anyone, especially after he told them who he was. Common sense seemed to be short, here.
Are you aware Veterans are on Homeland Securities watch list.
All you guys who are attacking hades for taking temporary possession of someones guns obviously have no experience in any kind of law enforcement... Hello, turn on tru tv for 20 minutes on one of their world's dumbest episodes and you'll see that performing a traffic stop is one of the most dangerous things a cop can do, I would rather take and return a gun from someone than have them shoot at me an my way back from my patrol vehicle
He was transporting his guns and took every precaution he could. It's illegal to own a certain gun if you're a resident of DC. He's not a resident of even that state (Maryland) but is a resident of South Carolina. He should fall under the laws of South Carolina unless he had it sitting on the seat beside him which could be intent to use.
Why even ask? If you stopped me and asked that entirely personal question and I replied that I was not carrying any illegal contraband and was in compliance with all State and Federal laws, would you just let it go? Would you pester me further? Would you make some excuse to detain me (the ol' standard "I smelled alcohol/marijuana/etc")? Would you call for back-up? Call the dog out and have its handler touch the MJ in his pocket then touch my vehicle so the dog "hits" on the trunk?
Why the "hate" for cops? I dunno, could it be that most of you are no longer peace officers and instead are Revenuers for the State? Collecting taxes in the way of speed traps and such? And when crime does strike, you're too scared to act on it especially if the perp was a city councilman or family member or heaven forbid a member of a protected class (blacks, gays, etc)?
Tell me, did YOU have the integrity to resign when your chickensh*t boss told you to ignore crimes committed by the City Council? If not, you have NO RIGHT to ask why most ordinary folks hate cops. You just answered your own question.
Never been arrested for anything... yet. Though that's an ad hominem attack and an admission of defeat. I asked for the provision, not your opinion. I did not ask for an amendment that you think should have been added. Wow, what sound reasoning that you would think to talk of an amendment that SHOULD be added and not realize that you are saying cops are unconstitutional by that very fact that it has not been added. Rest easy little sheep. Theblaze has removed the comment and free speech. Truth has no agenda? Only if it doesn't prove Beck wrong.
Apparently there must have been some nice weapons in the collection..... I am sure that they took the guns so that they could make off with them..... They don't return the guns because they are in the officer's home!!!
GDfather you are a jac k a$$.....
The sign by Chuck Norris's mail box says it all:
"We don't call 911"
Too many laws,
Too many cops,
Not enough Constitution,
Not enough Citizens.
Hades, its not LEO hate its stupidity hate. They have NO right to keep those weapons with no charges pending. Unfortunately, stupidity is seen rampant in the police and their actions.
HADES, from what I've seen, too many cops don't appear to be trained in the technique of de-escalating a situation. Because of the perceived authority provided by the badge and gun they carry, many times will antagonize and bully a suspect and therefore create a much larger problem. The Kelly Thomas case in Fullertton! CA is a perfect example. I'm a 21+ years Army Veteran who was brought up to respect LEO's. I have never been arrested or been in trouble with the law. In the military we were taught that when dealing with civilians in a combat zone you ALWAYS try to de escalate the situation and never provoke. I have to think that LEO's are taught the same. Sit down and watch a couple of episodes of COPS. You'll see example after example of cops pushing their weight around and antagonizing citizens.
You may be individuals, but when I look at you, I don't see Jim, Fred or Susan, I see a cop.
You are an oxy moron. You say you don't understand why people don't trust, like, believe cops then you provide your own story of how you were asked to break the law and NOT serve the people who hired you?
In my 46 years I have never once had a cop help me. I even went so far as to gather all the evidence required, pictures, testimony and invoces of a guy who stole more than 2000 dollars from me BECAUSE the cops didn't give a crap. Even after I did all the work, handed them the evidence and told them where the guy was right at that minute WITH the stolen property, they still didn't give a crap and did nothing. The only other encounters with cops were a few 1 mph over speed limit speeding tickets at 4 am and the cop went ballistic on me because I had the "nerve" to ask him why he pulled me over. EVERY cop I have ever known was an ego maniac on a power trip, or a short man trying to make up for it. So the only thing you did with your story is prove how dumb cops really are.
Apparently you don't live in large metropolitan area. Cops there do not respect peoples rights. You sir are not the norm. I live in a rural state and will never travel to a large liberal city ever again. I also will never surrender my right to bear arms to a public sector hack. I could care less about what kind of 'badge' they wear on their chest. The Right to Bear Arms shall not be infriged for ANY REASON!
Check your facts, The constitution originally called for a standing Navy and a Militia which was the equivalent to a reserve. There was no call for a "standing " army. Other than that I agree with your post.
Hades, I agree with your overall point that most cops are decent and good people. The problem as I see it is that they are forced by a system that isn't decent and good to do things that aren't in any way to the benefit of the citizen or to society. The unbelievable mountain of ridiculous laws they are tasked with enforcing make it nearly impossible for them to do their jobs from the governments perspective without unduly burdening citizens. It's a shame really. I remember when cops really were the "good guys". I don't see it that way anymore and haven't for a long, long time. To do a good job from the government point of view the individual cop must overburden the citizen or they will languish at the lowest ranks or be let go. Peace.
Thank God I live in Arizona
Yeah, right. You never "worked" with New Jersey cops. Those brain dead idiots are cloned Nazis.
You write, " sometimes it's hard to do what's right & keep your job". Isn't that what every civilian cop in Nazi occupied Europe said as they shoved the Jews & others into the box cars ? You brain dead dopey cop !
Quota and revenue goals need to be abolished much like a public defender who gets the bragging rights for convictions and not saves.
when did Law Enforce Officers stop swearing an oath to the constitution? which is the supreme law of the land. its to the constitution not the mayor or city hall, govenor or the chief of police.the legilators swear the same oath and violate it almost every day.I thank the anunoky that the people of this country are civil law abideing citizens, well most are .when I was 15 a cop told me he was the law,I told him he was law enforcement.and if you were the law we're a lawless land. he snareld at me and walked away.
I am a reserve deputy in NC, and most if not all the officers I work with are of the same mindset as you [me included] If I don't have something to arrest the subject on, the weapons are returned, unless the suspect has a sketchy record or is committing a crime. Then it becomes a chargeable offense. Common sense seems uncommonly absent in some jurisdictions [like NYC or DC]. I'm glad for your integrity you no longer work in the little town you referenced. And you don't have to be worried about being called to federal court to explain unequal application of the law.
Where in the Second Amendment does it say that a police officer is entitled to strip you of your right to keep and bear arms during a traffic stop for his comfort? We are not here for your comfort. Would you have had the audacity to try to take someone's firearms in their home while talking to them at their front door? I don't owe you anything in the way of "courtesy" on this matter, because it's not courteous to try to disarm a citizens, it's unconstitutional. If you are not willing to do your job amongst citizens who have the right to keep and bear arms, then you should find another occupation. I am sick of your attitude.
This article is not critical of the officers on the street just trying to do their jobs.
This is about the bureaucrats that are steeling our freedom.
I agree there are Cops on the street that thinks their opinion and sense of total power trumps the laws there are sworn to uphold.
However it is my experience that this is not the norm among my local LEO.
(I have not had the courage to open carry in Minneapolis though.)Their Police seem to be totally indoctrinated in PC.
Maybe if D.C would allow lawfully licensed citizens to defend themselves by carrying a weapon, there would be a few less murders in our nation’s capitol.
I have had a Minnesota carry permit (Thank you Tim Pawlenty) for 6 years and have carried canceled almost every day.
I have been open carrying in my home state of for the last couple of months.
I am surprised at the lack of response from people I interact with and the businesses that I visit.
An armed society is a polite society.
Most police are just trying to do a tough job which has the potential highest price one can pay. Yes there are some bad apples but that's not what happened here. It's the system and the people running the system, i.e. politicians. Progressives have had it in for gun owners for a loong time, and their friggin laws are the means to burden the taxpayers into submission.
Hello again, as I have told you before I locked the last lock on my trailer and now I could go on my way. Just one more qustion ser ( do you have any guns with you ) I said Yes I think I do have a gun with me packed away under the seat, then the words came out ( You are under arest ) I had been hunting in December 6 months ago in AZ, and did not think about having a gun with me until they had asked about it, got arested and put in jail, my rig put into inpond, talk to police about the 2nd amendment rights, tell it to the court, about 6 or 8 hours later, I got to see the court first hand, my court appointed guy told me to keep quiet and he will get me out of this for $1000.00 dollars. I did at frist and then I could see where all this is going. My I say something your honor, I told the story everything and got releast to myself if I could send them a statment from my home town showing that I do have a home in Arizona. From a policeman just before we got on the way to jail, he told me the next time you are asked the ???? ( do you have a gun ) ( just say no ) . I had no idea about the trouble
I could get into by just telling the truth. (The truth shall set you free ) . Have a wonderful day and year !!! Remenber to work hard, the country full of dead bet;s is counting on you.
